my +1 for the ashdown 210 combo, its done me right for nearly 2 years now and is fine for most gigs, the DI i great for larger venues to go through the PA. the prices for them have gone up a bit but it does now have the compressor on board. but like is always said your really need to try them both if you can.
Victor Wooten 50% Jaco Pastorius 42% Micheal "Flea" Balzary 33% John Myung 25% Pete Wentz 0%
same people on my list slightly different order, had mr wooten, who i am nothing like at all. hmmm tbh no idea who i am like playing wise, and thats really helpful.

when i went into the drum center a few months back they were very helpful, especially considering neither of us were drummers and we were after some cymbals. bass cellar will probably never change, though i have said before the one over the street, think is rockers or regents was pretty ok.

did a quick search and it come up as a Jackson KBX bass, which from the info i can find is made in japan http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...ackson/KBX/10/1

tbh all this is of little relevance to me, while i totally respect alex and BFM and their knowledge in my real terms it means this turn it up if it sounds sh*t turn it down adjust eq turn it up does it sounds sh*t? repeat if necessary. -
tough one, as my top 3 would probably involve 6 players hmm i guess Les Claypool - Primus/Sausage/Holymackerel Billy Gould - Faith no More Duck Dunn - Various in the wings though Trevor Dunn, Zender, Duff, Ox, Flea

yep never get sick of seeing those vids. i've tried emulating that sound a few times and really want to learn that whole song but haven't had the substantial time required to do it. regarding the tone i found almost slapping the strings down onto the fretboard with your fingers works quite well, rather than the normal "brushing" of your finger across the tops of the strings for standard finger style. so laid back playing that its annoying
Ha ha I didn't think you'd take me seriously. I'm just a rank amateur, however I caught the moment just before he disappeared. (shark musta knocked over the music stand)
lol actually i like that one better, and its probably a more effective way of getting rid of the camera man
cheers guys, I realise i'm in danger of raving a bit too much about it but to be honest i'm really impressed with it and chuffed to bits i got it.Its a joy to play and although i hav'nt heard it my rig yet it sounds great through the roland DB500. The action is spot on,its intonated perfectly, the neck and body finish are both pefect.Ive looked for shortcomings and i'm being very picky when i say the tuners feel a little bit gritty and i'll prolly upgrade the bridge sometime, apart from there just arent any...at all. Unless ive been very lucky with this particular bass there are worse ways to spend sub £300 on a bass.I should also point out that 60 odd quid of the £285 was delivery costs. Highly recomended.
got to say that looks awesome. does it sound as good as the one on the web vids? for that money i would be tempted to take the plunge for one. so the actual price was just £225 then. bargin
Whoa! The guy's a beginner, give him a break. Doesn't anyone remember how sore your fingers could get when you were starting out, let alone with an injury.
+1 does it hurt immediately or after a while of playing? to be honest it shouldn't still hurt after 6 months but what you might be feeling is the normal pain you get in the tips of your fingers from the strings. could be you use that finger more than the others.

spector rebop, some really nice choice of finishes too within your budget, (i've got the urge for one just not the funds )
+1, but I don’t mean that in a bad or derogative kind of way because I love Fenders and I love to think that I’m Johnny Greenwood when I’m rocking the sh*t out of my Telecaster I’ve also been looking at buying a nice Jazz for ages…but if we’re talking about the look of the instrument suiting the genre, then I can’t work out why Warwicks are popular in Metal. I think there is a case of people buying what their idols use and that has kind of exaggerated the use of Warwicks in the Metal genre, who knows? For me though, I find the look of Warwicks to be far too passive for the whole “Metal” image. In my head they suit Funk and R’n’B and a lot of Rock stuff, but I struggle to make it make aesthetical sense (Streamers specifically) for Metal. Thumbs can pull it off a lot better though. The Vampyre, Stryker, and Buzzard basses are more 'Metal', but they're too ‘comic book’ for the price tag IMO. I think Josh summed up the Warwick and Metal thing, being that it’s mostly down to cutting through the mix as well as the classic Warwick tone being great for the genre.
yeah agree its totally about cutting through. been listening to the early Extreme stuf and particularly the Pornograffitti album, pat uses a warwick on there and you can clearly hear the nasal tone of his warwick cutting through Nuno's guitar, which it needs to do as the guitar is quite over powering
Slap IMHO as well, really, what muppet thinks that a pick sounds like slap, really. Timmy C is a great player, and I want his tone lol Zach
his tone i used to have, pretty simple, sting ray 2band natural with maple neck maple fret board, with little else, thoug he has changed basses now i think. but i'm pretty sure thats what he was using on the original record.
I liked Nick Fyffe, and there's a great story about the circumstances under which he joined the band.
yah, heard this on the ashdown channel thingy. was actually trying to get an audition with a jamiroquia cover band at the time but they messed him around and through a friend of his got the audition with the real band and got the job. then later got a call from the cover band for said audition at which point nick told the guy from the cover band that he had got the gig with the real macoy at which point the cover guy hung up on him, lol

Replacement speaker for an Ashdown ABM 500
lowhand_mike replied to hookys6stringbass's topic in Amps and Cabs
been thinking about this as well with my c210 300 combo. i did want another cab but then thought i could get better drivers and lower impedence so run the full 300w through the 2 drivers. but thats as far as my brain would go on that one as you then need to match the drivers to the box duh? -
glad i'm not the only one to find that pic bugging me. i always thought over winding was a bad idea so my strings never over lap.
You sure you mean tactile? When I'm about to tell someone they're a sh*t musician, I normally don't touch them first - and try to stay out of belting distance.
well im sure i mean it in the sense of what it means in my head, and yeah i dont think it was far off him taking a swing, fortunately i was out of belting distance there is talk of him going back onto guitar and backing vocals though he doesnt seem too happy about it, says "it's too late for that", i think he means he's getting too old to start changing which sounds a bit like a cop out. we are going to change the set and how the singing is done, some that are in his range and others that arent will be delt with by the lead and drummer (hopefully)
