  1. Hi Guys me again I now have the bass and it is strung with high C which i do intend to play like this The tension and sound is really nice so will be trying to identify the current strings and have asked the seller. so the next question to you guys who use Newtone strings on a 32" 5 string with high C, what gauge and type do you prefer This would be for Jazz and Big band work ( just in case you are into tapping and chords) so I would naturally be looking at their Nickel platinum but any experience you have on tension and tapper end and general differences Hex or round core Diamond v Platenum would be appreciated
  2. I know what you're thinking - what the hell is he doing in a Tux with waders on 😁 well it was a silly idea of someone in the band after a recent lockdown recording session where they wanted a comic pic of us all wearing our DJ's but with something funny on the bottom half so thought i would share this prize catch of a CS custom shop 62 P bass relic
  3. It was really nice to see Marvin enjoying the moment, It showed him at his best and what a great artist he was, his tone and control well showcased here
  4. some lessons may help to iron out that dreadful right hand plucking technique
  5. Andy bought my Status Electro earlier this year, He came to me paid Cash. All smooth with good communication. I had met Andy previously when i traveled to his place to try a bass and so can recommend him as a trusted and all round good Egg, on the this wonderful Bass community. Thanks Andy.
  6. Cheers Andy
  7. Thanks guys - have been doing some reading up If I went for a Line6 sonic port type interface can i video and record at same time ? sorry total novice here What is required is video of me playing my part head and shoulders so would like decent bass tone/ recording to go into that video just dont want to spend £ 70 - 80 or more and find I cant do what i want this is on electric bass cheers
  8. Hi Guys excuse me jumping in with next to no experience here But - I have just done a couple of recordings for swing bands during lockdown to click guide track into iphone/ipad using just in built mics which sound crap because they are the size of a pin head and do not do bass frequencies but pick up every high freq noise in the room also found the video on an ipad introduces a clatter sound as if people actually want to see recordings back as though they were using a 70's hand held cine cam. I thought at first it was an internal fan or disc drive these are all solid state aren't they ?? So I then switched to listening to guide track off ipad and record into iPhone, but can't get decent tone as again finger noise, fret noise even picking up hi freq guide track from my ear piece. what should i be doing - as i have another track to record
  9. This amp has now been sold You probably know all about these if looking to acquire one. This is a great amp, and has all the flexibility one needs, My reasons for passing this on, is I simply do not need 800 watts and never did but unfortunately amp manufacturers only heap all the bells and whistles to their top range kit, As our function band played its last Gig on New years eve 2020, It is unlikely i will be playing with two 4 ohms cabs again. So using this into one cab that is rated at 350 watts is a little silly. Cash on collection or bank transfer only cheers. comes with manual and gig bag etc will post to UK mainland in original box - Included Specifications General Amp Type: Solid-State Preamp & Class D Power Amp Wattage: 800 Watts @ 4 or 2 Ohms/400 Watts @ 8 Ohms Power Amp Type: Light-Weight Class D & 8/4 or 2 Ohm Impedance Switch Preamp: Solid-State Indicators: Protection & Limit LEDs EQ/Dynamics Controls: Variable High-Pass Filter (30Hz – 150Hz) Variable Voicing (Flat to Vintage Scoop) Fully Active 4-Band EQ (+/- 12dB of Bass, Low-Mid, High-Mid, Treble) Sweepable (variable) Low-Mid (150Hz-1800Hz) & High-Mid (300Hz-5000Hz) Deep Switch Bright Switch Footswitchable Functions: External Switching Jack for Mute (Footswitch Sold Separately) Convection or Fan Cooling: Fan Cooled Accessories: Gig Bag w/Shoulder Strap Dimensions Height: 2.625’’ Width: 13.25’’ Depth: 10.15’’ Weight: 6.3lbs (2.8kg)
  10. Carvin stockists miss their gear too, bought my Carvin Pro bass 500 from the slough branch, mid 90's i think
  11. Keep It - this gets insane at 6 minuets on
  12. Thanks Kiwi, you couldn't forward me a list of people you know with Graphite necked basses could you. ☺️
  13. Thought you moved for a moment then Owen, or do you just sell your dodgy gear from your holiday home in Norfolk. ☺️
  14. Thanks Guys - the bass is incoming but i believe strung high C at present. I am currently into labella flats on a 62, my 5's are all Nickle 130> D'Adarrio and SIT I was sat going through threads last night and Newtone came up and i have saved their link. Nice to see how much love is out there for shorter scale basses Cheers
  15. Any of you guys have a five string 32" and experience in getting strings with good feel and tension and any preference SS or Nickle Flats or round also low B or high C For Big band and Jazz mainly
