Who is impressed by drinking ability? People on the drinking road, who can't drink as much as you can. Why are they impressed? Because they think, albeit don't admit, "if he is still half way intelligent after so much drink, he must be a true smart ass when he's sober". Truth is, if anyone has a lot of drink and still walks straight, it's alcoholism, not being smart, strong or anything. Never mind a sip of Jägermeister before a gig - it's the best thing you can do. Also really helps with vocals -- for which, of course, beer is the worst....

I was presented this for helping a friend move house. The mechanics need repair, but it is a very very fine souding steel string guitar, German make from 1953, Hopf. The manufacturer-family Hopf has been making instruments since at least the 17th century. I'm so happy (hence the prosecco bottle)!

How easily replaceable are you for your band?

Sometimes I wish I would be replacable and sometimes I wish they would!!! -
Dashing down the motorway with my gear to a pub near where I usually stay to get in a drink while the rest of the (non-driving) band sits back in the venue getting happily pissed. Welcome to the world of upright bass. Dorothy Sayers said somewhere ''like a double bass player, permanently encumbered with luggage.
gig in North London, back in the day when I was squatting... Played a fab gig in a social centre, me on the wash tub bass sounded huuuge... The guy who had been playing the upright in the band before had his eyes popping out, saying "why on earth have i spent 500+ quid on a db, which wasn't audible, and then you come and do THIS to me!" - He was even more gutted when he, packing his DB in the back of a taxi, saw me flying by on a bicycle with the bass strapped on the back of it ... with the amp on the other side of the bike!!! What a laugh. I miss those days. Though they were a pain in the ass!

I always thought Punk being an artistic and social movement above all else. In terms of attitude, it's been a liberating experience to do whatever without any ability.

What kinda band was this guy in...to make this?? :)

As a heraldic form, that's called cross pattée. -
yep, I know the feeling - singer songwriter type of guy, who is so ingenious that he just won't understand why chord charts are needed, not only refusing to provide them, but actually being upset if you do it because it shows his inability. When I complained about why it was me having to write somebody else's tunes down, he said "it is not my job!". I wondere if it was mine, I mean, all un-paid business? At least, could be glad you've done it!!! Find a drummer, build it up from the base - makes more sense. Be the band.

I'd rather like to hear if someone has experience with the sound of the thing. I don't mind the looks, besides, not too many bass cabs to my specs here on ebay.de - cheers MusicMan20 It's meant to work as extension cab with my Minimark which has 2x6", which I used to run with a Dr.Bass1580 which sounded phantastic. Hence my quest for another 15"

Had a go on a sousaphone one day on a festival, awesome and much easier than I would have thought. Well yes to play properly will be hard as it is on any instrument. I am not a wind player, but I reckon as long as you stay in Bflat Eflat etc. it is comparatively easy it seems - and being a sousaphone, you have to stay there anyway... much more limited than a tuba. I spotted one in a local shop around the corner here but apparently, somebody had converted it into a lamp shade and it was beyond repair, bastards.
The one I have appears to need a bit of adjusting at the bridge saddles too, but I'll wait a while. I also like to lower the G string so that it's closer - within limits, of course - to the fingerboard than the other strings, as I find it easier to play like that. That's something I'll do in a few weeks' time as well.
Why wait? I mean, it's up to you, but changing bridge height and position on an electric guitar is a simple operation that takes seconds... just make sure you've got the correct tool, and do like 1/4 turn at a time, so you can go back any moment. I would think its's better to just correct that imperfect setup rather than getting used to a wrongly tuned instrument. I find it astonishing how many people are spooked by bridge adjustment - anyone with a tuner and a good ear can do that, it's not harder than tuning the strings from the other end, in my finding. -
Now they do these "road worn" basses I suppose smoke-stained basses will sell for more soon. I still think nothing looks more rock'n'roll than cigarette burn on a guitar neck. Luckily, the world is still in order - here, both Berlin and Hamburg, people smoke as they please, nobody gives a toss. So I guess we'll be selling smoke-stained guitars to the UK soon (extra option at thomann's second hand section)

Well spoken Davo. I believe you can always only blame yourself - if you have to blame the people you hang out with, it's you to blame again. Apart from that, it seems there are always two roads to solution of a problem: one is technology, the other one practise, and in most cases, you have to consider them both. Get him a metronome and get him to practise - if he refuses any of the two, change your line-up.
