1. Example - just ordered some Roto 555LD from my local music store because I had a £15 gift voucher to spend there. The only reason they cost me £46.99 £10 more than strings direct. So by supporting my local music stored by birthday gift ended up worth £5. oh and I had to wait 3 weeks.
2. Hi Julius You are showing you have a Carvin R600 in my view still a creat amp despite modern trends, these have a compressor built in with threshold - the point at which you want comp to start being effective and a Ratio - the amount of squishing you want to do. 3:1 was often used as a good start position for bass. But depending on the material played for recording you need gentle comp for live slap pop quite a lot. before buying a pedal for other amps try and get an idea with the Carvin. may be it will get the gig in future. You can read up on soft knee and hard knee, and how many milli seconds of the attack to let through on programable compressors but you will just disapear up you jacksie, In live situations a 1 knob or two knob built in comp is fine.
3.
Puked on some of the audience. I'm not proud.
You mean you didnt choose or single anybody out from a particular class or background. random is good
4. On a lighter note - As a trombone player in a functions band I was stood on the end centre stage next to the singer - now the wife She was dressed in a white Elvis cat suit with tassles. (yes we still have it) We were about to launch in to playing shawadywaddy - who put the Bomp in the bomp-a-bompa-bompa whatsit . And with full stage presents accentuated the "do da wop" with her left hand catching my trombone water key in a tassle on her wrist - and fired my trombone slide out into the audience. I was horrified to think of it being trappled under foot but it was fine. still makes us laugh now.
5. septicemia - I had an insect bite behind my knee and it had got bad looked like a waffle was on penicillin but you know nothing is going to stop you playing half way through a corporate Gig at the madejski stadium Reading I was about to pass out as this poison had got up to my gonads, time to stop Played CD's last set and went straight into Doctors emergency centre on way home. He had a look told me to double the dose of penicillin and go to outpatient clinic in the morning. good news nothing fell off
6. Bought some organ bass pedals for this very application, learnt two things falling over on stage and needing a stool to do this properly is not cool. down the secondhand music store they went. controllong the volume in balance with the bass was another issue
7. Love green basses, but of course everyone knows Red basses are the loudest
8. Stratford on Avon - 90 mile hike, left at 3:30 set up by 6:30 managed to get drummer and guitarist in the van. Good crowd about the 5th time we had played for them in last ten years. Hotel brought coffee and tea to our dressing room then sarnies and big bowl of chips 3 hours later we are on. Good news is we now stop at 12 not 01:00 as per contract In bed by 03:00 now to empty van 11:20Sun
9. Had this bad on my left elbow fretting hand, But as "thisnameistaken" check out what else is causing it as well as bass playing. Computer work leaning on desks while working etc etc. and rest rest rest, stop and change habits I am fine now but went on for couple of months. Also lifting gear and using elbows to open doors - bad news
10. I thought 3 was too many - but i do have bad GAS right now that may see and change in my line up
11. PM me next time, I have a guitaist friend in Wantage who needs to get out more he keeps theatening to start playing again. I was amused at the thought of 4 bands all arguing who was to be sent to Faringdon to see you, and drawing lots. -- oh alright I'll go =
12.
Just in from a good night in Faringdon. Went down very well, and afterwards we were told there were members of 4 different bands in the audience checking us out. Glad we only found that out afterwards and not before.
"Just in from a good night in Faringdon" !! thats a contradiction in terms Dave
13. At last, a bass i can swap the wife for and know one will notice
14. The reason for me buying the Markbass LMK when it came out was two channels so I could switch between two different sounds and have my VLE set different on each. one for finger style 60's motown, general pop and the other channel for funkier numbers with the VLE at 1 0clock. But they stopped making them idiots
15. Agree with all above as with Lozz I feel in a live band situation i head for the Markbass most gigs ( function band and rock n roll stuff) it cuts and has a air to it that lets the harmonic content breath. MB500 fusion gets used a lot for practice and jazz gigs spade loads of warmth with the three valves you can get glass too but easy to loose your mids and over scoop it. I Find it more difficult to plug and play with the GK at volume but could just be me messing. Molan hasn't mentioned the Carvin class D amp. worth checking at the price. has graphic and comp and valve and para and yes i am still very tempted to give up my GK for the extra Para and graphic oh and 2 x 12 as well from me
16. I think i got mine from thomann as well cheapest place i could find. couldn't believe that Warwick were so much dearer and the middle man was lower ???
17. Try ground wounds first best of both worlds I used them for years
18. If bass guitars could breed, they would all look like this in about 4,000,000 years a piece of bas history
19.
Is that the ex-OldGit Shuker 5?
Yes it sure is - very proud to be playing it - Hope Si' approves
20. Wedding - and a hall with a traffic light sound limiter - First number BANG! So plugged in next room great, but the hall lights were also wired in, to come on when the level was reached.
21. I feel have the right temperament if you can say that, I love it with a passion but I am not a natural I have to work very hard at it. I Consider myself average after 30 + years with no chops just head full of melodic support lines.
22. Having been playing dark stages for many years, I was very happy to buy a Shuker 5 with side lights. It was the main reason for the purchase and it has now become my main bass. But personally would not want a bass with front facing lights
23. Well I agree we are mad, but weddings, golf club or charity balls / Masonic dinners- we play typically hour and a half first set unless food or a raffle stops us with about 15 min break to change from monkey suits to coloured shirts then back for another hour or so. We have been known if the dinner over runs not to break at all and have done two hours straight on many occasions. The wife works out the sets for the particular function we are playing, we do skip numbers depending on the crowd but also have an extras list to swap out those that may not work on the night. The set published above was largely chosen by the bride from our master set on the website. Which is always a bit scary
