I'm sure that someone like OBBM could supply almost any lead you wanted, but based on past experience making up specialised leads or cable snakes they have tended to be so complicated that by the time I'd explained to someone else exactly what was required, I would have almost finished the job myself.
Fair enough!
 2.
Interesting: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=134830
I'm not sure what you're suggesting, but the graining on the headstock is quite different. Definitely not the same bass! Whoops, just noticed the skunk stripe too! So maybe it's the same bass with a new neck ?
 3.
Link doesn't work anymore so I'm guessing it's been pulled.
The link works fine for me now, but says it was posted just under an hour ago. Given the junk on gumtree, I'd be amazed if they've ever pulled anything, no matter how dodgy. Of course, I'd love to hear otherwise, but until then I'll rely on gumtree being primarily for amusement purposes only.
 4.
Having gone the DIY route for many years I now believe that making your own leads is only worthwhile if: 1. You are already an experienced solderer, or have the time and patience to learn how to be one. 2. You have lots of free time that wouldn't be better spent doing something else. 3. You are going to be making up a large quantity of leads, or you need some highly specialised ones. 4. You are looking to save every penny that you can. Otherwise get OBBM to make them for you. You'll get high quality cables which will most likely be made better than you can do yourself and only slightly more than the cost of the materials in the quantities you'll be buying.
+1000. Very good practical post. My only quibble would be with point 3b - I'd guess that OBBM could handle most specialized requests.
 5.
Should it say Trade MRRK on the headstock?
6.
basically i tried out a Boss Bass EQ pedal earlier and loved the sounds of what you can make from it. but i want to find out if any other brand of pedals make a decent EQ pedal. does anyone own or have used a HARLEY BENTON BEQ-1 pedal?. i cant find a review online so i wanted to ask you guys. i found a behringer EQ pedal but have been advised that Behringer are not reliable.
Oh dear, what a lot of comments about the Behringer and the Boss, and none about the HB pedal you're actually asking about! Unfortunately I can't help much because I don't have any direct experience of either HB or Behringer pedals. But from what I know of both brands, I'd expect they're pretty comparable. Harley Benton, in case you don't know, is Thomann's own brand. Some of their stuff is good value - I got their short-scale bass for my son and it's well worth the £60 it cost. But some of their kit gets panned in reviews. And the same is true of Behringer. The Boss pedal is, of course, a lot more solid, probably sounds a bit better, and will be much easier to sell on if you decide it's not for you. So if you can afford it, go for the Boss. But if you're just wanting to experiment and wanting something for bedroom use, then both the HB and the Behringer will probably be fine.
 7.
Just get the first one.
+1. On the Streamliner you are lucky in that the aux in is in stereo. On my Shuttle the aux input is mono, so I had to build a stereo-mono cable in order to got both channels from the ipod coming into the amp.
 8. Are any of those Gibsons actually Gibsons?
 9.
So for my next question - does anyone have a simple, easy to read diagram so that I can build myself such a box? I was thinking about a box with 6" of cable coming out of it terminating in a speakon plug to connect to the amp with 2 speakon sockets at the other end I have seen them but they're expensive and I want cheap.
That should be a doddle to build. Unfortunately I've not wired a speakon connector, so I can't advise how to wire these up. To be honest, rather than having an integral cable, I'd probably build the box with three connectors - one to amp, and two to speakers.
 10.
In parallel it will be 2ohms, in series 8ohms
And to wire two cabs together in series you will generally need a bespoke lead or two - things are generally set up to work in parallel.
 11.
I don't think anyone's answered the question about whether both 2x10 cabs together should be stacked = or arranged || (I don't know BTW)
Good idea to use some "pictures"! In that language, isn't the "ideal" arrangement neither of these, but rather this: | | Between = and || there will be very little difference.
 12. Yep, if you change the pups but keep the preamp then you should hear some difference. How much is a matter of opinion and, obviously, depends on which pups you change from/to. But I'd guess that exactly the same could be said if you were proposing to keep the pups and change the preamp. Both contribute to the sound, probably in roughly equal measure.
 13.
... I dont know if it has active or passive pickups in it, Im not sure how to tell. ...
One way to tell is by counting the number of wires going to the pickups. If the pickup wires have 2 contacts then they're passive. Active pups need a power supply as well, so need 3 wires.
 14.
Too much took me 3 weeks.
ouch.
 15.
Found that out the hard way on my first re-fin.
Did you try taking too much off, or too little?
 16.
if youre going for a solid colour you shouldnt need to do much except take the gloss off it with fine sandpaper. Obviously you need to be careful of the cavities as the paint might narrow them.
Yep, don't try taking the whole finish off. Just make sure there are no glossy patches left (no reflections when you hold it to the light).
 17.
Weird that he bought a set of 12 string guitar strings.
Nice one, Sherlockpunkdude!
 18.
Right iv decided to give it ago myself! This is a big plunge since iv never tried anything remotely like this before =P ...
Great! Go for it!
One question I got though.... Whats the best way to strip a bass?
Buy it a few drinks and play some sexy music? Failing that, a bit of sandpaper will be enough to rough up the finish well enough to make the next layer of paint take. What colours are you going from and to?
 19.
Thanks for the replies I am very nervous about this because I've only ever picked up a drill once before. But I'm very careful and I know I'll do my best, just don't know how easily the paint chips etc. Would be crap to do a great job bit to have paint chipped off all round the holes! Did you guys remove the electrics first? I can't really figure out how deep the grounding wire runs, so wondered if anyone has any thoughts on this? Also, measuring up the hole for the pickup cover, it seems that there's not much wood to work with and the hole would be a matter of millimetres from the cavity - has this caused a problem for anyone here?
I've just done this and shared some of your concerns. To avoid chipping the paint I used masking tape, as suggested above. I also started off with a hobby drill and a tiny bit (something like 1mm), before drilling the full-size hole. I don't think you need to worry about the bridge-ground - the routing will have been designed to avoid the bridge-cover screw. And in the cavity yes, there isn't much wood for one of the screws to sit in, but it doesn't need much - it's under very little strain. After checking very carefully to make sure I had the cover in the right place (so was drilling the hole in exactly the right place) I just went for it and it was fine. Go carefully and I'm sure you'll have no problems.
 20.
So is there anywhere in Europe that sell Warwick's and will ship to the UK? Thomman do but they have quite a small range of Warwick Streamers and no fretless models. Anyone else sell them in Europe?
Several. Beyers, Cologne Musik-Schmidt Haven't bought anything from Musik-Schmidt, but I have from Beyers and the service was excellent, and they price-matched for me. (And all communication was in English, just in case you're worried about the language).
 21.
I'd say do it yourself, get the paint from Manchester Guitar Tech, it takes time but you get good results.
I'd say do it yourself, get the paint from Halfords. Yeah, you can probably get better results with MGT, but so much depends on your own skill level. If your spraying is crap then, even if top quality paint, the results are still going to be rubbish. Have a read through here too: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=136391 And have you seen this: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=140714
 22. Ok, ta. So it's a sign that the seller ended the auction rather than ebay ending it?
 23.
Ended early, and states no longer for sale!
And now it says there were no bids, but there were 10 or so the last time I looked. Price had only reached about £100 though. Do ebay always delete the bidding history when a listing is ended early? Or is that a sign of something dubious going on?
 24.
You've been to the Bigg Market on a friday evening?
I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.
