1. At the end it's the sound. But yes solid top should cost more. Get one of these little mirrors that dentists use to have a closer look inside.
2. I once had a talk with a woman on a market stall who was making beautiful leather corsets & suff, she told me she had custom made straps for players with serious back problems. May be worth considering that option? I am certain more can be done - you don't have to stick to just a strap, for example, but could have two straps in a more backpack-like construction.
3. You know this http://betterthanthevan.com/
4. Donate them to your local stoner. Perfect for cleaning bongs.
5. Since people flash all sorts of gear here, I wonder if anyone has a particularly amazing case to show??
6.
To be fair, you'd get some puzzled looks if you asked for a 3-core power lead terminated with a 13-Amp plug at one end and a female 6-amp IEC 1 plug at the other... And the guy behind the bar would reach across and grab the greasy, white, coiled flex with a 10-Amp IEC 1 plug that supplies power to their... kettle. I call them power leads, myself.
Why not just call them Kaltgerätekupplung nach Norm IEC 60320 C13 ... well that's certainly not musicians calling them like that...
7. the old fender ones were wound up until "full" so it is only recent that there is consciousness about that. if you manage to fix it onto something that would turn it those 4000 times, you could wind it yourself - however, probably better to let somebody do it who has the equipment & experience.
8. +1 for the microbass
9. I got a pre-eb preamp replica from Higgie here from BC, which i got it squeezed in with the battery without having to extend the cavity. Mid-term I'll be chiseling a battery compartment (from the back) in though. Truth is that this or a similar mod is a must for any OLP imo
10. Whoever is going to get this, just stick a 2 band eq in there and bob's your uncle
11.
Good lord! I know Sian very well, it's usually me and her dancing at the front of most TGU gigs I think I may have been at the same gig as you mate! How funny!
Sian helped me out with screen printing gear when I just arrived in the UK with the Clown Army... Happy days of squats and stuff... Send her my love!!
12. Back to Sheema, who is fabulous, I had the honour of being presented to her as I we have a mutual friend in Sian (you might know her, wonderful lady). That was some gig in Cargo back in the day!
13.
I confess that I don't like the facebook integration at all. Every time you visit a page that has a facebook like button on it, information about you is sent to facebook via that iframe. Even if you don't click "like", the fact that you visit this site is transmitted to facebook (if you are logged into fb on another tab, for instance). If you log into fb later, it can see you have been visiting this site. If you do not have an fb account, but create one in the future, all the past data that has already been collected will be used by facebook and sold for advertisement purposes. You will soon see all these bass related adds on your facebook page... One of the German states has now made the facebook like button ILLEGAL for this reason... I have removed it from all the sites I am running... And would seriously like you guys to do the same, do me a favour. What the hell, we don't need facebook do we, licking up to such a ... well ...
No issue, no offence, nobody?
14. Beautiful violinist. Come on, somebody else must have some cute female band members?

16. This topic makes me wonder about the "basses to girlfriends ratio". For me it's about 1:7. Not so sure if I should be proud or ashamed.
17.
I spent a fair while on it but I just could not get the intonation right. I gave up in the end and returned it to EADG and sold it Just because I couldn't get it to work, doesn't mean it won't work for you.
Hm what's that 5 string yamaha I see in your sig... 50 quid... seriously? (I won't buy it because I live oversees now but I guess I would if I was near you)
18.
Yep, some people can get a bit silly about you can or can't do - or aren't 'supposed to do' - with a fretless. When I've tried to join several punk bands over the years, they said no to the fretless - this despite the fact that I prefer to play with a plectrum, and know that I can colour things with compression, overdrive, etc. Bigger fools them really - and it tends to ignore certain players who have done similar things in established bands over the years.
I always thought the only reason to have fretmarks on fretless would be to fool those kind of guys...
19. Frontman of the Lonesome Cowboys from Hell post some more pics of the musical chicks please...!
20.
BUMP
are you interested in trading this for a EBS multidrive, some little cash your way? just asking. free bump!
21. We already have a popular thread posting photos of ourselves, but frequently there seem to be more interest in the singer / front man/woman of the band then in the bass player... so why not, please post a pic of your front person - would be fun.
22.
Yep, some people can get a bit silly about you can or can't do - or aren't 'supposed to do' - with a fretless. 23. I love music - who wouldn't. Not so sure about the bass - it's a tool, but I don't manage to play the music my heart desires, so it keeps frustrating me. If I wouldn't love music so much, I'd throw it away! Sometimes this makes me want to hate music. My brother says music is for people to disagree upon. Indeed, easier to agree on the bass being a nice instrument then to agree on the music it plays. So maybe I should love bass and hate music. Confused
24. I find that the fingering technique is rather different. On fretted, I use 4 fingers - 4 frets. On fretless, I use a fingering similar to double bass, in that I use index and pinkie much more and ring finger almost never; so a 1:1 transition between the two might be a misleading approach (and is certainly a reason for why guitar players find it hard). Anybody else has something to say about that, would be interesting.
