lowhand_mike replied to partyboy's topic in Effects
haha maybe he likes to go for the lower harmonic of the E and boosts that for the fundemental frequency ;< "its no good if it doesn't make people physically ill"
if only i could find a pedal to make people physically ill, that would be awesome -
ashdown mag 300 head vs ashdown abm 300 head
lowhand_mike replied to Motocross_nick's topic in Amps and Cabs
totally agree with machines, the ABM is probably what you would call the ashdown sound, more classic deep warm tone, the mag is more of an easier tone to get on with and has better highs and mid, so like machine said it seems to punch more. personally i feel the mag is more versatile with basses as it has a more modern sound. Though having not really messed long enough with an ABM i'm sure you could get fairly close to the mag sound. Is it worth the extra cash? i dont think so but then i prefer the sound of the mag. horses for courses oh there is a difference in the drivers used between the mag and abm range of cabs (yeah i know you are looking at the head but...) the abm seem to have a slightly better(?) cone, the outer ring is thicker and the inner voice coil dome is bigger what the exact tech differences are i dont know but both are very decent. -
All the laydeez in da house say yooooooooooo!!

back in the hands of the J, i dont like the smell of P though i have to say i prefer the sound of a j special over both but that isnt an option, so J did i say J?

yeah the needle really only moves with the lower frequencies, not really anything to do with input volume i think, still it looks pretty. i run mine by listening to it and then double checking the meter.
That link is worth following, if only for the name Cedric Waterschoot. I know, I know, it's petty and infantile to laugh at foreigners and their funny names ... but that IS a good one. Also rather taken with a web-site that opens with: From Friday 25th of April until Saturday 3rd of May the complete staff of Hevos is abroad. After the threads about poor service at The Bass Cellar and at Sound Control, at least those shops were open!
isn't that just advertising to crooks and ne'erdowells? yet more stuff for me to gas over but cant have.

played the 115, own the 210. i just prefered the sound out of the 2x10 and its the same width as the seperate cabs, the 115 i narrower so does look a little odd on top of an extension cab. that said the 115 does sound very good and as its a little more compact takes up less space in the house, its mid definition is not as clear as the 210 but then thats to be expected. Personal recommendation would be spend the extra and get the 210 unless of course space and money are a major factor (the 210 is only about another 30 quid more) and then when you want to add an extnsion cab you can. reliability wise they are ace, yeah they had some problems a while back but they appeared to jump on them very quicky and since then most forums i have visited are pretty devoid of ashdown bashing. have a look at this mighty fine review of the 210 version might help you out a bit. bare in mind IIRC that teh rumble does not have a speaker out, so that 100 is through that 1 speaker, the ashdown 180 has a speaker out and you'll only get the 180watts with the extension cab attached. So you'll probably only be pushing 100watts through the built in speaker (but you have the option to go loader later) you could look to the mag series of ashdown (shameless personal choice plug) which are louder (and less blue ) for not much more money. i was considering the rumble when i was looking at amps but the ashdown gave me more longevity so i could upgrade, the rumble as good as it sounds would have to be sold before you upgrade. I used to play laneys years ago and looked at them too, think it might have been the RB3 1x15combo, certainly loud but not overly clean when at high volume so might be pushing it a bit. my recommendation just look at me avatar

i was in a similar situation, 2 guitarists at about 100watts. i went for a 2x10 300watt combo which gives me the basis with which to build on as in adding an extension cab later and the combo gives about 200+watts without the extension. you can pick up a very decent (though not high end) amp for gigging with for around £300 but he really needs to go look around and try some stuff out and see what he likes for his money. second hand you will get more amp for your money but then you take the chance of it lasting, though most of the sales that go on on here are pretty legit and fair.

my personal choice would be to add a 1x15, the 2x10's give you the punch and low-high coverage, the 15 would give extra low end support and more overall projection, solidify your sound so to speak. but it really depends on what sound you are after
When have you ever seen a Jem bass? Where do I say Ibanez basses are crap? How is it bass snobbery? I know you've been to the pub but you could at least read it properly before you reply. And it's never a good idea to be when you're beered up.
in a slightly clearer state of mind i should reply i took 'Jem' to be misspelling of 'THEM', hence the frazzeled delusional thingy assuming ibanez are crap. and the was poor choice of smilie the bass snobbery was actually sarcasm which i find is bloody hard to get across in a forum based situation. my appologies for being a twat
Would love a go on that pedalboard
especially as the boss equivalent would be £900 + dry up the arse compared to £200+ for the behringer
Anyone who plays an Ibanez Jem DARE not talk to me about basses not sounding right, not if they don't want a Wizard II where the sun don't shine.
wot you trying to say then? ibby players dont know sh*te? that right there is bass snobbery at the end of the day if it sounds right regardsless of wether it costs the right amount of money then thats waht matters. edit been down the pub cant be arsed to spell check
-
having the finances certainly helps to fitting into the snob catagory, which i dont so i cant though i'd like to be a snob but then i aint even fussed what brand of beans i get. guess i'm kind of a pseudo snob, in that i cant sit here and say i'd never buy a P bass for example cos they are sh*te and arias are for schools but having played neither. its a dream world of GAS, i think alot of us live in hmm that didnt make much sense

good choice, i love my 500, sounds awesome

well on that note (no pun intended) we/I had a few problems with ZZ top Gimme all your lovin, the break bit at about 2:30 - 2:45 where it becomes very open then goes off time, made harder cos the drummer cant get it so i'm playing it but he's not. the rest of the song is mainly eigth notes but has to flow. -
shame dude, but then you have learned a valuable lesson. take your own stuff, cos it can take a while to find your sound on another rig that you dont know.

ashdown abm 500 evoII c115 combo and 41ot question
lowhand_mike replied to dabootsy's topic in Amps and Cabs
or you could put them side by side, the combo is a little smaller than the 410 IIRC so could look a little odd on top, you could even put them on seperate side of the stage to spread the love -
nice, probably what happened is that ashdown have fased out the EVOII and you have part of the new stuff, simple swop but nice touch none the less.
This sounds like most practices I've been to over the years. You spend hours listening and re-listening to songs only for the others to either not bother learning them, or worst still, change their minds and suggest other songs for learning...
+100 lazy gits er oh yeah back on topic Hysteria - Muse Tobacco Road - David Lee Roth version (Billy Sheehan on bass ) Vertigo - U2 Paranoid - Black Sabbath

wow, sweet. sorry that probably didnt help but like you said they need to be played, they yern to be played, if she went to a good home all is well.
