Pearloid Tort P Bass Scratchplate (donated by WalMan)
The Crush via Clarky two years ago & the plate via whoever won it last year and forgot to take it xExcuse the parlous formatting & spelling from abroad on this damn tablet!! See you there - flights willing BTW Dave,if you're bringing any cables I could do with a speakon:speak on cable about standard 1m and a stereo cable with on right angle jack of about 20 feet (or nearest metre equivalent) -
I must be mutton (well I'm pretty sure I am) but my current setup is the best I've ever had (IMO obviously) and gets compliments for the sound in all the bands I've played with recently and from a number of other BP's. Streamliner 6, or more recently the TC BH250, into the Barefaced Super12T. Sounds marvellous, takes up little space & doesn't break my back. I have a vintage Marshall Superbass 100 that does sound lovely but it weighs a frickin ton & is too old & fragile

It was out of the ordinary. Was closed most of the day last year and many sat looking at the verge for most of the day going nowhere. It's not been that bad any other year -
For sale is my GB shuttle 6.0 head. As I'm sure you all know it's a really great piece of kit, however I am mostly using my P bass these days and I'm just after something a little warmer in character. Ironically the Genz has too much clarity for me right now! £280 collected. Happy to post at buyers expense.
Blimey is this all they go for A Streamliner will do you some lovely warmth. Chalk & cheese to the Shuttle.

Dep at a new venue in a new town for the band. Went OK but hardly anyone there but WAGs. Got set up and the PA amp blew a fuse so it was all a bit fraught on the set up - not for me though, bass, lead, amp & cab. 30 second set up. Remembered the words to All Right Now for the first time but I felt my vox were a bit off at times. MrsW reckoned they were fine (but what does she know ) Get up for the first set and the 'leader' says "Have you played 'How Long' with us before?" Thinks "I've never played it ... ever ... but I've heard it so how hard can it be?" Turns out the answer to that is 'not very' in fact I'd go so far as to say a piece of p155 TC BH250 sounded good and more than adequate for a fair sized room. Next up ... prog r/h this afternoon, holiday, SEBB the day after I get back & another dep with the same lot as last night that evening. Happy days

Annoying, are there good reasons for the others pulling out? I know most people - well most I know anyway - work on a 'show must go on basis' but sometimes that's just not possible.
-
If it were free tomorrow I could give it an outing to Bognor, but I suspect the logistics of getting it to me and back will make that unworkable.
-
It's been going through changes (and if you've never played there is a bugger to set up in). Apparently the new manager is leaving the 'lease available' boards up all round the building 'til he has made the changes he wants to and is ready to relaunch, but I believe it is all a bit up in the air and definitely worth confirming before you travel.

Nope. Hampshire last night. I think Nik was out & about but it's a bit late now

Not too bad. Last one in the diary for that band to this year unless something else turns up Used the TC BH250 with the Super12T again and it sounded really nice where I was. not so clear on the recording by the recorder but that was probably set to high in the air. A couple of deps, a prog gig and some recording to come. Need to find something else to do

A head and cabs might give you more scope to mix & match. I have been running a Genz Benz Streamliner 6 with a Barefaced Super12T, which is a great rig, though pushing you budget and all bass Then again I picked up a TC Electronic BH250 head recently to run for smaller gigs, and with a view to getting a second cab so that I have another rig I can run the bass pedals through for the proggy gig. I have to say that paired with the S12T is also an awesome sounding rig and was plenty loud enough at the gigs on the last two Saturdays. Markbass are good, and also small & light, but they really won't do guitar as well. For that you might consider something like an Orange Tiny Terror - though again that would need a separate cab. One of the guitarists tonight was talking about getting the new Micro Terror for rehearsals & small gigs in London when he is heading there on the Tube. He used a Blackstar 5W amp & cab at a gig last year and it was great & plenty loud enough.
So your entry in the list now looks something like this... (feel free to amend if wrong!)
That's close enough for jazz -
Just had a look on line. The rules have changed but I think only for small donations. Someone should check with CRUK how they work it. I'm guessing they get a bit more than £5k a year.
There is the potential for them to do a GA claim on small donations, but that is for donations up to £5k pa, and I suspect they get a bit more than that. In any event it is for cash donations of less than £20, so for many reasons collections at gigs that are then paid in through the JustGiving page will not technically qualify for GA. If I make a personal donation of £20 then I can tick the GA box. I was going to say that you will find that there are questions when you get to the donations as to the source of the funds (personal, from a collection from others, for a company) but JustGiving doesn't do that - VirginMoney donations made do, and on the VirginMoney page it confirms that only the personal donations do qualify for GA. SORRY
Hmmm. Not sure how many of the people at my gig pay tax :/ How does that work? Am I somehow donating the tax I've paid?
You can't do it for money collected from others, only for money you give personally

