1. Just ordered a copy of Louis Bellson's Modern Reading Text in 4/4. Thanks Guys. Reading coplex rythmes has always been my weak point never seemed to have had any formal training on it, well not for 40 years. My sight reading is pretty good but if anything will trip me up it's runs of semi's tied and dotted intermingled with rests
2. God there are an awful lot of videos on the tube on this subject, So I'm gonna bow out of this debate for my sanity, attached is a clip explaining the science behind the anti tone wood campaign, https://youtu.be/svmOQuNC1Uw But what he did not explain or go into was the harmonic content of the wave he referred to as timbre, This is the tone signature of the component parts Neck, body, bridge nut etc. Harmonics give us a reference signature from which we learn and recognise different sounds. So basically my point is - If you can tell the difference of a note - e.g "C" played on a piano and that same note (frequency/pitch) played on a trumpet and clarinet, Bass guitar. We can all Identify all those instruments blind, So it is not just wavelength and frequency, It is the harmonic information that is telling the brain this is a clarinet, it may be harder to identify a note played on an Alder bass with maple neck made in the 50's,60's,70's,80's,90's, etc but we could differentiate the difference, good bad and indifferent. Could a cheap £200 P bass copy ever bark and burp like a neck through Warwick thumb made of Wenge and bubinga ???
3. Tell the wife not to panic - my son has agreed come with me - he says he has Oysters for the train so I won't even have to bother with lunch - aren't kids great
4. Trawling internet there are loads of entries on the topic of tone woods - here is one that asks that question. But more interestingly check out the comments http://www.notreble....our-bass-sound/ Also worth a listen https://youtu.be/UjHpVGMaleM
5. I agree, I think that is where they got the idea from, but some designs have now lost the plot

9. I have more than a slight issue with "artists" who prostitute themselves from company to company, Gear that was the Dogs whatsits last week can't just become stttty* gear the next week. Thomas Eich dealt with me personally over an issues with my gear which he resolved even though he was on Holiday at the time, The mark of a good company is how they resolve issues that crop up from time to time. I am sure he will make the right decision and the right statement at the right time. Don't want this to become another SWR story - Please
10. I believe you are right to blame the wood, The reason the hand build custom bass luthiers hand pick their timber and ensure it is the best seasoned material is because they understand that this is the fundamental building block of the bass tone just as a tuning fork resonates loudly when placed on a solid surface. The body and neck woods are key to how well the bass will resonate. I also believe that playing the instrument - any instrument wood or brass will help align the molecular structure withing the material just like stroking a nail with a magnet to align its molecules to form a north and south pole. Instruments get better with age and that means exposing them to the range of frequencies they need to propagate a good tone. Every mass production bass line will have good basses and lemons, which is why you should always try as many as possible, you may want a salmon pink bass but the blue or black one in the shop may be the better bass.
