1. Agree Steve. I think the Government could introduce legislation e.g. to ensure invoices to non-VAT registered businesses are paid within 4 weeks. Should be easy, and maybe all non PLC registered companies within 8 weeks. There must be some way of keeping the economy moving.
2. Update - 3 weeks and in the Bank phew.... New management chain, shows it can be done.
3. www.stevekendallguitars.co.uk could try Steve, makes nice basses too
4. I have thought for sometime, they have too many products now. Maybe if they had rationalized these down they could have kept it all in Italy. The ones they have discontinued were better than some of the line that remains, Has Marco lost his way. 3 Amps and 5 different cabs would be enough. Any one here about to rush out and buy a programable Amp. Or have spare MoMark modules they swap over between Gigs ?
5. I find it disappointing as a loyal MB user. I admired Marco for his commitment to Italian manufacturing. MB used to advertise "100% Made in Italy. The only way to maintain the growth and worldwide success of Markbass is to keep manufacturing in Italy, where we control the entire process from the quality of our materials to our rigorous testing procedures."
6. Funny, I have just been doing the same with my Markbass LMK and my GK MB500fusion. They are both the same size and take them both to gigs as back up, always placing the GK on top of the LMK. I now run one bass clean through the GK valve head and out of the line out into channel one of the LMK. this amps power section feeds both my wizzy M-lines = 4 ohms. I have my back up bass via effects board into channel two of the LMK. I can use the markbass footswitch to change over basses. This way I keep nice clean valve rich tone for most numbers. and then when i need pedals i switch these through the funkier set up EQ on the LMK. this also gives greater EQ capability as the low mid & high mids on each amp have different centre freqs.
7. I was gonna say, Van, PA, monitors a mate and a sack truck.
8. Yep - I have had a couple of issues with PP3 similar no connection to one of the poles. I usually buy a large box of these at a time from Battery force. I used to get through a few with Radio mics, 18v basses and an electro acoustic guitar. I Have a battery tester and found whilst testing twisting the battery just gently on the test pins clockwise and anti clock the voltage would disappear, assuming a faulty connection to one of the pins.
9. Yes Dingus + I Know a few first call muso's who may be OK now they have had years of royalties that still drop on the mat, but in those first 10 - 15 years you can't get a Mortgage due to sketchy income and accounts, telling the tax man you earn bugger all, and the Building society you have made it big. People naturally think you want to be pro, but actually a subsidised hobby and a good PAYE job ain't bad.
10. At Christmas my eldest lad finally made us a DVD copy from a video of our band playing in 1990. The comments - Look dads got black hair. I then made the mistake of pointing out, ya mums got brown hair but she's been dying it for 20 years. Are you still tempted to do silly things - put sausage rolls into saxaphones, fill Trombone slides full of beer while they're not looking, or empty the dried up plate of band sandwiches into the raffle ticket tumbler.
11. mep interesting, I would tend to keep the comp between bass and amp, and its this splitting things up that puts me off, My board - EBS dual comp - Boss OC2 - Boss Wah AW3 - Boss BF3 Flange -Boss CEB3 chorus - Aphex Bass ixciter I just dont like using effect pedals anyway due to sound degredation and hisss. EBS on all the time, the Aphex in/out depending on the room and type of song, OC2 just Lilly Allen now, AW3 just Kylie "out of my head", BF3 just "going gets tough" the CEB3 maybe for some finger kunk numbers.