  16. Love Boz Scaggs, If you are the wrong age to have known his material in the 70's check him out.
  17. He also said " Fools learn by their own mistakes, wise men learn by other peoples mistakes" my reply when i was about 15 was " I've learnt a lot from you Dad"
  18. NJE is quite right My Dad always used to say "its not what you save that will make you rich its what you spend"
  19. try and avoid GAS at all times it will eat you up far better to spend the money on lessons and be a better player on a shoddy old bass than a poor one on a boutique bass. I am you 30 years on, lots of nice basses but still average on all of them. The only + to you not listening to me is that new gear does get you practicing again 😀
  20. Nice looking basses - No 5's yet though
  21. And I raise you 10 KW
  22. wondered if a Lag would ever come up on here since selling my headless Lag Great basses these and a very good price for a hand made bass by Lag
  23. I also got a call this week to stand in on a monthly jazz jam, and received favorable comments back, a boost i needed I did start a thread on here a little while back about being disillusioned with these gatherings, but its like swimming you cant learn from the bank you need to get in there and maybe have a couple of scares along the way. Now my confession - I turned down the chance of future jazz gigs this week with a combo that work regular with good guest players invited in, because I didn't feel my walking is up to that standard expected by these guest players with reference to voice leading etc. The punters may not notice but jazzers will. This is down to practice and time spent perfecting the art, or lack of it and listening to jazz standards which i do not. until i have to. So i would like doff my cap to Bassace who i have seen playing , be it a few years back, but he does have his s ~+*t down, and thats where i need to be. So having now been re-enthused by this thread I will take my own advice and say I will do the gig, whats the worse that can happen. So yes back to P J I Agree with Bassace you will need an iPad and download real and unreal books and ireal pro will save a lot of time and you can transpose and save them to a set list. In UnrealBook on your iPad you can photo chord sheets or music from elswhere and save a PDF to read which can be handy rather than have loose sheets about.
  24. My Gear Cull continues with My Status Electro bought on here from Tim in N.I. about 7 - 8 years ago I have made some changes to suit my needs these are - A John east pre-amp made to buffer between the Piezo and Mag pickup ( volume, blend, bass/treb' , para/ mid.) the original Status pre-amp will be included. I have tried just about every nylon coated string available and settled on Labella clear wrap nylons currently installed. any black ones i have tried will be included. These strings involved changing the nut/string guide and now has a Yew string guide. The original machine heads would not take the larger string diameter of nylon wrap strings down the center hole so it now sports a set of new Hipshot's that do. As you can see the bass is a great example with a fantastic quilted maple top, Body is Walnut, correction Mahogany, Rosewood board. There is some play ware but nothing major, a small swirl on back of neck but you cant feel it, also some button rash on the lower bottom edge at the back. 48mm nut width, 17mm string spacing at bridge, weight 8lb 3 oz Prefer collection as I have no case or bag for this at present as it shares one with another bass depending on which gets the gig. UK only please sorry

  25. I think it is a characteristic of flats and string size, 85 to 105 the larger E just doesn't behave the same as the next string up and being a flat doesn't have the harmonics a round wound has from the wrap vibrating over the pole pieces. I have La Bellas on my P and the A string sounds amazing the E is good but is shown up by the other string. have you tried La Bellas clear wrapped nylon coated strings, I have these on my Status Electro they feel smooth but as they are rounds inside they still have some harmonic bite and tone
