But actually ending up doing more harm than good in the long run. Every case is different. Like I said before I was sure I had carpel tunnel but I don't . I can only play bass for a small amount of time, maybe two three songs on a shortscale before feeling the effects. I can't even make it to the chorus on daytripper before feeling 'the burn' on a 34"
What sort of symptons? In the run up to getting my shoulder replaced around 5 years backI was finding that with a normal strap my left arm was going numb after a few songs. That was all down to weight on my knackered shoulder transferring down my arm. As a stop gap a Slider strap that distributed the weight of the bass better across both shoulders and my back.
Walman What did you think of the power ball?? Did it do you any good? I tried it but I would suffer big style afterwards. Like you I mentioned it to phsyio's and an occupational therapist and got a blank 'what you talking about' look.
Haven't really got into it yet. The consultant & physio both had no problems with it - mind they possibly did not realise how much strain it can exert once it gets going. The weird thing is I can get it running in my right hand and keep it going, and also move it to my left hand and keep it running, but getting started with the left hand I just cannot do. Used it properly(ish) for the first time last night and could feel the strain after. I think it will be a case of little & often, particularly after the pinkie knuckle & intermediate tendons are done at the end of this month to see how that helps build up grip. But just in gentle stages, not the mad "I can hit 20k" YouTube clips

I suspect it was posted in good faith and £5 is not a huge amount for something that might give some help.........but I would want to go the doctor route as well to make sure there was not something nasty underlying the pain (which after all is your body telling you it's not happy about something) As an RA sufferer who is slowly becoming bionic (left shoulder, right wrist and knuckles replaced and to be done shortly) drugs (prescription) and the knife have made my life, and playing, a whole lot easier, but I know that some of those drugs are pretty toxic and have to be watched. My parents have a friend who was crippled with RA and a visit to a dietician and change of diet has completely turned things around for her and she is off all the RA drugs now. Yet when I went on the local NHS surviving RA course one of the things they said was "diet makes no difference". I tend to differ with that slightly from the foregoing tale, and the fact that I know that orange juice plays havoc with my joints. I picked up a Powerball around the time my wrist was done in February, but didn't think about using it until I had spoken to the physio and consultant - neither of whom had come across Powerballs before, perhaps because no one else had bothered to ask them. So in essence I would say get the book by all means but be very wary of using that on its own if your body is telling you otherwise. ...and finally @hagguy my experience of the knife has been pretty good generally. The shoulder is still tight, but some of that is my fault for not exercising enough (physio reckons the muscles in my neck and shoulders are locked solid). Index finger knuckle kept me out of action in plaster for around three weeks (as I recall). The wrist last Feb was in plaster for two weeks and I was raring to go pretty much as soon as the plaster came off and that and the knuckle were a great improvement. No more grinding of the gears as they move and strength pretty solid now - where it is off I think that is the rest of the hand that is getting done at the end of the month. Now I am a desk jockey and you are in a more manual trade that may put more strain on those joints, but IMO if the knife were offered I'd say go for it.

Back at the Fountain Sat 10 April. It'll be interesting to see how things have changed with the change of management. Rumour has it the money's changed for the worse - not that anyone's bothered to tell the band formally so a check on that when we arrive determines how long we do. Looks like probably a normal 2 x 1 hour rather than the 3 hour mega gigs of old. Ah well......... This followed by the Swan in Woolston on 16 April then out for another month for Op #2 and a dep for me this time. Question is whether to still try to go and do some backing vox or not? It could be difficult transport wise so we'll have to see.

Does anyone know the exact bassline of this?
WalMan replied to skampino's topic in General Discussion
There's actually a really good version of Brown Sugar on Spotify which has been digitally remastered, you can hear the bass a LOT clearer than the original mix. LINK
Sounds pretty much like I'd have guessed/improvised anyway -
Hmm raffle. I'll ask someone about that one and see if they're still up for helping out get back to you all on this one T
At the SE Bash it was a £10 donation towards the cost of the venue and any excess went to charidee - I forget quite how much we made in the end. The raffle was a selection of items donated by members plus a combo & some sets of strings very kindly put up by HartkeUK and a few subs to BGM - we even had a photo and short note in the BGM News section. Perhaps PM Silverfoxnik for ideas as he was one of the driving forces behind the SEBB (along with Hamster, Johnnylager and a few others. Good ideas from that were three rooms, loud, quiet/seminar room and a jamming room with a kit & a couple of drummers who came along on the day
i've been looking at getting an octave pedal recently. after being very pleased mith my compressore, i thought i'd take a look at what mb have to offer. it looks good on paper, with separate octave outputs and a 'dub' switch to just play the affected sound. nobody has had them yet, despite being advertised on their websites. has anybody heard one yet, or does anyone know why they are not available yet ? i have sent a message to markbass, and am awaiting a reply. ta..
Saw the Octave/Synth in action last night at the demo at GAK. It seemed to lock and hold in a pretty solid fashion, certainly a whole lot better than my old BOSS octaver ever did. Quite fancy the Chorus/Flanger too
Yeh - oh well, 46 doesn't feel quite like I'm tottering on the edge of my grave. Well, not every day anyway
46!! TCHAH a mere whippersnapper!! Presumably this was guitards talking. I did a r/h for a dep with a three piece band where I was the baby by a good 20 years a while back & I'll be 51 this year. Your as old as you feel. My lot run up to mid 50's plus and we're still going out giving it some welly. Bit of G'n'R, Whitesnake, Foofighters - anything rawkus really.

Trying to get the fills sorted. No probs once it gets into the song, but the fills at the beginning I can't quite get no matter how I slow it (which doesn't help digitally as it goes wierd & glitchy to slow it down so screws with my ears) Sort of go it but all the tabs I have found (and actually they all seem to be the same one in all the google hits) just doesn't look right to me. Gissaclue someone. It's driving me mad and I've other stuff to 'shed before the w/e as well as this

Stu Hamm Bass Clinic at Dawsons Reading 12th March 7pm
WalMan replied to Hartke_UK's topic in Amps and Cabs
more details here anyone going?
I wish I could, but apart from anything else it's my first gig back since the op (on my wrist ) I would recommend it to anyone who can make it having been to one of his clinics a few years back. Stu puts on a good show with a mix of chat, tales from the road and playing, added to which he was very approachable after the show. -
IIRC from lectures on music business/management and all that, if you're playing and earning money together from gigs, you're assumed to be in a de facto business partnership. That means (among many, many other things) that you're jointly and severally liable for each other's debts until you draw up a partnership agreement that dictates otherwise. If you're talking significant investments -- and it looks like you are -- you should draw up a partnership agreement ASAP. And of course, the partnership and all its members should be submitting an annual tax return.
As above if you are getting to that stage it really is worth getting a partnership agreement set up sooner rather than later. If not you will end up covered by legislation that is over 100 years old. I'm sure everyone has heard of royalties cases like The Smiths, and more recently for A Whiter Shade of Pale, that have rumbled on for years and where probably the only winners are the lawyers. Get everything agreed now while you're all talking, 'cos a few years down the line when the singer has been through the rest of the bands g/f's, the guitarist says he wrote all the songs when everyone elses recollection is that is was a group effort, and none of you are talking except through lawyers a bit of paper that covers the business aspects and was agreed in the good times will be a godsend.

Not snapping up the Wal Pro/Custom in GAK last year (or possibly the year before)
Letting a load of spare covers and inserts to the single my band produced years ago go I know not where when my parents moved from their old house. I've seen them go on Fleabay and advertised elsewhere for £40+ in the past and I still have about 150 in paper sleeves in my garage to drip feed to the market
