Over a year ago when i first replied to this post - and guess what, I am running the PAT test course this week. Though that won't help you its fully booked. but its about £350 if ya interested That said I do not believe you need to have done this course to be deemed competent, although it would be the best evidence to show you are. It is about due diligence so a spark should be fine. You know what to look for that could be dangerous, Inspection is the key part, the test with the machine will prove things you can't see. PUWER regs 1998 places a duty on people and companies who own, operate or have control over work equipment. a) suitable for intended use b) safe for use and maintained in a safe condition C) Used only by persons who have received adequate training (could be used to get rid of your guitarist) d) accompanied by suitable H&S measures I think this is the reason, not an MP wife For the Record on another PAT testing thread I did point out that Showaddywaddy had a gig cancelled when local council officials turned up to inspect there certs, and found PA etc in dangerous condition. I expect the crew were trying it on with the local venue staff. If you are receiving money to play you are being employed. If you run the band, The law may see you as the manager of your outfit and the one to answer in court for the death of a guest or musician who gets electrocuted.

I was planning to go down this route but not confident i know an original from a Bitsa bass. take an expert with you. The price will be more like £4 - £8k for a good genuine 62. I would rather play a Bravewood or Nash than be shafted a couple of sites to check out. good luck. http://davidjpym.com/page459.html http://www.guitarhq.com/fender.html

The wife Hoovering is my worry - but always have a bass out in my study. and its strictly off limits, to Mrs OCD I even empty my own bin. Also just started taking lessons again to get a few more tools in the toolbox.

SOLD Fender Custom Shop Precision '62 Relic Faded Surf Green
deepbass5 replied to Kevsy71's topic in Basses For Sale
That is nice Having recently bought a sunburst version of the 62 relic P I must stop looking and if any of you are wavering as to whether a CS is worth twice the price of CIJ reissue. IMHO the selection of seasoned tone-woods in these and in particular the quarter sawn neck is where all the money is for me. Lovely basses someones gonna be a happy bunny- 12 replies

Ya the fat lady sings

Is it me, or is this moronic messing about with the tune justified. For the uninitiated you play through a jazz standard and at some point someone will suggest playing fours meaning the combo will play the first four bars then the drummer will be free to improvise alone over the next four bars, this will be reaped every four bars until the number is no longer recognisable. I added that last bit but you have probably gathered I'm not a fan of this What is your take

I think this shows it is easier to step on a compressor as and when you want to - than tick a box to let the world know how about those that may use their compressor after the sound check just to fosters the guitarist off
-
Answer any aggressive styles - Funk / Disco occasionally for me, - so any number requiring the thumb, as I find it does not sound right without it - to balance the high and lows, other effect pedals down the line used on these songs also benefit from the compressed signal. If i did record i would prob use it then also

A lot of wisdom their Phil, and have to say agree with all of your analagies A good designed speaker will always be a good designed speaker, physics dictates most of that, and our basses, amps and fingers and ultimately our ears will colour how much we like the sound. with current materials and CAD should allow us to build the definitive best bass cab. Maybe someone has, many claim this. My beach is that those large companies with the R&D budgets then spend ££££'s advertising to the uninitiated that their budget range of cabs are every bit as good as their most expensive range Best cab i have ever had TechSoundsystem 4x12 neo 1200w 4 ohm great for marquee's- civic halls, now using an Acme 1x12 every bit as good but don't need the coverage and trouser flapping

For me it needs Have a comp on my board but only use it for specific numbers/styles other than that i would be a I am in a band but compression is not my thing to be honest I would rather have nothing between me and the amp