So the L2500's will be coming, at least the fretted one, as will the Streamliner 6 & Barefaced Super12T as I now have a dep that night, thankfully sort of on the way home -
Picked up a BH250 recently and used it for the first time in anger last night paired with the Super12T. Smallish room but against a loud drummer and two guitarists for some classic rock covers (Lizzy Free Bad Co etc) and it easily held its own and sounded awesome. There's my smaller gig rig sorted. Streamliner where I need a bit more POWER. BH250 for smaller rooms. Marvellous!

Gig at a new pub with a dep drummer (known quantity from bands in the past) who did a sterling job and probably made the least mistakes of all of us. I went worrying that the sound guy would have his usual overload of PA gear for a room that didn't need ot, BUT HALLEFURCKINLULJAH just top boxes on stands. See it is possible!!! Took the Streamliner 6 in case, but used the new TC BH250 as a lower powered unit for smaller venues, as intended. It was brill through the BF S12T and easily held its own. Went through the rock covers set, but it had a different feel with a different drummer. Good, just different. Crowd were up for it and the landlord well pleased - we've played for him before at a prevous pub he ran and always had a good night there. Asked him in the break ' when do you want us shut up by?' His response ... 'well your best at the Fountain was 12:40 from a planned 11:45 end so work to 11:15 and play it by ear' Finally finished, having had to redo a couple (by request) as we ran out of stuff we all knew, at around 11:50. So all in all a pretty good one Another one with the dep in Sholing next Saturday, then who knows....
Wouldn't the tax implication only apply to new items purchased in a shop ? If so buy used in a private sale
Nope. Beware the cheapie out replaced by something more expensive. It might / mahe worked for some people in the past, butif you get pulled they have people who know what they are looking at, and you run the risk of confiscation. BTW isn't it funny how people get up in arms about greedy companies legally avoiding tax but are happy to consider evading tax smuggling a misrepresented item through Customs. I do realise that the numbers are significantly different, but still ... just sayin'

So I now have a dep that night, still it's on the way home but may put a slightly different slant on what goes in the car. It'll be a long weekend. Get back from hols the night before (semi sensible hour & should be home before midnight). Load the car in the morning (making sure to include a crate of Red Bull). SEBB all day. Dep on the way home. Rehearsal pre recording later in the week with the prog band on Sunday, and back to work for a rest on Monday :-) -
Had a pair, but there was something wrong with mine and the interfered terribly with out of the guitarists gear, so I gave up and sold them. Other than that they seemed OK The trouble with most of the demo vids for all of these is that there is almost always nothing to give any idea of scale & coverage. I now have a single LED 4 Par bar type affair, which is OK but I/we really need another for a better spread/wash & I'm not about to shell out for another set on my own
The 24th it'll be with me, mark king and andrew levy :-P
Bring them along ... or perhaps not
I've just spoken to Lars, and he's fine with the bass being with James on 24th, and he'll let us know about Dave and Guy when he's been able to talk to both of them (Guy being in Australia at the moment). We were also talking about writing another press release while all this is happening or just afterwards - we both had the same idea at the same time So for the moment, we rock on as planned! \m/ \m/
If its with Jim and free on the evening of the 24th I am gigging in Southampton that night

Good news. Must get over to the Just Giving page If it's back on the South Coast this w/e or next & free I have a couple of local gigs coming up, otherwise that's me for the year
