Another vote on the D'Addario Pro Steels, they seem to last better than similar priced strings and they're nice and zingy!
-
Are there any players you particularly like the sound of?
I'd personally go with a Stingray 5 out of the basses you've mentioned, as I think they cut through mixes nicely in louder/heavier bands, plus they have a great low B. Also as White Cloud mentioned, Lakland make good 5 string basses with a cracking low B. -

beautiful instrument.
Got a message.

I reckon you're probably about a year too late on this one, but you never know. -
Another Yamaha fan here, I've had a TRB for a few years that I picked up for next to nothing considering how nice it is. As Dingus mentioned though, the BB series are 34" scale so you'll probably be better off looking for one of those if you're going to use a high C instead of a low B. Yamaha basses come and go on the for sale section here all the time.

I'd be all over this if I hadn't bought a DJ5 not so long ago. Fantastic basses, you'd be very hard pushed to find a better jazz for this price.

:0 that really is so nice, I love the grain, is the finish really thin as the grain really seems to come through?
The bass is quite worn but I think it's just that the grain is particularly prominent on this p bass. -
Here's my trusty steed. 1974, all original, well loved. My favourite bass I've ever owned, we've been together for 7 years.
-
I use nothing more than a planet waves micro fibre cloth on my 70's p bass and it works fine on the nitro finish, no need to use any cleaning products on it. For the fretboard I use lemon oil and if I'm cleaning the frets I tape them off with low tack masking tape and use brasso (very sparingly!).

This bass is awesome, it really oozes character with that relic job. I bet you're chuffed to bits with it!

This looks good!

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this video yet, you absolutely nailed it bro! Tone and playing is spot on. -

I have 2 tickets for sale for the ATP Nightmare Before Christmas curated by Shellac (Friday 30th Nov - Sunday 2nd Dec @ Camber Sands, Butlins). http://www.atpfestiv...shellacxmas.php
I bought tickets for a 4 person chalet a few months ago but 2 of the guys that were meant to be going have bailed out, so you'd be joining myself and the other handsome bass player in my band.
We'll be driving from Leeds so if you're vaguely en route and you'd like a lift then I'm sure we can sort something out.
This festival has all but sold out now, with the exception of a few of the larger chalets. Tickets work out as £190 per person. If you'd like one (or both) of these tickets I think the best way to do it would be if I ask for a 50% deposit now and then the rest when we get there.
The lineup is currently looking like this (and they'll add more to it too) -
Cheers, Ed -
His bass parts on Blood Sugar Sex Magik are outstanding - just the right mix of holding it all together and showing some flare in tasteful places.

He's quite active on twitter https://twitter.com/#!/J_Alderete and instagram.

That made me laugh out loud.
But then, this makes me fall off my chair laughing too:

That's really funny! -
You won't get distortion from the micro POG.

I currently have 6 basses but if I had the money I would have a lot more, I could quite happily go to a BigRedX quantity of basses. I really enjoy having a nice choice of basses to play.
Although as for guitars, I have 2. One acoustic, one electric. I've had a Gibson SG standard for about 6 years and even though I kind of fancy a Tele, if I was playing guitar in a band again I'd probably buy a second SG. -

Try and hold out for a decent secondhand SS1 or the bolt on LX which IMO is a better slapper if thats your thing. The older LX's with the wenge necks being very nice and easy to play as they have a slim and comfortable neck very much like the vintage Streamers.
This. Especially if you're going through a Jamiroquai phase, Zenders sound is all about the Streamer. Corvettes are great basses, but tonally they're very different from a Streamer.
