1. Evening All, After much head scratching and umming and ahhing, I have decided that this beast needs to be moved on as I cant give it the time it deserves as I am too wrapped up in my Geddy Lee and $$5 string!! I bought this from Mr Cougar, the ever helpful and general all round top bloke otherwise known as Jim, and I have put a link below to the original thread as he explains the pros and cons of this better than I could!!! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry282635 To add further to this, the action is high at present, I dont know if this is the result of anything sinister neckwise or not - However I will include a rather lovely SX fretless Block Inlays in maple so you could always just swap the whole thing over. Sound wise, it is brilliant, I'm just not using it and dont know enough about truss rods and the like to begin tweaking to see if this will alleviate the action issue. End of the day this is a tremendous bass with a solvable issue for the right person. I dont want to sell it to be fair but it is money sat on the wall I could put to other uses!!!! I paid Jim £250 for the bass, I have changed the scratchplate to Black but other than that it is as per the photos on Jims original thread. The neck I bought from Myke T for £50 a couple of weeks back. Ideally I'd liketo get £300 back but will accpet £275 collected. I'd really rather not post as I'd like any prospective buyerto see the bass first and be happy with it. Okay - I've taken enough of your valuable time people. Please PM me if your interested. many thanks THOJC ( Matt) Original Thread
2. Purchased SX fretless neck from Myke - Superb, stuff, great communication and arrived in tip top condition. nice one! Matt
3.
Tricky.... You need to decide whether the '73 Fender bit is important, or you just want to fix a faulty bass. The provenance thing is a bit of a non-issue on a bass with two trees, a Badass and Seymour Duncans... If you want a 'genuine' '73 either get the neck repaired/refinished (probably at considerable cost) or purchase another '73 neck (also considerably expensive), then source a '73 pickup and bridge. Or sell it (might be problematic given the above issues) plus bowed neck (I take it this can't be resolved with the trussrod)... If you just like the thing and want to play it, then either get another P neck - Japanese come up fairly regularly and you get a logo - Mighty Mite are very substantial and feel authentic. Good luck!
Good points!!! The age thing isn't an issue - I just love the sound of it, so I think the replacement neck is the way forward, your quite right, not much point shelling out for a date correct neck with, given the mods its got now....I do like the look of the mighty mite necks but will keep an eye open to see if anything comes up. Cheers Stewart, Regards Matt
4. People Of The Bass Chat Community ...I NEED YOUR HELP!!! Okay, enough of the dramatics...to business! I have a US Black Precision with Maple neck, i think its a 73 ish..( S19****) that i bought from Mr Cougar..Jim...some months back fitted with a Badass II and Bass LinesPUPs, now first and foremost, i bought this knowing EXACTLY the condition the bass was in , and if i can find the link to the original thread I will post it up, But basically the neck has a somewhat "unique" issue....there is a forward bend in the headstock...not the neck, just the headstock. this has resulted in the fitting of a secondary string tree ( I believe this was done by John Shuker) on the A&D under the original string tree, however the action is without doubt on the high side...in fact now pretty darn unplayable...so the question(s) to you all is as follows - 1) Does anyone have any idea if this can be treated? 2) if I fit a new neck, doesn't this materially affect the value/provenance of the bass? although I guess i could retain the orginal to show the serial # 3) does anyone have a replacement ( must be maple) neck ? 4) would anyone be interested in a trade or sale on the bass as it stands? If there is interest then I will post photos....I really dont know what to do on this, it has THE most immense tone and bottom end ...but the action has become an issue for me.... Help me BC'rs you are my only help!!! Cheers Matt
5. Hi, We have a sh1tload of odd size pallets knocking around at work. we cant use them as all are non std ( ie not 1000x1200) some bigger some smaller. All free to anyone who can collect from Leicester. If you want 1 or 50 of 'em thats cool, just send me a PM. Cheers Matt
6.
