1. Some years ago whilst performing Patsy Gallant's From New York to LA, well I dropped my guts - really bad. The opening vocal line on the verse ended with an Ahhhhh. And as my bottom gas rolled of the stage like dry ice the people dancing below the 4" high stage all went Phwooor in time with the vocal Ahhhhh. Still brings tears to my eyes now
2. mmmmm. just put on Missouri sky in respectful meditation
3. Fantastic i'm gonna live for ever
4. I agree a 5 string is a different instrument than a 4 string and needs to be considered as such when selecting one. 35" will make a difference but all mine are 34" a lot of good advice in the video but i also think bridge anchorage and nut material as well as machine head position and neck wood selection all play a part. My advice would be go to a specialist bass shop and try some high end basses to know what a good one can sound like then try and find one as near to that sound as you can afford
5. Last Month caught Hamilton Loomis in Oxford this time he had a certain Mr Weir on Bass and was playing an MB800 fusion with some wild settlings that i would not consider but worked for him. so just jumped on the Tube to see if he was on there, link attached but he is not playing the 800 in the clip. But if they are still touring worth catching as they were as tight as i have seen them. Great bass player. The thing with the 800 because of the LED knobs you can work out the settings including knobs that are pulled. He played with bass rolled off 10o'clock but with deep pulled. and with low mid rolled off about the same, then high mid boosted about 2 oclock with the High at about 1 o'clock also pulled. The contour was also pulled and well over at about 3 oclock. Of course don't know what the house sound man was doing with his signal. check them out http://youtu.be/Hu78aqTTwmQ
6. It's only a bass while its being played which is prob why he is selling it, he forgot he had it.
7. This is the craziest pastime Sibob, but interested enough to rip mine from the board this morning and have a look. ( 194400) Japan so pray tell what date is this one
8. Just to note I did like the 750N's a lot when i had a Rob Allen but they are thick heavy strings sounded great on that bass but since going over to a Status Electro 5 string I bought status black tape wound £25 cheaper I also tried GHS which were fatter than the status and higher tension than the Status - and not as musical to my ear so went back to the Status strings - watch out that your machine head hole can take the Dia.of the La bella as the modern light weight tuners are not as forgiving as the old open fender type. oh i also had to file my nut to get the GHS on my bass and as the La bella are even thicker you may be into some DIY
9. Yep - great bass so many great numbers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEjU9KVABao&list=RDCEjU9KVABao&feature=share
10. very good - had to ask myself after watching this - why do i have three 5 strings
11. Just order everything i need and more to replace old work hardened leads for my bass amps and active PA. so thanks for H07 tip. Top marks for http://www.10outof10.co.uk Who not only had everything in stock but good quality too and it arrived in just over 24 hours. So they live up to their name.
12. Have not done it but as string gauge changes can play up the relief on a 5, I would think such a drastic change will entail a trus rod tweek or two until it settles down,
13. Let the Roadie and sound man choose
14. It used to be the industry standard so thats why it is targeted, but thinking back when I bought the first one for my then girl friend now wife for all of 34 years It cost me £85 compare my wages now to then the same Mic should cost about £1000. It must have been love. But we still have it and our guitarist uses it regularly. New - it came with a bag, stand clip and cable but you could specify with or without cable. she has since had the Beta 58 wired and a Beta radio system. The proximity effect on the Beta's is good compared with the standard 58 and hard wired beats the radio for bass reproduction hands down. There are better Mics out there now but that goes for bass guitars as well Buy from a dealer you trust. You dont get comedians want to borrow them and then blow into them and bang people on the head like they did in the 70's oh! and Roger Daltrey
15. The Mark King Asdown head is still the only one I ever fancied -wonder why
16. Anyone know of good flexible power cable with fine multi core copper wire that does not work harden like all these we get via China on our appliances. I feel it is the quality of copper and the strands per core that are the problem more than the insulation although this does not help the flexibility either.
17. chateauneuf de crap
18. Agree, Most bass players here were proud of this British racing green company. But as soon as their return was anounced and i went to see the range of amps at a show some years back. I thought cheap plasticy knobs and graphic and back lights were not going to entise me back. I Think the original spec, build quality and weight would sell better than current models, but maybe the light weight market has now moved us all to a new place.
19. If making your own up buy new 2 pole speakons, I had an issue with farty speaker noise at volume, tried swapping out basses, inst cables, checked inside from socket to speaker eventually ordered a new speaker from the States only to track it down later to a dodgy 20 year old 4 pole peavey PA cable I butchered to make up a bass cab lead. It is easy to see if a 1/4 jack is clean or damaged but not if the little wire fingers on a speakon are opening, mucky or jammed. I believe in speakons but as above don't skimp
20. May I suggest the Aphex 1402 Bass Xciter It is what I step on when i want phat, or the hall is making me sound thin, also good for the other end to give sparkle when the venue is too dry and you need some presents
21.
Typically you'd want the drummer playing the ride and the bassist playing something more legato along with it, so you essentially do away with whatever silence there was before.
I would do this, actually step back and choose something complementry but supprtive, but my OC-2 is the last pedal i would let go, can be over done though
22. Bump for re advertise with extension cables added and re tested ready to go
