cheers guys couple of things i havent mentioned, they may not be that relevent. but as soon as we started saying he needed to buck up his ideas, practice not sat down/ ditch the cheat sheets/ concentrate etc he obviously got sh*tty and went one the offensive. now one thing that does eat into our setup time and thus sound check is the lead guitarist having to set up the PA, which stresses him out and then that slowly filters out to the rest of us. so we need to get a stage box and loom built (whatever they are) and that seems like the first thing on the list for next week along with going over the set list and general stuff that we should eb doing, ie i mean starting to be a bit more professional about it all. practices have become sloppy, so much time is pent setting up the vocals each week, part of which is geting all the wires and crap from the PA right. sp yeah i guess our next meet up will be the action plan like chris said. i've got some appoligising to do with the drummer as he is still not speaking to me and we were good mates. i still want to record our practices so we can hear where its not right but to do that the PA needs to become a plug and play (well nearly) bit of kit so we dont loose and hour ish getting that right. the hard thing is saying all this without it sounding like we are finger pointing, and everyone accepting that if WE cant give/take critisim from our band mates then it will be even harder from other people. if i am playing sh*t i EXPECT to be told that by them. Its weird it is almost as if we are starting from scratch again and i don't know these guys. i'll keep you posted on this and thanks again for all the advice and stuff, sometime wish my band was as cool as this place (god that sounds sad:P )
Bullet In The Head by Rage Against The Machine and Killing In The Name by Rage again lol. I'm working on take the power back, but its giving me trouble lol. Zach
rage has some great lines, Take the power back is actually pretty simple once you get your head round it and is great to play. drop D, seen alot of people saying play it with a pick but most times i have seen it its slap and thats how it sounds best IMHO. found the muted notes in between the slap parts the tricky bit followed by the pull offs.

working my way through extreme's get the funk out and It's a Monster. both nice lines. struggling with the solo on it's a monster. also pat plays with a pick and i havent used one in anger in a very long time.

ok, resurecting this one as we had a "chat" last week i couldn't make practice due to comuting problems, which didnt go down well, but then neither did the singer, so the other 3 had a chat about it. but are now pissed off with me for not being there (er niether was the singer) any way last night went down to have a proper chat with all of us there and then the guitarist gets a text to say the drummer wont be there. ? good start. we start off being tactile but pretty much immediately he gets sh*tty even though we suggest possible ways of changing and improving. doesnt go down well and he basically says if thats how we feel he'll jack it in, but the guitarists think he should stay in some capacity. bla blah blah, turns out he wasnt the singer in the first place before i joined, and only started singing cos their old one left and he even said last night, 'i'm not a singer'. now seems like we are going to let the lead guitarist do a couple of songs and the drummer (who is a singer) do a couple of songs if he can. though we are still to speak to the drummer and he's not answering my calls at all. now i am on the point of jacking it in after gettting home last night and thinking about it all. the fact that the singer actually said that he's not a singer and add to that we can only do songs in his range which limits us to a certain extent. ok we may get by by using the drummer and guitarist more for lead vocals and he may just get bored and leave. but i'm now not sure. quite possibly the worst meeting i've ever had as i'm not confrontational (to a point) until i blow, and its now left me with the feeling that no matter what we do now it's not going to have that feeling it used to.
Looks the mutt's nuts either way, mate. Rosewood can vary quite alot anyway. Also the lighting in those shots is totally different, so that's not helping either.
they could have easily photoshop'd it to make it look more your style but at least they seem honest. and tis the nature of wood.
Like some have said, you cannot judge an entire repertoire of someone purely on a couple of minutes on YouTube. I've just this week discussed the same argument with my 14 year old niece that "4000" raised. Just because she dislikes something I like, why is it crap? Fine, if someone wants to discuss the merits and pitfalls of something, then do so, but for God's sake do it in the style of adults, not pre-pubescent teenagers.
agreed you can't judge someone on a couple of minutes on youtube. but i like most bits of fret w***ery, and his technical ability was never in question by the op or others me included however the it does sound crap and as such that one clip in no way actually describes what it is intended to do. its a good bassist sounding crap there in lies the funny side. its a bit like those eddie van helen shreds videos, they were made to sound sh*t, this wasn't intentionally made to sound crap it just does. and like you said discuss as adults so in that case keep your cheep shots out of it.
Right, i'll admit i was playing devil's advocate in posting this vid. I sometimes forget that an "ironic" sense of humour doesn't always come across as intended, especially when written. Personally, i think its fair game. He was playing in a public place, the vid was posted publicly on YouTube, and this is a public discussion forum. I knew not everybody would see it the same way, believe me. However, i didn't realise the guy was actually a friend of the forum, and i wouldn't have posted it if i had, so i'm going to take the vid down forthwith. Cheers, Jake M
i think the thing you should think of is if this is an endorsement vid then it does nothing for rotosound. better audio would save the day here if the actual audio was any better. if it was then obviously i'll hold my hands up but on the basis of that vid it just sounds poor. i dont think anyone is denying the technique involved to do that just its a bit ott. i am a big fan of primus and alot of les's stuff is very percussive but it sounds like a bass not the clicky noise there.

