1. Nice to see so many European manufacturers attending this year Can we get the Rheingold Boys to do a spot next time https://youtu.be/1o6XKBSjgwI https://youtu.be/VawvBE8zaD4
2. My original price reflected my love for it and cost of the bag, and is so much more useful than the standard single channel - So would a drop to £430 tempt anyone make me an offer cheers for looking Trades a Pram Dinghy yes thats right a small row boat
3. Forgot to say price includes this quality padded gig bag i bought for it, holds all the Amp cables and more
4. Thanks Tony - now sold subject to meet up etc. next up will be the Mark bass LMK for you doubler's, will check it over and try and sort photos later today. on a fresh post.
5. Sold I seem to have four Amps which is a little O.T.T, so two have to go. First up the GK MB fusion 500 Great little amp to grab on your way out of the door, so has been my go to amp for most of my Big band rehearsals over the last couple of years, and a few Jazz gigs. Full working order well looked after and comes with a padded computer bag. just big enough to keep it snug and take the wires. foot switch and cable included but not used in anger. yours for 425 posted to you in UK.
6. They were the first band i got into big time, think i have every album - my rebellious youth period i guess, can still sing along to all the words. who couldn't fall in love with "Changes" great lyrics at an age when no one loves or understands you ------- That's the album version by Ozzy not his daughters rendition of course
7. Spot on as usual Chris, before looking at the replies i was just thinking about the music played on the Radio in the late 50s early 60s and it was very safe. Roger Whitaker, The Seekers with Puff the magic dragon thrown in for the kids. and American standards were the norm until Brit POP really took off. To answer my own question - we didn't have a record player in the house until my Sister got one in her teens, Then Motown hit me and I think I was destined to play bass from then ten years before I ever picked one up. Ain't No Mountain high enough just blew me away, despite being a brass player at the time it was the descending bass line and bass counter melodies that hooked me. and thanks Lowdown, its probably only a matter of time before that appears, well I am just gonna switch the amp on and get back to it.
8. Like most questions in life you know the answer but its easier to think there is some external influence working against you. I had decided to get down to some serious shedding on the number last night, but my mind wasn't in the right place. It was easier and more enjoyable to switch on the computer and moan to you guys. There is a lot of unison parts in this piece so the Bass is playing the same phrases as the Keyboard, Baritone and trombone section. If you are out it is pretty obvious. I'll check that book out - tinyd I added the John Patitucci clip because I recalled how smug he had looked having nailed that particular number As you say you don't get that without putting the work in.
9. As i sit here desperately trying to play the Gordon Goodwin arrangement of MUEVA LOS HUESOS I pose the eternal question to you, as a "white boy" an old "white Boy" at that, am i just the wrong colour or ethnic Anglo Saxon mix to be playing Latin. God knows i've have had enough trouble over the years trying to master some the Blues derived music of our African American brothers, I often feel i lack the groove of those Jazz, RnB and funk artists I have grown to admire. But I get by. But Latin !! i just can't feel it, i can't count it either. Is it genetic or can it be taught, or is it more about being immersed in that music and soaking it up over time. Your comments please https://youtu.be/dRjzCKJN6sM https://youtu.be/IWBkVucVMCY another jem in the pad - some make it look easy,
10. That first clip was amazing you can actually see the D string oscillate to the frequency of the note as a sine wave up and down the board, the scale length of the double bass adds so much to the sound and harmonics, just cannot be duplicated on a 34" electric, however much we try and boy I have tried most things. great clips thanks for sharing
11. Great bass sounds available, nearest i have ever got to an upright. seeing The Squaronaires bass player use it live made me get one. Sort of Royal approval to play synthesized electric bass in a Big Band Have a bump from him 43 sec in https://youtu.be/0sfnAvFzDjw
12. There are some very good players in the former Yugoslav' countries, great jazz festivals too and bar music to be found, on talking to the bands many of them are working the Croatian coast because that's where the work is and they are in Europe. It also attracts many eastern European muso's as well who can drive down there. I'm booked up for another holiday and will be enjoying their local wine and Jazz again this year enjoyed the clip, have always loved local traditional music - a good find - he knows his way round that bass I must check out these guys when i am there at some point http://www.wreckguitars.hr/
13. As i have a very nice picture of mine waiting for me under a spot - I'll share the moment with you. and i played a blinder
14. I didn't really hear anything as you described, But look into what Howie suggested, but also is the bridge saddle screws making good contact with the base plate, some saddles i feel are too close together and if one screw is up and one down the saddle wants to twist and the saddle either side prevents this and the result is poor contact on one screw only. This alters the tone. just go over all the little Allen keys with a light touch to check if they are all taking the same strain. Good luck.
