  1. Absolutely. It's high time we got Vol.2, 1972 onwards!
  2. I bought Geddy's book. Ended up costing me thousands.
  3. I saw this today and it warranted a second look: https://reverb.com/uk/item/67439380-fender-jazzbass-1972-sunburst Only because the neck is clearly dated '72, but as far as I'm aware they didn't start using pearl blocks with maple necks until mid 1973. This neck must have been hanging around a for a while. Well I thought it was quite interesting anyway.
  4. How about targeting the folks who buy them just to hang on the wall: Fender Dentist Fender Accountant Fender Lawyer Fender Marketing Analyst For Big Digital Startup Nobody's Ever Heard Of (potential neck dive problem with this one) Etc.
  5. Not sure why you'd want to touch this for £10k when for only £1,200 more you could buy that refin that Mr Dream On picked up for £3800 at auction a week prior. https://reverb.com/uk/item/66798899-fender-precision-bass-with-rosewood-fretboard-1966-sunburst-made-in-usa-ser-no-1xxxx6-includes-hard-case I noticed he'd also bought a couple of Gibson Les Pauls in the same auction and was trying the same trick with them.
  6. Wow. I think the seller should change their name to The Dream On Vault.
  7. I was watching them too. The white 62P was about £5500 including fees, someone got a good deal there if it's as described.
  8. Love it, but it's just crying out for a pointy headstock!
  9. I thought for a moment there that someone had nicked your instrument listing tool.
  10. If this was a fretless I’d be all over it. Oh, and a different colour. 5 string.
  11. I expect they're all busy putting the finishing touches to the new website.
  12. I bought my friend an elephant for his room.
    He said “thanks”
    I said “don’t mention it”

      Paul S

      Still giggling at this. :D

  13. I've got an early '80s SVT head and 8 x 10 cab. It is, as Walshy says, absolute heaven (to listen to). I generally get the same feeling using it, that I get when I come inside after a walk in the cold, and can warm up by standing with my back to a really nice fire. Toasty.
  14. You're right, I hadn't spotted the "original case" bit in the description and it definitely looks like a refin. I think on balance I'd prefer to pay extra and buy from a reputable dealer, just to have a little more peace of mind in the provenance. Not that I'm looking!
  15. Just seen this on Reverb: https://reverb.com/uk/item/65208217-fender-precision-base-1964-fiesta-red Seems pretty cheap if it is as described.
  16. Last month was a bit strange for me, after an admirably long time spent GAS-free I found myself really wanting to buy something again but didn't know what. All the basses on my hitlist are £3k upwards and very definitely out of the question, so I ended up buying a black Epiphone Les Paul Custom for £350 and learning Darkness guitar riffs. Sorry to offend the purists, it took me by surprise as much as anyone but GAS has been well and truly abated for a fraction of the cost of a desirable (to me) bass and it's been a blast.
  17. Ok, I'll play: Hohner (Jack headless). Sold to mate. A mate, that is, not... I could have phrased that better. Westone (Thunder III fretless). No idea what happened to this bass. MusicMan (SR5 fretless) Warwick (thumb 5) Sold to pay for crashing mum's car. MusicMan (SR5) Fender (P) Fender (P) Fender (J) G&L (L2500 Tribute) Unknown (horrible fretless P copy) Fender (J) Sold Fender (J) Epiphone (Jack Casady) Squier (Mike Dirnt P) Rickenbacker (4003w) Fender (P)
  18. Really sorry if this has already been covered somewhere in the previous 23 pages, but how do I go about entering the sweepstake for when the new BD website will go live? I've got November. 2024.
  19. It wasn't my intention for this to be a Ric bashing thread, sorry if it's gone that way slightly! I was just making a lighthearted comparison as it seems to me that Ric owners will, like HD owners, willingly overlook flaws and build quality that perhaps they wouldn't accept in other makes (especially at similar prices) just because it's such an iconic product. Of course the big question is, do Harley owners leave the "Made in America" sticker on or not?
  20. Ok, I’ve got an old SVT (this will be buried with me) and a new one of those mini stack things (for a practice amp). They both have loud fans. I’d love a B15 but can’t justify it (and that’s coming from a guy with 12 basses and no gigs…) My point was that all Ampegs are cool.
  21. I bought a brand new 4003w. I had to take it apart to shave a bit off the foam mute; a couple of the screws are showing signs of corrosion; the printing is wearing off the jack sockets. I have never gigged this bass… so you’re probably right, but the point I’m trying to make is that the Ricky is basically rubbish and overpriced but still loved.
  22. I’ve always loved the Rickenbacker vibe and was fortunate enough to be able to scratch the itch and buy one back in 2021. I’ve joined the odd Ricky Facebook group and whatnot, noodled about with Rufus (I called it Rufus. Please don’t think less of me) and have come to realise that this bass is basically a Harley Davidson. It looks iconic and sounds iconic, owners absolutely love it but in the cold light of day the build quality is actually pretty rough and you’d probably be better off with a Yamaha.
  23. Ah ha ha. In my experience no, but as the cooling fans they use seem to expend most of their energy on being really LOUD, you could be forgiven for thinking so.
  24. According to Google, “very cool Ampeg” is actually a tautology.
