Just to clarify - we are a four piece with three vocals. so PA and monitors are vocal only. Drums are not mic'd guitar and bass back line only. yes i meant Aux sends. IEM are not for us you need someone you trust with the rest of your playing career. Key point if you can live without monitors but for the main singers diction, you will be better off, no point in playing at rock bands for the sake of it.

I did run a passive system for years had 4 x old Ohm wedges with single 10" and bullet but everyone got the same mix and if any one jack got bent or a short and you lose the lot. so i now have three ALTO active monitors I have one mix on the front line for singer and guitarist and a seperate mix for the drummer who sings. Beauty is you can carry on adding as many as you need. check out the Alto range the are good and double as small PA for practise. Thought I would share the joy I have experienced getting down to learn three shadows numbers over Christmas. I didn't know who Mark Griffiths was until my YouTube searches. You may know him from the production of the Sue Ryder Bass as that was his project. I know most of you do appreciate a good Jobbing musician who plays what is needed, solid and reliable. Although these bass lines are not new to our ears and in most part not his own, he does make them fresh and has a great tone and I love how they always seem to have the bass forward in the mix. Over 15 years in the Shads must be doing something right So I'll leave you with my current favourite which I have now learned note for note and every little skip as well. Use an LMK through my Techamp 4 x 12 or one or two EA m-lines, They are great amps so as you see above they will sound great though any quality cab

I would advise not to get a cheap 5 string as a 5 is a very different instrument to a 4 string. So would advise to push your budget up to a good second hand 5 on here. From what has been suggested above, I was very suprised at the playability of the OLP 5's but also like ATK's a lot of working bass for the bucks

If you have just fitted it and you are at home. not out on a gig. do you have a dimmer in your room. I had the same thing happen and it was my 4 gang house dimmer. worth checking and cleaning the earth under the bridge. clean the wire solder the end and reposition it under the bridge, I have also filed black bridges down to the brass if required. good luck

How did you knock the frets out, it has been advised theses are knocked out sideways to avoid the frets splintering the fret board, can you cover this part of the job. looking good though.

Me Too have two EA m-lines. one started this farty breakup sound. But which one ? Thought i isolated which one it was so ordered a new speaker from EA in the states which arrived with lots of import tax and Vat the same week the cab stopped doing it. and I only have a hint of it now and again. have eliminated the sprung loaded handle underneath and grill, but will recheck the cable resting on the cone suggestion. So thanks for that.

Probably - you are all getting louder; you start at a reasonable volume after the sound check and then creep up each in turn, until the room starts to propagate certain frequencies degrading the sound more generally. So many key frequencies you rely on for definition are mixed up in the mush that is now bouncing around. This is just one possibility but every hall and room has a finite or optimum level it can cope with, I believe you all need to discuss this phenomenon so you can all recognise it when it happens and take the nod from the one who first notices it. And all come down a notch. If you don't discuss it off stage then who ever is told first just thinks FO i cant hear myself now so it cant be me!!

Tone has been mentioned but what about sustain, Ebony was chosen for its wear and sustain and tone transfer, and I assume rose wood was originally a cheap imitation when guitars started to be mass produced. My first P bass was maple and I couldn't see me playing a rose wood board, and then I got an ebony board on my next two basses now I prefer a rose wood P bass to a maple so think it’s what you get used to. My favourite bass neck was my shuker with Padauk board
