It started as "Go on then, just a touch to accentuate my cheekbones."

Curious how this, and indeed an original Mutron III, will compare to the new Behringer B-Tron III coming out soon.

Just got home from seeing Cory Wong in Manchester. Absolutely floored by the support band Couch; not only the quality of the music, but the mix was flawless from the first note. Super tight and funky, awesome singer. Cory’s set was amazing too, but the mix wasn’t as good. At times I couldn’t hear his guitar, and the bass was pretty much inaudible all the time. Didn’t spoil the night though. Musicianship was off the scale. My son’s verdict at the end of Cory’s set: “That was insane!”

Oh, that VW. Makes more sense than what I was thinking.

We had an old Merc bus as our band transport. On the way to one gig the wipers packed up, so my job was to sit in the footwell with a pair of mole grips on the back of the wiper spindle, manually clearing the screen. We stopped to pick up a couple of bedraggled hitch hikers. The door opened, they took in the scene of me sitting on the floor with a pair of mole grips, and changed their minds about wanting a lift. In the rain.

My Squier Mike Dirnt. In best ebay classifieds tradition, it's 100% original. Apart from the refinish. And the extra pickup. And the scratchplate. And the Hipshot D-tuner.

Oof. I have no need for another Precision but I absolutely love that.

But you have to supply your own cape.

Ok, I'll bite. 1) 1975 refinished Daphne Blue (at least that was the colour I asked for). Bought for £450 in about 1997, it was a horrible kind of orange peely red. Possibly the nastiest neck I've ever seen, looks like parts of it were sanded down and then varnished with a wallpaper brush. Forget playing anything up the dusty end, BUT it's got a very old set of flatwounds and sounds gorgeous. Much heavier than my other two. 2) 1964 Sunburst. All original, my holy grail bass. 3) 1975 natural refinish. Got this for £450 (£400 plus £50 for stripping off the horrible DIY snakeskin finish) from Birmingham Musical Exchange in 1996. Seymour Duncan Quarterpounders, Schaller bridge, in many ways it resembles Fender's Nate Mendel signature Precision. A bit of a dog but the most comfortable neck ever.

If he said "refinished" he'd have to knock £10k off the price...

I quite often go to the timber yard and ask for "2.4m of 4" x 2"", or an 8' x 4' sheet of 18mm ply. Nobody bats an eyelid.

I think Mark D Philips is selling this one on eBay.

Anyone ever bought a prized instrument from Cash Converters?
mowf replied to Grand Wazoo's topic in Bass Guitars
In response to the OP, I suspect there’s a few who have unwittingly bought someone else’s prized instrument from CC. -
It's amazing that the manufacturers haven't yet caught on.

Caravan Palace last night at Manchester Albert Hall. Got there a bit late so we ended up at the front end of the balcony overlooking the bassplayer. Astonishingly talented bunch of multi instrumentalists, and given that we were behind the main PA and just getting a mix off a backfill speaker the sound wasn't as bad as I feared. The bass sound, in the context of the live mix, was one of the best I've ever heard (Seafoam green Fender jazz, tort, rosewood, blocks, and an EUB for a few numbers). The disappointing thing was he only used the Jazz for about 3 or 4 songs.
-
So you could buy a new one, pay for a decent respray and still have a couple of hundred change out of a grand instead.
-
If the singer wants you to pay for a share of his PA, then maybe you could get him to contribute next time you see a bass you fancy.

It's Wednesday, but I'm not sure if they'd go in the Recycling or not so I couldn't tell you which week.

Ah, excellent plan, thanks. That was almost embarrassing. I think I'll just leave the '75s out for the bin men, save the charity shops the trouble of trying to offload them.
-
Well that's just a kick in the teeth for someone who has one from 1964 and two from 1975. I'd imagine.
-
"Hey man, I loved your bass tone tonight. It was really... efficient." Said no-one, ever.
-
Sounds like you had a lucky escape. Some might say.

I've seen worse relicing ( is that how it's spelt?), to be fair.