15. could be a loose wrap, I have had this and returned them to Rotosound, they will deny problems exist as all manufacturers will, but probably replace it FOC. If you don't wish to do this - could try twisting the string from the headstock end in the direction of the wrap with the ball end in the bridge and refit silk end to tuner. I know this is what you try and avoid doing when putting on new strings but it may prove a point. I have done this just one full rotation seems to do the trick.
16. took her to see Donny and Marie at Bournemouth, there were loads of old people there with grey hair, I went to the loo looked in the mirror thought mmmm snap
17. I am with Grandad and Ed. If you are in the business off entertaining, Customer satisfaction should be your main focus, If you are playing for money you are by definition "professional" even if just that night. So you should collectively sound, look and present yourself professionally. On and off stage. OK so you look and sound good on your web site, you now have one foot in the door to being booked Do you then turn up like the cowboy builder with a smoking 25 year old transit van and gear with knotted leads and cables pulled out the terminals. Its like a cowboy plumber who puts his tool box down in your kitchen and says "cuppa tea would be nice love" Would you be happy with the builders bum ripped jeans and rusty tools or would you rather pay the professional going rate for a Corgi registered guy trained and insured. Pat testing is about demonstrating you have a risk assessed approach to safety of electrical apparatus that can be damaged because it is portable. An extension lead under your computer desk is unlikely to get damaged so a competent person could judge it be tested 3 yearly. But an extension lead used on stage each week will work harden so the cores will stiffen and break over time. people will stand on it and it will be run over and pinched by heavy objects. I have probably said enough, I am a spark i have bought my own PAT tester to do band kit, so i don't kill someone, I have public liability insurance so if a drunk at a wedding knocks the PA over on to someones Granny I'm covered. Ain't aint cheap to run a gigging band that cares
18. Is this a physical issue, as above - technique or maybe high action and pressure required left hand, or you have fallen out of love with your bass and hand issues have convinced you a change is required. My only advice would be get another bass player friend to look at the set up action does this need attention. Now for La Bella white nylons, I have just put these on my Status electro having had the blacks on for a year or more. These are great strings and did make a real difference to my bass but make sure the action is low so the tension and compression in the neck from bridge to nut is under control, i believe these made the bass sound better. If the action is wrong too high the neck will bend and take all the strain and sound and action will be even worse. This goes for any type of string but more important with heavy higher tension sets.
19. Some good points you are making ref the gear we can justify. Like most here, GAS has taken hold at times and I have always bought basses i like or lust after that may have led people at times to assume i am a better player than i am. It is in the back of your mind. But whether bass, Amp or Cab I feel, if i have eliminated the gear from the equation - bought the best, I can't blame it. I am then only crap because i have not practiced enough. I have also talked myself out of getting the latest gear and to spending the money on Lessons. but it doesn't last long
20. Now there's a sideline, Tornado shelters in Orange
21. There's a thought if you can't sell your gear on here, just find a local disaster spot and go lay down your gear and take a few shots and claim on the insurance
22. I came across this about a year ago via a Buddy Rich composition video with Hakim on drums - so here you go 4 masters - Bass players not bad. do wait for the bass solo https://youtu.be/JixfzsQWZ8c
