i had a go at YYZ and strangely i got the first bit, it wasnt the speed that i had an issue with but remembering all the slight differences. I'd love to learn Woodpecker from mars by faith no more but the timing and feel of that track is hard, even billy gould said it was tricky and he wrote it black betty by ram jam, no chance timing too weird for me.

hmm, a subject very close to my heart right now (though not the same make) i have a 2x10, and have been considering a 1x15 to go with it, but recent readings have got me thinking about actually getting another 2x10 or even a 4x10, if you want loads of bass then the 15 would be the way to go or how about 2x12? actually i'm not going to be too much help cos i cant make my mind up. though i think the 1x15 is winning

nice bit of advice, noticed something along those lines on me combo, when you up the bass/mid/treble controls the vu meter goes up too so you have to back off the gain (yeah the vu meter does actually do something )

what BOD2 said was what i wanted to say but my numpty brain couldn't articulate the words correctly. but yeah use your ears and be sensible with the turny knobs

as far as i understand this you would need to go for the higher rated cab. but where the problem of breaking the head or cab comes in is IF you tried to get the full power out of your head into the cab, i.e. turning it up so that it started to clip. but just because you have the ability of the higher cab to handle say 500w doesn't mean i can handle a signal clipping at 350w, think this is due to spikes in the sound which no drivers could handle. i am going to assume you just want the one cab, as you could get round the problem by having 2 8ohm cabs rated at around 300-400 which when used together would drop the ohms to 4 which would give you your full 350w. for example an ashdown abm 2x10 cab is rated at 350 watts but is an 8ohm cab so used on its own it would comfortable handle the 200+ watts your amp would put out at 8ohm, say you added another 2x10 your amp would then be putting out up to 350watts and the cabs would handle that. basically (and please correct me if i am wrong cos i'll be learning something) if you do get a 650watt 4 ohm cab it will work fine so long as you dont crank it to silly settings.

the raised wooden stage certainly wouldn't have helped, particularly for your on stage sound. i have had similar experience when we did a gig a while back where the stage was made out of pallets. it did get a bit boomy (not overly mind) and that was with 2x10s but when i put the amp on the floor it all tightened back up. Also not having alot of time to mess about with the EQ just for you wouldnt help either. but as it sounded nice out front, which is where it matters, i wouldn't knock it so quick.
-
well, yeah ideally thats what we would like to do it's just convincing the guitarist. it was just if there are any experience bits of advice that would help. the other thing i was worrying about is just how much of the low end am i going to loose as the back of the "stage" will be the other 'curtain' on the trailer i suppose one bit of advice would be to not get too drunk and fall off the trailer

Thinking about writing a John Entwistle Book...
lowhand_mike replied to Stuart Clayton's topic in General Discussion
like the sound of this, WGFA, the sheperton version, has had me stumped for ages. We want to play this live but i'd want to know what i was supposed to be doing. could end up being the white pages of entwistle -
i stand corrected, i should have looked first really  and as you say your omni is 4ohm yeah the 15 would overate the amp. but would make sense to keep the amp as a backup.
Personally I am sick of all these I hate..., I dont like... threads that keep coming up. Its not a mature thing to post and hopefully they will grow out of it. If you must promote discussion - say what you like/love.
Well to be honest i can see where the op is coming from. As i often get people saying to me that even though our band is good it a shame i dont get to funk it up a bit more (though i do get told i funk songs up all the time, at least i think thats what they are saying). So alot of people do assume that because you play bass you automatically like funk. This is presumably because most people notice the bass more in funk stuff because it is more forward in the song. So if you are not sure why, even though you play bass, that you dont like funk it shouldn't hurt to ask. I like funk, though i dont play it much and i'd like to play it but purely for selfish reasons as it would give me more to do as alot of funk basslines can be very interesting.

