1. I feel your pain. Our soundguy has a 24T ADAT that just needs a pair of light pipes from the desk to be ready to go, and do you think I can get him to record more than a gig a blue moon Of course on the odd occasions he does & I do a rough mix the only comment I get is from the drummer, who complains that the cymbals need to come up. Pointing out that he moans like bu99ery when an o/h pair are set up does not get through and I normally have to try to arrange for the recording to happen on the QT anyway as there is always some reason someone feels we shouldn't!? Why we can't just follow the Govt Mule path and record every gig, then pick best versions is beyond me. [/rant]
 2.
Hi Folks, I'm interested in buying a bit of bass gear (a 1 x 10 lightweight cab) on Ebay but it's located in Bath and the seller will only do local pick up... So, I was wondering if any Basschatters could assist me by helping with picking it up and by helping with shipping? Bit cheeky I know but sometimes, needs must! It's an auction so I may not win of course, but equally, there's no point in bidding if I can't arrange to pick up the item! I'd be more than happy to cover all expenses and make a donation to the 'beer & sweets fund' as well for any help received.. Thanks in advance.. Cheers Nik
More toys Nik - standby "cunning plan!
Try one of these - http://www.slider-straps.com/
beat me to it
I tried one of the Slider straps a few years back, when I was having back problems. It didn't work at all for me. It took the strain off the shoulder, yes... but it changed the playing position completely, forcing the bass further round my body so that my fretting hand was having to reach almost behind my shoulder line. Doc/osteo/chiro/whatever, immediately. And the best of luck to ya.
+1 to that but it definitely helped in the short term - that and enduring the p1ss taking "where's your parachute?" "You've forgotten the baby" etc
 4.
I'm not a fan of doctors - well mine anyway and I'll only take pills as a very last resort. I see an osteopath occasionally for my dodgy hip and maybe he could help I dunno. I just wonder if I'm gonna have this permanently if I play a heavy bass.
Not wishing to worry you but I ended up getting my shoulder replaced 3 years ago and it started that way - mind I already had arthritis eating away at bits. That was after using my Wal for 20 years, which is not the lightest of basses, but IMO by no means the heaviest either. I've mentioned it elsewhere but before the op I had ended up using a Slider Strap to get through a night. I have a spare still in one of my cases. If you want to try one PM me Al
 5.
Looks OK, will check it out. EDIT: Maybe not, now I have seen some of the members. ped
let me guess
 6. I've tried, believe me I have, even picked up a load of remastered albums in an HMV sale a couple of years back, but generally I can't make it through an album (and on occasion more than a couple of tracks before giving up and changing it). There are a couple of tracks on Heavy Weather I like otherwise, NO
 7.
I'm sorry if this is a silly question but I have just moved here and don't yet know for myself which might be good places to try and which should be avoided.
Not a silly question at all. Always good to get views on someone you can trust with your pride and joy. Other than that I'm afraid I can't help being nowhere near that area.
If you're really a pansy, there's a stickied list of recommeded repairmen/luthiers at the very top of the Repairs and Technical Issues subforum.
I'm still pansy about it (other than restringing, gentle tinkering with the saddles for action & intonation, and batteries) after 30+ years
 8. I have Roqsolid covers for my MB combo & Epifani cab, but not really what you seem to be looking for. That said look HERE for your Aggi cover, which together with one of THESE might sort of match what you are after.
 9. Beat you to it on the other strings thread yesterday OG
 10.
New shop opened last year in Storrington, nice friendly guys with some interesting stock. Went in there last year and they had a 51P in stock, may be gone by now. GJS Music Shop
Interesting. Another place to wander through. Their website shows 5 Fenders Otherwise GAK have a lot of Fenders, or did last time I was in
 11.
Elixirs are expensive, but last well. They can sound a bit plasticky on basses with wooden necks and phenolic fretboards. They don't seem to do this on graphite-necked basses with phenolic 'boards, though. They sound great on my Warwick Infinity (Zebrano/Ovangkol/Wenge), and were good on my Ibanez SRX700.
They have got a lot cheaper than they were a few years back, for example HERE, and with the extended life worth it IMO. Sound great on my Wal & G&L.
 12. You can find some general info in the Basschat Wiki. For me its Elixirs. Good sound from the off and last for ages with the sound remaining consistent throughout. You do end up with a bit of coating dandruff on the bass if you use a pick. Not tried any of the coloured strings having found and loved the Elixirs a few years back, and having been disappointed on the odd occasion I tried something else since
 13. Not a bad night Saturday at a new (very old) gig for us. Guitarist drummer & I used to play the gig regularly with our old vocalist, but that was probably 18 or so years ago and then it stopped having gigs because of neighbour problems. Stll some fond memories & much reminiscing. Drummers stalker turned up as threatened, which gave us all a laff Second guitarist had his new Boogie combo which was sounding good, and the new expanded bass rig with the second cab was sounding good. Not a hugely full night, but I hope to book some more there as it went well with both the people that came with us and regulars at the venue joining in and wanting more at the end. Major brain fart by the drummer in "Don't believe a Word" when he dropped a complete verse and went into the long break before the bridge towards the end, but we ploughed on and laughed it off. Week off now then back to the Swan in Woolston
 14. Looks to be doing something a bit similar to someone down here on the South coast who has a shop full of assorted vintage stuff. Gave me a clue as to the value of my old Marshall Superbass, which is older than the one he has, but not in such good nick sadly
 15.
