its 300w @ 8 ohms so yeah it should do well. but when pairing amps and cabs the wattage isn't really that big a factor as you can hear an overloaded driver from a mile off. i was using a mag600 head with this (about 400w @ 8 ohms) and it pot out a lot more volume and low end than my other (now sold) 2x10 and 1x15 ashdown rig which was rated at a higher power. these older speakers are more sensitive so are louder per watt than newer (higher power rating) speakers.

i think that if i was in your position, i would take my rig, set it up, gather all of the other bassists up and say in a calm and relaxed voice, "f*** around with my gear and i'll f*** around with your face," make them scared of you.
A friend of mine bought it to use with his acoustic guitar (not semi!) & then discovered that he couldn't use it so gave it to me
Hahahahahaha, that sounds similar to a story ive heard of a guy buying an electric guitar from a music shop, fitting nylon strings,"because theyre easier to play," and complaining to the shop that they sold him a guitar that doesn't work.

seeing as your looking for the cheapest route... have you thought about ca (superglue) coating the neck? i used it to coat the 3 part maple/sapele/maple fretless board on my a-level product design bass and i was impressed at how hard it is. so far theres no damage from roundwounds and very little work got it up to glassy finish. it was really easy to apply... i think ive lost a few brain cells and smell receptors from the fumes from doing it in my bedroom though.

i have to partially agree with mog. in a lot of instances, its much easier to use one backline. i always take my full amp rig with me to a gig. if i'm there 1st then i'll set up (after checking with the promoter / sound guy / whoever) or if theres already a band there setting up, i'll check what the crack is and if possible and everyones happy and friendly i'll use whats there or use the cabs that are there with my head. the whole thing just goes more smoothly that way. less hassle for the bands between sets, less to carry, smoother transition and more room back / side stage. but back on track. the promoter imho sounds like an arse if he's simply expecting you to supply the backline for the whole gig. this sort of thing should be disgussed in person between the bands. Anyone who is expecting to play a gig should expect to use their own, theirs no harm in bringing it and not using it, would rather that than be without an amp.

ive always felt the same way about losing the low end, but ive seen a few pedals out there (cant remember any of the top of my head) that can split the signal so that you get overdriven mids and highs and it leaves the low end alone. should solve the problem.

just a thought... flip the nut and give it to a righty kid and tell him thats how hendrix played. -

this thread has made me feel a lot better about my playing. the band i'm is is working on a lot of original material but in the mean time were doing a few covers too and i in nearly all of them i like / have to personalise them a bit with my personal style and techniques. however i never get over the top and solo everywhere. the way i see it is as long as you keep the low end locked in and keep the vibe going then the odd different fill there and a few variations are all just your added touch.

just had an interview/ live set on spark fm.... well by live set i mean we werent able to use amps so it ended up being one guitarist with an acoustic and the singer, and by interview i mean the 5 of us acting like prats and giggling like little girls while the lass "presenter" didnt really know what she was doing. we alla actually had a really fun time, ended up pretty much talking crap on air for an hour and a half. singer: "oh, so this is live and being recorded? well can i just go on record as saying boobs"

ive been tempted by these, just seen them online and not had a go of one. i'm after an orange terror bass and not decided on cab but i was interested in these because of the good power, apparently good sound, will be cheaper than a terror bass and a cab and the ease of use / portability of a combo.

Breaking a string at a gig - has this happened to you?
Colledge replied to Clarky's topic in General Discussion
i broke a string at a gig a couple of years ago (E) and i had no spare bass and for some reason couldn't find a spare e string so strung up an a string in its place... did the job. also that must have been the fastest string change ever. ive seen mastodon 3 times and the bassist / singer broke a string on all 3 occasions. i think he gets a bit too carried away. -
but.... but.... i loved his old setup!

have you thought about using guitar pro? you can set it up to just show transcripts, i swear by it. also, pretty much unlimited songs to play along with.

have the ashdown rig on ebay now as a whole for quick sale, still offers welcome on here though. willing to split if required and i suppose postage can be arranged at the buyers expense. tried out an orange terror bass yesterday at soundslive and its given me major gas, if only i could afford the orange 4x10 i was playing through too... but thats a pie in the sky.

Has anyone ever thought about modifying a flight case to actually be a speaker cabinet? my trace cab has a flight case thats built like an absolute tank, this got me thinking about possibilities of getting a flight case about the size i want, fitting speakers and approximating the port sizes etc to get some decent sound. flight cases that ive dealed with where made out of good quality ply, (obviously) very hard wearing and also where lined with foam, which i'm sure would work well as a cab. i figure i'd only have to add all of the needed bits and pieces to fit the speakers, do wiring, add the connections on the back and probably change/modify the clasps to stop them rattling from the bass. am i missing something here? i realise that you'd never get perfect freq response or tuning that you'd get from a high end cab, but for us not too picky non- audiophile skint bassists it could work alright.

wowza, some sexy amp. i'm guessing its not really band environment material. if it was i'd be ALLOVER that.

sorry, didnt realise i had any replies on here. the trace cab is arround h108, w69 and d53 in the flight case. in the flight case it can snugly fit in my fiat stilo (mid sized hatchback) and without the case theres plenty of spare room for head and a few basses etc. also bump... i need room! edit: also able to deliver/meet for petrol money... within reason.

that thing looks like it should be a coffee table, not an instrument.
