1. Just order everything i need and more to replace old work hardened leads for my bass amps and active PA. so thanks for H07 tip. Top marks for http://www.10outof10.co.uk Who not only had everything in stock but good quality too and it arrived in just over 24 hours. So they live up to their name.
2. Have not done it but as string gauge changes can play up the relief on a 5, I would think such a drastic change will entail a trus rod tweek or two until it settles down,
3. Let the Roadie and sound man choose
4. It used to be the industry standard so thats why it is targeted, but thinking back when I bought the first one for my then girl friend now wife for all of 34 years It cost me £85 compare my wages now to then the same Mic should cost about £1000. It must have been love. But we still have it and our guitarist uses it regularly. New - it came with a bag, stand clip and cable but you could specify with or without cable. she has since had the Beta 58 wired and a Beta radio system. The proximity effect on the Beta's is good compared with the standard 58 and hard wired beats the radio for bass reproduction hands down. There are better Mics out there now but that goes for bass guitars as well Buy from a dealer you trust. You dont get comedians want to borrow them and then blow into them and bang people on the head like they did in the 70's oh! and Roger Daltrey
5. The Mark King Asdown head is still the only one I ever fancied -wonder why
6. Anyone know of good flexible power cable with fine multi core copper wire that does not work harden like all these we get via China on our appliances. I feel it is the quality of copper and the strands per core that are the problem more than the insulation although this does not help the flexibility either.
7. Agree, Most bass players here were proud of this British racing green company. But as soon as their return was anounced and i went to see the range of amps at a show some years back. I thought cheap plasticy knobs and graphic and back lights were not going to entise me back. I Think the original spec, build quality and weight would sell better than current models, but maybe the light weight market has now moved us all to a new place.
8. If making your own up buy new 2 pole speakons, I had an issue with farty speaker noise at volume, tried swapping out basses, inst cables, checked inside from socket to speaker eventually ordered a new speaker from the States only to track it down later to a dodgy 20 year old 4 pole peavey PA cable I butchered to make up a bass cab lead. It is easy to see if a 1/4 jack is clean or damaged but not if the little wire fingers on a speakon are opening, mucky or jammed. I believe in speakons but as above don't skimp
9. May I suggest the Aphex 1402 Bass Xciter It is what I step on when i want phat, or the hall is making me sound thin, also good for the other end to give sparkle when the venue is too dry and you need some presents
10.
Typically you'd want the drummer playing the ride and the bassist playing something more legato along with it, so you essentially do away with whatever silence there was before.
I would do this, actually step back and choose something complementry but supprtive, but my OC-2 is the last pedal i would let go, can be over done though
11. Bump for re advertise with extension cables added and re tested ready to go
12. Well Rich It looks the Bizz. But what does it sound like - and what bridge is that and what preamp did you go for in the end
13. My backs OK but have really bad pain in my left elbow - tennis elbow ish. After a long gig last Saturday. A bit like carpel tunnel I believe all those tendons go through- round the funny bone there on the way to your forearm and hand. Holding my arm in the playing position is painful but lifting heavy things etc no problem? will this just ease off or do i need the quack
14. Thanks Govons, but would prefer to try to sell local to my area first.
15. I am offering up one of my Wizzy M-line cabs. I use the two as shown for some function band work, but mainly just one for Big band and jazz gigs as well as rehearsals etc. Squib started me off on this GAS trip asking for an EA 12" Cab in the wanted section. And I started to think I could sell one and get a twin Berg cab. He found a cab before I could say M25 and so here I am offering one of mine to the forum. They are both in showroom condition so happy for someone to take their pick. If you fancy both and and or an MB500 well we can discuss that too. Note these are both 8 ohm versions Mission complete please remove this thread.
16. Thanks for that Dis' just got a bit of GAS at the moment. I love my MB 500 so the Carvin would have to be good. But the spec of the Carvin with Contour and two para's + graphic is damn good. I supose i could just get me an MXR graphic pedal watch this space
17. I ran the old PB500 (ProBass 500) some years ago, played it for about 12 years from the mid 90's Loved it. It was 250 watt stereo or bi amp or 500w bridged. similar features to the BX1600. I don't need that volume these days but I am thinking about changing my MB500 fusion for the BX700 for the graphic flexility and low high para mids available to control your sound. I found my old one to be very reliable and sounded great.
18. Just read this three times to pick my way through the changes. The guy obviously does not know what he is doing so forget him and find someone who does. Series is a safe option as the current delivered by your amp will pass evenly through both speakers, but the impedance at 20 ohms is going to seriously cut the output level from your amp. The other configuration = parallel will split the power unevenly in favour of the lower resistance speaker possibly frying it. But recheck what you are telling us when you mean Cab say cab and when you mean speaker say speaker, as i am getting confused suggestion wire the good existing 10" at 8 ohm in series with the new 10" at 4 ohm replacement = 12 ohm (2x10") cab . then run this cab in parallel with the 8 ohm 15" until you get the right replacement. ? good luck but you would prob be better off running just the one good old 10" speaker in the (2x10)cab in parallel with the 15" cab giving you 4 ohms.
19. Is this position open to English bass players as well as Cornish bass players after today’s announcement, would I need to show my passport at the Tamar?
20. Swamp ash would be my choice. set fire to it, then acid wash it to bring the grain out then use it as a coffee table for about five years before you drill any holes in it. well thats what mine looked like, sounded great though
21. Without putting my thinking head on and calculating this, it will be just under the 4 ohms total, from the simple fact that two 8ohms in parallel wil give you 4 ohms. But the main concern to me would be that the 2x10 at 6 ohms will take the most power and depending on the efficiency of the 10's compared to the 15" the sound could be quite unballanced from each cab. I feel this may be more of a problem than the total impedance the amps sees, as the extra cone area may result in you not being tempted to drive the rig too hard?? un balanced sound levels due to unknown speaker efficiency is the risk here.