helpful bump or ya, if i hadnt just bought the behringer version i would have had it, i really like the beh one and the compression is pretty transparent on that, certainly more punchy. our drummer was very happy as it punched me through moire so he could hear me better. and for £30 for a boss pedal is a steal. hope that helps
you got power? just taking notice of you sig lol =p i played a gig ouside in a big field with only my hartke A70 against some beefy saxophones and i was heard, i think you'l be alright.
i would hope so, just as long as it isn't just 1 extension lead powering the whole thing, that could be interesting.

i'm in need of a little setup help or recommendations for getting a reasonable sound for an upcoming gig. Firstly we are setting up outside a pub (as the pub is too small to get everyone in) secondly the "stage" we will be on is going to be a curtain side trailer so we are obviously going to be fairly high up. now i only have a 2x10 combo and am a little worried about the bass just disappearing into the air. Would it be wise for me to get my hands on an extension cab of some sort and if so what type, another 2x10, or 4x10, or a 15? There has been talk of the trailer being setup in such a way that we face the outside of the pub, would this help at all? any help on getting a reasonable setup would be great or even how we should go about getting a reasonable sound. we do have quite a good PA but our current desk only has 6 inputs but our guitarist does have a 16 channel desk but he is lothe to use it "cos it's his baby". ok over to you guys who know about these things

would be nice if they did but isnt the mag 1x15 combo narrower than the mag head? then the sleeve that they make would be too wide unless you didnt mind making some fillers for the gaps. and you could always cannibalise the speaker enclosure into a small extension cab.

Laney RB9 head and Peavey cabs going cheap..

and whats the ohmage on the 410? liking the idea of that -
yes ashdown did have some "issues" regarding reliability but they all seem to be sorted now (this was over a year ago) i have had my mag for just over a year with no issues at all and have herd very little in the way of troubles so the same should apply across their range. £119 is a good price for a 100w combo, i would imagine though you only get the 100w when you attach the extension speaker so as it stands you are probably getting around 70w from the combo alone. if i had the spare cash then i would get one as i have been thinking of a small home amp and would definately stick with ashdown.
From what he's saying it shouldn't be any different - it just looks different due to the internal parts. In practise I imagine there will be a slight difference, however I wouldn't like to guess how .
probably right -

ashdown mag 300 head vs ashdown abm 300 head
lowhand_mike replied to Motocross_nick's topic in Amps and Cabs
well just to finish this off just got another email back from martin "It will probably be due to the larger voice coil, so yes the dome will be larger to cover it." that clears that up then. i can sleep at night now. -
these are quite nice and compact http://www.ashdownmusic.com/bass/section.a...ection=practice
Email Ashdown using this form: http://www.ashdownmusic.com/contact/index.asp Link them to this page if you want - I expect Martin will reply to you pretty quickly.
well i gave martin a mail and he came back with "Thanks for your email. The ABM cabinets are fitting with higher wattage speakers to cope with the extra power from the ABm heads." i have sent him another email asking about the dome and surrounds, we'll see if he comes back with a little more detail. -
express music seem to import SX and Jim deacon basses, the SX ones they have are the bass collection type ones but they could get the others i suppose. http://www.lxdb.co.uk/bass-guitars/sx-bass-guitars.php this page shows most of the brands of basses along with dealers websites, very handy.

ashdown mag 300 head vs ashdown abm 300 head
lowhand_mike replied to Motocross_nick's topic in Amps and Cabs
so I see, however, the speakers in my mag 810 were the same as in pic 1.
hmm, kinda see what you mean, weird wouldnt the change in dome size effect the speaker though? and to add confusion all the mags i have seen have the small dome and the abms the large one. i give up i'll give ashdown a shout and see what they say. -
I phoned ashdown re this, they told me there was no difference in the speakers - catagorically! so who was i to argue with the very nice lady on the other end of the phone? I seem to have problems tracking down who makes blueline speakers...I was told it is celestion and that would back up her argument as they are made in China along with the mag stuff but...I did catch a web link that said they were made by an Italian company - cant remember who - got to the website no proof...
hmm, yeah as far as i was aware the speakers were made by an italian company (don't know who though) well here are 2 screen grabs from ashdowns website of the mag and the abm 10" drivers from the 2x10 combos, they certainly look different abm mag