Played a session for a local folk band on Sunday

....they're really into digital editing so as long as there was a few good licks they were happy to cut, copy and paste the tracks together, which also gives them a bit more control over how the finished article comes out.
Good lord!! What's the world coming to!? Not a pair of sentences I would have expected to see together, but I suppose time & method moves on for everything. You'll be doing D'n'B/Folk mashups next
 16.
Am I being thick? I can't find you at all- found your personal page but not your music. Help!
Try this - http://www.myspace.com/mdanielsmusic
 17. Yup there are a lot more local ones springing up, but a national one would be good - certainly had a good time last year. And the LA Bass Bash Bus has just had a service ready for the next one as well
 18. Best wishes for a speedy recovery matey Al
 19. Cheers Bar on Bognor seafront and DAMN was it cold & windy to start with but soon warmed up. Did it as a 4 piece as the second guitarist did not know about it somehow. Not the end of the world as we have played in that line up a lot before so can get by easily. It's quite nice to have the sparseness once in a while, but boy does it leave you exposed when an injudicious choice of notes is made. Fairly quiet on the punter side, but that probably wasn't surprising considering the night. They were warm and friendly those that were there. Actually probably;ly no better or worse than last weekend, but I felt better about tonight (even if my stomach didn't after something that disagreed at for lunch) Second outing for the expanded rig with the Epifani cab and it sounded good. The second 12 certainly helps. Next week is the first one back at the Cabin in Elmer/Middleton. Kev Max & I used to play there years ago with our old vocalist doing original stuff (on the A Kind of Fury link below). Happy memories of some great gigs from those days. I just hope they aren't tarnished by going back now!!
 20.
Sorry to hear that Al.. Where's the Bognor gig as I'd like to come to that as I haven't seen you guys for a while and I'm missing my 'White Punks...' fix? We had a really good one at The Elms in Worthing last night, so we're on a run of 3 good gigs in a row now, so going by the law of averages, I expect the next one will be sh*te. I played the whole gig with my Fender Jazz 5 with it's EBS pre-amp and it sounded bloody brilliant... May have to rethink my whole attitude to Active vs Passive basses as a result??
Glad someone had a good one. Friday is Cheers Bar in the Bellevue Hotel opposite the pier (nowhere near as grand as that might sound ) and I think we may be a 4 piece if I understood the tail end of a conversation as I was carrying my gear out.
 21. For me in particular distinctly average bordering sh*te and I played much of the evening like a complete @rse, still most of those there seemed to get into it. Shame for the first one back at the gig in nearly 7 years and at a gig that has seen some great nights in the past, including the last gig with our old vocalist before he emigrated, which I still listen to the tape of once in a while and still chokes me up Overall sound took a while to get there. Bass was there when I was right on top of it but I had to be in just the right spot, though I was assured it was getting through. Not helped by the fact that it was not in my monitors, so I gave up on the 'phones completely quite early on. Vocalist lost his voice towards the end and while he's generally a good front man on a couple of occasions disappeared off into the bottom of the L to the right of the stage for the lead break then stayed there to sing the following verse so we were playing along to a disembodied voice which kind of p1ssed me off. Ah well there's always next Friday in Bognor, but that may be harder work as I think the second guitarist is n/a
 22.
you`re not steve austin are you? (the bionic man/6 million dollar man/lee majors)
well I run in slow motion
 23. And he's a top bloke. Saw him at a Peavey demo evening in Portsmouth a few years back and had a most enjoyable evening. Chat, anecdotes and cracking playing as well as being happy to stand around afterwards & chat.
 24. I had the index finger of my right hand replaced a couple of years back due to its disintegrating with arthritis. I was in a half cast for about six weeks but it was moving and a damn sight less painless almost immediately after I came round from the op. I have a feeling the same hands pinkie will need doing soon and possibly the wrist as well - and while he's about it the specialist might be able to get the two intermediate fingers straightened up too. So far as I am concerned the replacement (and shoulder replacement a couple of years previously) were godsends that have allowed me to get back to pain free playing. I use a pick, did for a lot of years, and have had to go back to one now, BUT that is because the middle two fingers are twisted with the arthritis and get in each others way, as well as the fact that I prefer the sound and attack of a pick for the classic rock covers we do. Good luck and I am sure you will be glad you went ahead afterwards.
 25. I believe they took a price hike last year which doesn't help, but that said I love my CMD121H combo. Run pretty much flat with a hint of the filters and in & out around 9 o'clock it sounds great with my G&L. Just picked up an Epifani 112 from here - tomorrow night will be its first outing - but I may well keep that in reserve for the few gigs we have where it is a house PA & I am not going through it.