Anyone here use floor pedals? As in keyboard type pedals?
deepbass5 replied to leschirons's topic in General Discussion
As a four piece after we lost our Keys player thought it a good idea to get some root chord tones going under my bass lines bought a bass organ pedal unit you know the sort of thing about an octave came in a suitcase - that lasted about one rehearsal and a few weeks at home trying to rescue some cred. Then down the secondhand music shop it went - toneknob comments spot on you need three legs as well as two heads -
My main concern would be them thinking collectively or individually that the PA can be borrowed anytime for projects, Reputation - going out as a ramshackle band could be detrimental to your following and street cred as a local band in its ascendancy if that is a Risk in your case. Dep - Most good established working bands use deps, I would be relieved that they haven't in this case, just in case - younger, better looking, better player and hangs better with the lads Chill - see this as a chance for them to realise all the things you add to the outfit, get a close friend to attend anonymously to check out the performance. make sure they are aware about your concerns for using the PA as a one off.

Thought I'd add to this what i can from my experience 1st class D i got was Markbass LMK ordered at a show about 12 years ago, had to wait for the new kid on the block. It was great never let me down or left me wanting in over ten years with various cabs 2nd was an GK MB500 fusion as back up to the LMK . great amp used mainly for rehearsal and jazz. Great warm amp. EQ presets didn't really suit my cabs ? or basses? to be 1st call. change of cabs to two Acme 4 ohm, left me looking for a stereo amp with 2 ohm capability. bought an SWR SM-500 on here to cover the gigs where two cabs were req. Then got a Mesa Subway D800 to take the strain. Bomb proof design and great depth of tone, Just got the Mesa D800+ for the added footswitch mute and tuner out, also greater EQ flex, Gas again + grass greener etc. So verdict is I would be happy gigging any of these. Gas is the only reason apart from Ohms loading that pushed me to change. Some amps EQ centers suit certain basses and cabs better. and may be able to respond better to room E.Q ing. some shops let you try at home / gig well worth doing if you can. It is the only way to be sure. N.B. An old mosfet amp with a 4x10 cab will always feel good but your back will prefer the class D

Just wonder what sort of music you are playing, Are you all playing at sensible levels and can hear each instrument I have been in some awful rehearsal rooms with hard walls and huge amp and cabs, and you come out with your ears ringing. So if this is the case find one that works for your band. a dead room will give you a chance to hear what is going on and you will not sound so bright but will need more power in the bass and low mids but that sounds like what you are seeking. On the other hand is your amp / combo up to the job, size of speaker - watts. are you struggling

Hi Guys Needs some help on a very fast version of Can't buy me love by Mr Buble. I read fairly well and could do this with the dots written out, but cant impro white space from Chords fast enough to make a good job of this. I have the chart and if you can pick something out of this and write a bass line over the chords, I would be very grateful. not expecting note for note If you fancy this challenge drop me a PM with an e-mail address and I'll fire the chart over.

Can we have a date and a venue then you will know where you really stand. I am interested but dates are key here, half those listed may drop out on a particular date, but twice that may opt in on another. It'll 2019 soon

Nice to hear of good service where ever it happens In 38 years I have not been a D'Addario user, But last year was given some with a purchase. And have noticed since that most basses sold on here are photographed with these coloured ball ends, that must say something. and also notice since putting these on my bass

Hofner I feel is more 2CV And I wouldn't want to play a Limelite in the rain - with vacuum operated wipers But guess most on here haven't driven one of these on the M4 in a thunderstorm

From experience rather than sitting down and considering the scientific view what is happening. I have found volt drop does affect the volume and bass end in particular as this is power hungry. I have experience this several times over the last 30 years on Function band jobs in Marquees usually when the power supply is via a long lead from the house or hotel supply also on generated supplies when other loads are also being drawn off the same cable - caterers, discos, heating lighting etc are using lots of power. Basically Power - Watts = Volts x Amps long cables mean high resistance to that flow and voltage drops off at the far end so you can draw less power out. back to your point I have experience this within a buildings ring main, when beer chillers are running dips when they cut in or the kitchen is right next door and are using lots of power, and noticed the increase in normal power and volume settings when kitchen staff have gone home
