Is that a neck-through? Or a set-neck? Either way it looks interesting. Shame there isn't more detail or better pics.

Sue Ryder Charity Shops, apparently.
.... 1963. Some wear and non original parts. Currently missing somewhere in London.
Are you talking about the bass, or ...?
PANTS! They didn't make Warwicks back in 63 and I'm not playing a Framus!
+1 although the year isn't quite the same. I guess for '69 I'm stuck with something like this:
So if anyone wants to sell a reasonably clean copy of the Humphries Meet on the Ledge book for less than £20, PM me. Why is when I want to sell an out of print book on Amazon there's hundreds for 1p + postage, but if I want to buy one ....
I've found my copy. It's definitely not for sale, but if you can't find one to buy, and you want to borrow mine, I'd be happy to lend it.

Want to know why it's so ... erm ... affordable?

Wow, they sure have big woodworms over in America! -
Ok, that makes sense. So let's see if I've got this right: While the headphones are plugged in, my tiny resistor should be ok. But if I accidentally unplug the headphones, or forget to plug them in, and carry on playing, then that resistor may get too hot. So a bigger resistor (that can shed more heat) will guard me against that possibility.
If you've not got a fan on it i'd recomend something larger. Your amp will do 1W rms and a few more overdriven and if you're running the resistor near it's limit it'll get hot
Even though the amp isn't putting any signal through the resistor? (Since I only want this dummy load for when I'm using headphones, and the amp "disconnects the speaker" when the headphone socket is in use). I must admit I'm a bit lost on this, but if I had a speaker connected there would be no sound, so surely with a resistor in place instead of the speaker, the resistor will be getting no current through it. Or am I missing something again?

Even better! Thanks again!

What's my immaculate 5 string Warwick Corvette bubinga worth?

Sounds like a fair price all round. -

I think I might still have a copy of that somewhere, so if you have trouble finding one, PM me and I'll lend you mine.
Nope. It'll only handle 0.6W. If you want to do that you should be looking at something like these - the do an 8.2Ω one - you need to order part number H8.2R.
Well, the amp is only rated at 1W! Seriously though, thanks - that 8.2Ω one looks ideal. I just need to save up a further 37p

What's my immaculate 5 string Warwick Corvette bubinga worth?
mart replied to gareth1982's topic in General Discussion
At a rough guess, I'd say around £500-600. There have been some stunning Warwicks that have gone for less than that, and some for more. -
Having mulled this over, I definitely want to make up a dummy load, i.e., a jack connector wired to a resistor. Would this 10ohm resistor from Maplins do? Does the Eb have to be played on the Bb string? Wouldn't it be easier to play as: -3-4---0------------- ------2-----2------- -----------2-----2--- ---------------3---0- 2 3 1 0 1 2 3 1 -
A violinist I spoke to years ago said there was three distinct types of vibrato: (i) from the wrist to the fingers (ii) from the elbow and forearm to the fingers (iii) the whole arm moves. I find I vary between all three depending on the depth and speed of the vibrato I want. E.g. subtle and fast I use the wrist, slow but massively deep I use (iii), medium depth and moderate speed I use (ii).
I think vibrato needs to be tailored to the occasion, so having the range of these different techniques available is useful. Occasionally those classical types do know a thing or two ...
This is the deal. Forget the Thumb. You hate Warwicks right? And it's probably worth about £800 or so.
+1. I love Warwicks, so I'd go for the Thumb. But it's not an especially good deal, and Warwicks are hard to sell at the minute, whether they're brand new or serious vintage ones. So if you really hate Warwicks then you should go for the other deal.

So I finally got a response from Blackstar:
Thanks for the enquiry. We recommend that you have a speaker load attached but the speakers will be disconnected when the emulated output is in use. Hope this helps.
I can't say that I feel very enlightened by this response, but at least I'll stop complaining about them not replying!
aye and high impedance on the primary, the ecc82 shouldn't be all that picky
Thanks. I have to admit that I don't understand that , but it sounds like you do, which gives me confidence in what you say!

The book arrived today, so many thanks to gub! From a quick flick through it looks like an interesting read.

Because of the small output?
-
what amp is it? It could be switching the amp onto a dummy load.
It's a Blackstar HT1RH. (I've now edited my OP to include this information since it was buried further down in the thread).
What about wiring a 10 watt 8 ohm resistor across a jack plug and leaving it plugged in all the time unless you have a speaker connected? that way if you do accidentally unplug the headphones, there is no chance of running the output TR unloaded.
Thanks for the suggestion. I had been contemplating something like this - it would seem a quick and safe fix. And a lot more convenient than a speaker.

Have you got two of them??

Guitarist magazine had a review of the combo last month and had the following comments about the use of the valves "The single channel runs off a lone ECC83 preamp valve ..." and then, later, "Power comes from a not-that-common ECC82 dual triode that's using its two halves to run in class A/B push-pull configuration ..." I can't say that I understand much of that, but I read it as saying that it's using an ECC83 for the preamp and an ECC82 for the power amp, i.e., the output stage is not solid-state. Is that a fair reading? Of course, Guitarist may not know the facts, but that reads like something off a press-release/info pack.
