band t-shirt to give to the occasional pissed off person.

I used to travel London busses with my self-made bucket bass. Sometimes the attention made me take a cab.

Yery happy with Minimark. 150W on 2 x 6 inch, may not shake your trousers but totally loud enough for the odd small venue. But it takes an extension cab and then goes up to 350W - wooow. The best thing is that it is _seriously_ portable, but loud enough to keep up with any sane drummer.

Hello m8, i've done something quite similar - albeit, mine was actually in a worse condition! the thread is here http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...=serious+repair just keep going, it's fun - but a heck load of work at the end!

How to get a punk sound? First, practise room - got to be cold and damp with hard walls (garage, cellar) Second, drummer - needs to be crap but insaneley loud Third, equipment - got to be borrowed and crackling and sh*tty Fourth, drown a crate of beer or sniff some glue or both or more Fifth, crank up the volume that should do it worked for me i mean come on, is punk the new classical music???

It is that easy to search the forum, and that easy to compare prices - how can anyone make a profit or a loss? without it being the person's own fault? Another thing is selling stuff that then don't work - in which case, blame, and return money / goods, usual businezz practise too! Oh and by the way, selling is an activity - no wonder most shops need to charge say 50% more than they pay for the stuff. I think it is fair enough that there is a little reward for somebody who's providing goods to the market. You got to cover your p&p, your Internet bill and the bag of crisps you munch while comparing prices... Nothing wrong with a profit, bless them i'd say, as long as the stuff is quality and can be re-sold. Agree that if a price is too LOW people should be made aware of that rather than ripped of by buying it too cheaply. If the price is too high, it won't become realised, bottom line full stop. But if somebody insists on giving stuff away much under market value - hey, bless them too!

Hey, what happend to the double bass bash? I'm really really up for that... should we wait until spring?
-
it is certainly the best to go to a luthier, but i was really impressed when my mate (who is a really kool psychobilly player for many many years) just poked it up with the bbq fork and wedged it up again... it isn't that hard really, might be worth a try...

+1 for the yammi bass. i have an rbx that i modded - the schaller 4d bridge turned it into a monster. everyone loves it now.

I just left my band - sort of - just decided I can't be bothered waiting for the guitarist to turn up any more. It feels great, to be honest. Only drawback is that I have bought a lot of kit that I really can't be using at home, and it looks at me with sad drivers On the other hand, can there be a bass player without band? I mean, BE the band - a band that doesn't have a bass is no band or is it? So forget about that, and just form another one... finally we're the base of the music, and it's always good to build a building from bottom to top am I right?
Indeed. Got both Microbass 2 and the Valve drive. I prefer the Microbass but the Valve drive is great if you are into your dirtier crunchier stuff. I actually run the gain on the valve drive really low to add a little warmth to the signal when recording using my computer's soundcard.
Microbass 2. Phantastic, I'll marry mine. I use EBS multidrive and multicomp with it. WOOW. I shopped everything else.

yes of course, there is charm to hand-made. but it WILL affect the resell value of your cab... go for the spare grill then if you can as for brightness, you can screen print ANY colour (flourescents, silver, ...) - and the resolution is higher... i have done stencils for ages, now screen print is the same in a better quality - and it saves the cutting, and the screen lasts longer....
-
I am running a screen printing business and here is what I recommend. Next time you get your band logo printed (on t-shirts, for example) get the image printed on a sheet of fabric in the same run. Of if that's too professional, make your own stencil and use spray if must be. Fabric that's not too dense, of course, just some cheap thin cotton, curtain material... That you attach to the front of your cab under or over the grill. Gaffa tape or velcro, or just by taking the grill off, putting the fabric underneath, screwing through it, cutting the bits off. Like that you don't have to alter your cab. Needless to say, you can do the same for your PA speakers, or just decorate PA speakers in the venue, use one of these sheets for the bass drum, hang one up behind the guy in the box office, etc. Screen printed sheets / banners like that can be washed like any t-shirt of course - much more durable than paper stuff. Have even printed napkins (!) for Faust (!)

great idea, count me in!

I have upgraded my Yammi until nothing but the wood remained original (nice shape isn't it) ... Different pickup was a good step up, but the biggest improvement in tone was upgrading the bridge from really crap fender p bass style to a heavy mass Schaller 4D - wooow suddenly it feels just like playing a Warwick of some kind (guys, don't be offended) It depends on what you've got on there, really, as any part of the hard ware can be changed and improved to taste.

crappiest bass I have ever owned was one i made myself it comprised a plastic bucket, a stick and a string used it for busking while homeless but it was the only bass so far that has made me more money than it did cost me i ended up improving it, adding a finger board and a pedal and a proper tuning peg, until it was actually quite playable - recordings on my band's website now beat that guys