never come across that one (oooh er missus) but i occasionally listen to virgin classic rock online and i think they are on DAB too. obviously some class stuff on there with just a few more ads.
Urghhhhh! IMHO That really was horrendous.... clickety clickety click.... low 'E'....clackety clackety clack clack clack... low 'E'.... clickety clickety clack etc What's the point? Not a groove, a melody or a bassline in sight... Didn't make me laugh, but certainly made me sigh and shake my head... that was the sort of thing that must be the bane of any music store owners life...!
exactly i found it funny then painful to watch, bit like the office. yes technically brilliant but other than that, no. may as well not even have plugged in to an amp, sounds like the guitar shop bass w***ery that you get from one of the store assitants who think they can play bass, i've had several do that kind of thing to demonstrate a bass to me and it is pointless to hear what the bass actually sounds like. if he's getting paid to do that then furry muff but it just sounds like a sewing machine.
It comes and goes. Sometimes I can't stand some kinds of music, other times I can appreciate something for its structure (or something along those lines). But all in all, I listen to a lot of music, but there is a lot more music I do not listen to.
+1 i go through phases of not listening to anything to listening to stuff all the time, sometyimes i'll have a cd on or my itunes at work other times i can go for days without listening to a thing. i hate dance music unless i'm in a club (can't remember the last time i was) then its bareable. lost interest in rap after de la soul. love metal and rock. like a bit or proper r&b. bit of jazz. most stuff really apart from the churned out pop crap.

Help? My neck and shoulder is killing me.
lowhand_mike replied to Skinnytwotimes's topic in Bass Guitars
posture for sure helps, i have lower abck probs cos of a bike accident and i am now well aware of posture while playing. but as you are also new to it it will be something your body will get used to just make sure your posture is good and it should happen quicker. i found sit ups and chin ups good for strengthening my core muscles and shoulders which in turn aided in posture and standing playing for 2 hours plus i tend to shift my bass around a bit while playing and have a fairly wide strap. -
Don't get me wrong, I don't think its a good idea to play w***ered, but I find between 4-6 pints means I enjoy myself a hell of a lot more.
i know this i probably wrong in general but... +1 i played my first gig sober recently, and it was the worst i have ever played and thats not me just thinking that it what i was told after wards, ok i wasn't totally sh*te but they did say i had played ALOT better on the other gigs, and i had certainly quaffed my fair share at those. but this recent one i was driving so i had to stay on the water and cola. you could try something like those CALMS tablets if they don't make you too drowsy to take the edge off as you don't drink.

just what i want just when i don't need anymore debt. i'll let the band know though

i remember a mates car years ago had stupid sub in it, such that when it was turned up you could not breath if you sat in the back seat, mental. yeah get us some pics, pretty please with a cherry on top

i always like the jazz/precision specials with the same pickups setup as yours, obviously your picks won't be the standard ones in those basses. nice one must resist getting a precision, but they are growing on me

What are you listening to right now?
lowhand_mike replied to Sarah5string's topic in General Discussion
extreme, pornograffitti forgot just how brilliant this album is (bar the slightly annoying more than words) some great basslines on there too. and nuno's guitar playing is genius. -
Who on Basschat has the most expensive bass?
lowhand_mike replied to Jonny Walker's topic in General Discussion
what kind of f***ing jobs do you lot do and are there any jobs going there jeezus. my most expensive i ever bought was a music man stingray, natural with 2 band eq and the old bridge, the one with the foam pads on. think about 1990 or something, cost me £650, i valued it much higher obviously. i won't go into where it went again. though it doesn't come anywhere near you lot. lucky bar stewards -
i can see the influence of the beatles and the change that paul brought about in bass playing but i agree they dont do much for me. funnily enough i find some of the basslines to the Wham songs really good though the songs themselves, as 80's classics are utter fluff. the one that springs to mind is club tropicana, great line sh*te song.

intriguing indeed
