AER would be nice to compare to the other kit there, maybe take one away with

Musky - just what i was thinking.

One is a mid scoop arround 300 Hz but lifts bass and treble either side progresively as you go higher. keep the four main knobs at 12 and just use this to get an idea what it can do. the other is for high cut shelving so you can get a vintage on flats sound

I could never pinpoint why i liked his music but he seemed to have a knack of not getting in the way of it, if that makes sence just very easy listening, and you always want to return to it again and again.

Always loved Boz Scaggs and don't feel his contribution to popular music in the 70's was fully recognised, he was a musicians musician and worth checking out his back catalogue. Thanks bub, this sounds like he is seeking out what got him into the business. It sounds like - As the years go passing by http://youtu.be/gIkOaTVu8uM http://youtu.be/vDidE0uVpjA

As Gary stated I have also just tried the Status half wounds they are very good quality and £20 cheaper than the Roto ground wounds which are really rough - I did used these for years and was happy but don't know what is going on at Rotosound at the moment I have had several issues, but would say try Status half wounds before going flats I have been there thomastik infeld great string but one dimension no way you are going to slap them. Elites Stainles are good, my other favourite now is GHS nickles. I have just bought some Carvin nickles from bassgear to try at £23 and will get some Status nickles to try after that. As i have recently found price is not a reliable indication of quality.

Big Band gig - first time I have used my MBass on a reading jazz gig, but I had recently put on a set of Status ground wounds and it sounded awesome so thought I’d go for it. I also took the twin Berg to frighten the brass players instead of the usual wizzy M-line. Well it had to be done - I’m just a bit pissed about playing a Maynard Ferguson version of Birdland where the Bass is left with bugger all to do. And it is now a trumpet feature. What’s that about?

Mine is the same, No probs at gig volume, It is the physical size and angle of the blades I have a 1u rack mounted PA amp with two fans like this and they sound the same. It isn't a fault with your amp.

Driver recommendations for SEALED cab for double bass.
deepbass5 replied to JohnOH's topic in Amps and Cabs
John, Bill, excuse me jumping in on this one but I have a spare EA wizzy 12" speaker i bought when i thought my EA wizzy Mline speaker was shot, it turned out to be a connection problem on my amp - now resolved. If I was to make a sealed box for this, for ease of condstruction is there a known volume i should work to, are they Eminance? If so would they or EA be the best people to give me the volume. Or is the actual origins of EA's wizzy a closely guarded secret Bill. -
Markbass LMK usually gets the gig over the GK MB500fusion. But the Berg does like the valves though.

Bass mix in live concerts.... Disappointing?
deepbass5 replied to lowendgalore's topic in General Discussion
I thought it was just me - I rarely go to arena sized gigs now due to bad experiences - all kick drum and floor tom blooming over the entire mix. The worst some years back was Lionel Richie - Now there are some great bass lines in his back catalogue - but I never heard a note he played for the very loud floor tom and kick drum. I was sat next to the mixing desk smack in the middle of the arena if I had a pen and paper I would have passed him a note without leaving my seat, so it wasn't where I was sat. Kick drum should be supporting the note the bass is playing to punctuate and give the note energy - great when someone does get the balance right. -
I would rather spend the money on lessons

http://www.10outof10.co.uk/ found everything i needed to make up my own leads, and as an electrician found these are very good quality components compared with what you will find in local stores

Conservative club in Oxford - we wore purple ties and the singer a matching purple dress. no one said a word - they seem to be accepting the colour now

Just wondered about door men, yep those big guys in black. Do they stand in the rain all night for free because they enjoy knocking people about . I expect they get paid for providing that service. If they didn't provide door men the council may not renew their drink licence. I don't see why you should put up with this if it is your primary source for musical outlet. I play in a big band for nothing in fact i pay £30/month towards hall fees and MD. I treat this as part of my ongoing musical education. We get petrol money for gigs and I get £50 if i provide the PA. but when asked to play pubs my 4 piece function band quotes our normal fee, and hey, we haven't had to do one yet, but we are supporting you guys by trying to raise the fees and upholding the value of live music.

Town pubs make a lot of money we are not talking country local pubs with just three punters on bars stools and a dog in the corner, If i was playing pubs I would be getting in touch with the other bands in Town and work together to raise the fee. You have to set £50 / man as a minimum to cover expences even if you treat it as a subsidised hobby.

How about Trevor Barry - from the Strictly dance Band. Would be good to hear how he approaches sight reading all those new charts each week at short notice. We should support british session guys rather than fly in Mr Stevens again next year. Neil Murray would also get 1+ from me good suggestion Dude

It is called an Ebow an electrical device that excites the string to vibrate so like an Electronic bow , so you can hold notes

Well Discreet thats one of the best demo's i have seen for quite a while, cheers Back to GAS, On suggesting i was thinking of buying another bass my wife had the audacity to suggest that its not about the bass its the player, and if i havent found the right one by now i never will. Honestly what do they know

I have been trying some different strings lately and come up against a few set up issues mainly due to the difference in tension, black nylons to half wounds and nickle to stainless. I like a low action and finding i am get fret buzz on basses that didnt previously. adjusting trus rods to suit is a fag and can take many days to settle in. So i think i am heading back to the GHS nickles on two main basses and back to nylons on the Status.

Like the guys above a handful of times over the last thirty years. But have to say we have always come out of it OK by using MU contracts. Two that stick in my mind was one when we got paid in full then sat and watched the band that got there first. The other was watching my miss's fronting up to the other bands female singer both claiming "we have been booked for months", and the look on their faces when she pulled out the contract all signed and dated, the venue then agreed we were to play. same goes for finishing times and breaks not to forget the ££££. oh and the blue M&M's On one occasion we stood in for a band at short notice, but we were booked to be there again in two weeks anyway, so they then said they would cancel that date. We said no, we have no way of getting another gig at that short notice and they would have to pay us. They refused so basically we never played there again on principle and cancelled our other dates in writing with copy to the MU. sometimes you have to know when to walk away so not to allow the band name to be damaged right or wrong.

The Laurence Cottle Big Band yep the whole lot, to make up for two years ago when he had a lone spot and was forced to huddle over a piece of music on a bass bin on the corner of the main stage So the spot would be - The electric bass and its place in todays big band music - Laurance can have a guest upright player and the band can play miller standards interlaced with Gorden goodwin or some Lincoln jazz arrangements or even Buble~ and he can discuss and take questions on how each instrument ( Electric bass and upright) is best placed for the arrangement - covering EQ, ballance and the arrangements. Bust a few myths and generally educate us. Please make this happen. if only as a ballance to the slap fest outside in the demo hall

Be nice to buy a messa boogie valve amp - if there is one in the country that day at the right price