12. IKAY - internal jumpers set to series - is that an easy mod , thinking where did i put my user manual.
13. I am feeling your passion Here is another spin, would you carry on in a band for self gratification. Just to play what you like. I have always said I did not want be in a band that just fizzled out and got worse due to lack of interest. Then got together if a gig came in. What about the audience. How hard are you still willing to work to wow people or has it become about the beer and the craic
14. well done Geoff good luck which raises another issue where do bands post wanted adds these days, don't say social media sites or I'm phkt
15. I'm sure this has been aired a few times, But just wondered how many actually use an Amps effects loop. Can you see a day when Manufacturers stop providing them, Do those of you with multi effects units or Line 6 guys use them. I think the last time I did was when i had a Yamaha FX500. 15 years ago. Anyone put their pedal board via the send / return ? are they fine at line level, what would the sound to noise ratio be like - good/bad. I'm not looking for advise just thought i would open the debate and see who does what
16. Well done lads, we should all make a new Years resolution to get someone playing again. I bet names of old band mates must spring to mind, get those Muso friends arses off the sofa this year.
17. I have been putting off getting a double bass for years despite playing in a Swing band, Im citing all those Gordon Goodwin charts to play my 5 string. I was thinking of gaffaring a DB headstock to the side of my head to keep the purists happy I can't imagine not having an excuse to walk into a music shop Or have enough Gigs to justify that new bass or Cab
18. Seems this first week of a new year is a time of reflection. What will this year bring etc. etc. Musically I have always been busy, by my mid 20’s had done hundreds of gigs and supported and backed some top acts and cabarets artists of the day. Then took up Bass married the singer started a family and our own band and lived happily ever after..........But - One day this must all end..... Your opinions on playing on regardless please. Is your band the Rolling stones of the North East ? are you still taking top billing at the Dog and Duck in ‘Piddling in the Marsh’ Should those with silver hair just look to Jazz and Folk or should we take the fight to the local Indie bands and the local metal bands that have only ever heard Led Zep on down load. Well I'm going down fighting, what says you.
19. Good point from essex, despite only acoustic and vocals in the PA a loud stage volume will bleed in. I always use the 80 Hz button on the mixer to cut all mics low end. This is below vocal range so unless you are to mic the bass you do not need that low frequency rumble and mush being amplified then propogated by the room acoustics. We also only mic vocals through the PA and use back line amps for guitar and bass. only on large civic halls or Marquees do i use bass bins and then add Guitar and bass. Best to remember every room has a critical frequency and volume level that will come and bite you if you try and go there. Set up is key but someone suggest - the singer should get out there with a radio mic and tell the band what balance is required from who.
20. Yep with Sky chaser and Lozz Les and MR Jones, in fact lots of good advise above. When you have played every bum hall in the area you will build up a more immediate response to similar venues you find yourself at. My key points would be:- Most people want to hear the vocals so make sure these are good, I have put mic stands on carpet samples. Also monitors on them keep some in the van. Turn down bass and guitar ++ drummer Get the amps off the floor put not directly into mics Positioning of mics and monitors and PA can save the day. Better to sound really good to those on the floor in front the 1st 20 feet than sound sh*te everywhere
21. Let you know at Easter
22. I was going by the old P = V x I so if the voltage is down on the mains and the internal impedance (resistance) of your Amps power transformer cannot change the current it draws must rise. Power = current squared x Resistance But I have forgotten more than I learned 30 years ago so happy to stand corrected
23. PM'd But will pick them all up if you reply to my PM cheers
24. Seems odd to me 2007 gear, unless built from old stock, but even at the pre EU voltage standardisation. I would think the tolerence should have coped with the voltage difference, ref Bill above, more likely to expect damage using old Uk gear in europe as the lower voltage there would result in the gear drawing more current. But as long as any new gear has the CE approval it should be fine now.
25. Ed S -- "if you buy from Thomann you get the 230V version, whereas UK stores sell the 240V." Not correct This was covered by Dad and Flyfisher, and is not the case we are now the same with some regional variations and indeed fluctuations from time to time ( during Christmas dinner cooking) due to how the Grid is split up and the loads on parts of the network and tappings off the transformers HV > LV. where i live part of the town is still on over 240 volts and the others side dont see any more than 220V. I Have played in Europe and made up my own extension leads from Euro wall sockets to UK extension sockets, have ran my Bass gear PA and lights no problems. Thomann is fine, But you should support you local shop so its there when you want it.