Traded a Vette $$ 5 string for a CIJ 62 reissue Jazz. Good bloke and thanks for the coffee! At least I can blame him when the girlfriend complains I've just bought another bass, as I now want a Geddy Jazz after seeing his!!!!! I thought the piccies sent were great but the bass was even better in the flesh (it's a blooming stunner!!! So good it needs to be in the Gear Porn section - I'm working on it)! Believe it came from Mr Cougar originally and was mint and is still mint now! Severe wrist and elbow pain from playing both recent trades (PB from King Tut and JB) into the early hours of Sunday morning.... It's a different sort of wrist pain to the usual!! Many thanks for a great trade - I'm as happy as pig in poo!!!
Cheers Rich!! Much appreciated!! Just to let all BC'ers know Rich is a totally top bloke to deal with...arrived bang on time, great bloke and a pleasure to do business with. ...I will NOT accept any blame/damage to relationship as a result of the "Geddy" factor!!!!!!!!! Cheers Matt
7. Hi Folks, Had to relate this tale for one and all. Thornybank ( Chris ) is advertising a Geddy Lee and a black SP, now I have the GL, and have been after a quality Black SP for ages, so emailed to see if Chris would sell seperately. Not only did he agree ( with a very reasonable price!) but he sent it the next day on trust of me sending him the money if I liked it! It was such a pleasure to have that level of trust. It may "only" have been a Scratchplate, but fcuk me, I was blown away!!! The Plate fits a treat and the dosh is winging its way North Of the Border as I write this.. So in brief, top bloke and a testament to the fact that 99.99% of BC'ers are a pleasure to deal with. Happy New Year All, Matt
8.
Can lower the price without the bag....
Would you sell the Black SP seperately at all?? If so how much would you want ? Many thanks Matt
9. Afternoon, sorry to be thick, but can you confirm if this is a 3 ply scratch plate? Cheers Matt
10. Finally managed to collect this today. Third transaction with Jim and cannot recommend him highly enough. Thanks again Jim. Cheers Matt
11. Apologies to all other Bc'ers, please dont think there was anythign underhand to this, Jim and I had been discussing this off line , therefore the bid went in as soon as the post was made. As for honesty on JIm s part, i cant recommend the guy highly enough. this will be the third item I've taken off his hands ( 2nd Bass) and he is an absolute pleasure to deal with and is integrity is 100%. I am fully aware of the (potential) issues with this bass and 100% happy its as Jim described it! Cheers Matt
12. that is without a doubt THE most gorgeous bass I have ever seen!!! Best of luck with the sale.
13. With no wish to hijack this thread.... I think this is a really sad state of affairs. The Beat has bought what he thought was a genuine , very lovely looking, bass at what seemed a realistic price....shame the seller had no scrupals.... Dude, i really hope you manage to re-coup your investment on this...it is a stunning looking beast. All the best.
14.
pmd ya
Pm'd back squire!
15. c'mon guys ......pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeee dont make me evil bay it!!!!!!
16.
Are you open to trades?
TO be honest not really....unless it happens to be a black/black precision with maple neck!!! Thanks anyway. Matt
17. Evening All, In a pathetic attempt to placate the wife ( before I go right ahead and get another bass !!!!) I am moving on my Ibanez BTB6. Purchased from Gaff, this is in superb condition. There is one tiny blemish to the upper body side that I will try to photograph for your delight, but please be assured this has been one very well looked after bass. I cannot really justify it hanging on its hook and try as I might, I just haven't really clicked with the whole EBR thang! Any trial ( and a cuppa) more than welcome if you can get yourself to Leicester.....looking at £275 for this although if required postage will be at cost on top of this. If you have any questions at all please PM me , Thanks Matt
18. How on earth has this not sold yet?????!! Fantastic bass, superb price.....If only I didnt have impending holidays.....too many guitars already.....and a not entirely understanding wife!!!!!! A tuesday evening bump!!!
19. That is a truly stunning bass...... Don't suppose you'd want to trade for 15 month old twins?????!!!!!!!!
