Here's a good example of double thumbing in a song.
if i even had a smidge of his talent i'd be happy, les is a true god. i can just about slap but dont use it much, i think one song in our set uses it though there is a lenny kravitz song we are learning that uses it too, i cant tap for toffee and definately don't need to but that along with soloing would be nice even just for the show off bit during the band intro at the end of our set, drummer gets introduced and goes nuts, lead gets introduced and goes crazy i get introduced and just keep playing the same bass line i was playing through the other 2 solos, classy so yeah i cant solo either and my music theory is sketchy at best, wish i had more time to practice

bigger crowds seem easier due to individuals dissappearing and generally for a big crowd we've been on a stage so theres that seperation, small pub gigs where you are on the same level and theres only a few in are hard as you can see every reaction/shake of the head/face palm etc though our biggest crowd was only 175-200 in a hall that could easily hold 500 but due to fire regs we were limited (not saying that we would have pulled 500 in btw)
1972 - aged 15, very first paid gig for me (with an Irish Country band). My £4.00 wages were given to me in a little brown envelope. Dartford Social Club, a place in my heart. Actually, there were quite a few clubs in little old Dartford back then. WMC's, Conservative clubs, Irish clubs, all there with a selection of live music pubs in the area as well. You could go on month long tours around Dartford without playing the same sh*te hole twice...lol...
its sure as hell not like that anymore, most places have closed, kind of suprised the social is still open to be honest

Cover versions - do you ask permission?
lowhand_mike replied to redstriper's topic in General Discussion
think this topic would be good to have links to the relevant bodies to contact to get the rights to recording and playing covers, thats if anyone knows what they are and make it a sticky -
if its the one near the police station it has one of the smallest stages i have ever seen, we've played there a couple of times and audiences can vary, depends on whats playing on the tvs in the main bar. the room isnt huge but not small either. but then that was a few years ago so i dont know what its like now
A bunch of footballers and myself who were bedroom musicians at the time, played an awful version of Browned Eyed Girl at our presentation night a few years ago just for a laugh. I uploaded the video to YouTube a couple of days later just so people could relive the moment, but within a few hours of doing so, I received an email from Van Morrison's management stating that they will take legal action if I did not remove it immediately.
maybe that was why, misrepresentation -
cant say i get it either, that dangelo stuff was awful, just sounded like they were trying to be clever, but sounding like fools (maybe its a tastte thing), one thing i was wondering after trawling through all this is how do you know whos in front and whos behind? if the drummer is laying back on the beat could it be that the bass player is infront instead? i think i get it in solo areas but in the overall rythmn of the song its just a feel and not really being infront or behind, but then ive come to this late and maybe havent grasped whats been said properly, maybe i already do this without noticing or maybe i'm not a pro

whiter shade of pale, only played it a few times great way of killing a vibe at a gig
-
i wouldnt say we play intentionally loud, we adjust to the room but i agree that sometimes the venue doesnt really consider what they are booking, and even some ignore what the punters think i dream of double figures but thats for a different topic

used my ashdown 210 combo for a few years with no real issues, i did run it on its side for better whatsit and quite often got complements on my tone, have now however moved to a 4x10 cos you can never have too much

not bad for the money
-
the sound clips i've heard of the rebop are slightly mid rich , bit of growl and loads of bite, ive always like the tone of some warwicks but cant afford them at all and the rebop seems similar to them, and i like the tone of the bass on crytopsy and between the buried and me (though thats his signiture bass) so anything close would be good. I like my ibanez but its a little bit tame and i want a grown up bass

protein, oils and fibre

try Elixirs, they stay good for yonks and the micro coating stops any corrosion, very highly recommended though they are not cheap they should outlast 2-3 sets of normal strings

its pain but they pay the money we played our CIU club and they strangely decisded to put us in the bar area (quite big area but low ceiling), they had the members of another club over for their yearly visit so it was quite packed, the bar manager asked us to turn down as he was getting complaints from a flat across the road, well 2 roads and a small river! we duely did and shortly after he cam over again and asked us to turn down which we did and the third time he asked us to stop. everyone in the bar was into it and a bit miffed, we later found out there had been no phone calls about noise and it was just him who didnt like it, no concern for anyone else. Tw@t

i predict a riot is fun to play, involves a nice range of the neck Keep on running, nice fun bassline Feel like making love, we funk it up a little in the break out parts and have an extended outro/solo part that i get to have a bit of a (limited) noodle over
-
tbh just be greatful you are getting gigs, our band find it hard to get regular gigs which usually equates to about 4 or 5 a year!!, we practice mainly for fun but doing gigs is the ultimate goal so we'd be happy just to crack the pub circuit. we alos try to have a mix of classics and new stuff to please as many as possible, and yeah reign in the guitarists odd choices as said above

not really a fan of the subscription package and so far my agency has only got CC where needed and the rest is running CS6, firm beleiver of if you pay for apackage you should own it, i'd rather buy cds too, spotify has been handy in finding new bands on occasion but i use itunes or listen to planet rock. was hope the subscription line would be a fad but guess not
I jumped at the amazingly low price for the ReBop on Thomann a few weeks ago and haven't regretted it - saved around £250 on the cheapest UK price for this bass! But I have a sneaking feeling that Spector are discontinuing the ReBop 5 DLX; as their website now only shows the MM version? By the way - my ReBop appears to be fitted with EMG DC active pickups rather than the HZ passive pickups listed in the spec for this bass. Anyway - this is my first 5-string after 30+ years as a dedicated 4-stringer (or so I thought). My most played 4-string bass is an Ibanez SR600 - noted for its incredibly slim neck, but I have had no problems adjusting to the neck on the ReBop - in fact I'm playing a full gig with it tonight. Perhaps it is a little neck-heavy - but I've played basses that have a lot worse neck-dive than this (my Westone Thunder III for example) and it's easily managed by using a suede-backed strap.
nice one, exactly my thoughts which one did you go for? the gloss or matt? and need to see pictures

When you get compliments on your playing
lowhand_mike replied to anaxcrosswords's topic in General Discussion
in a similar boat, i find it hard to take compliments, but they are nice when they occasionally do appear
