1. What Bill said. But nice to see no one jumping in with - you need a 12k rig mate. I always worry about outdoor gigs as I own the band PA, and use the PA for vocal only on all but a few gigs, but do have bass bins and extra amp for these occasions, just to help but only help. I mic bass drum and hi hat and one above. I mic the guitar cab just to give him some spread, and my bass DI. To help my bottom end. It is important to find out what the organiser has in mind. Not expecting Queen at Wembley coverage. But play to your own comfort levels so you can hear each other, so monitors could be more important, and play to a specific area as you would in a hall, don’t try and reach the end of the road and sound crap or blow horns and cook amps. You'll be fine
2. I'm with Bilbo and Doddy. But understand those countering their point, but if a drummer is that bad you won't be playing with him long. In our Functions band our drummer is like a recording and I have no issues, in the Swing band I play in the drummer sometimes speeds up, but different sections pull the rhythm section all the time, trumpets speed up, sax entries slow the piece down. And I believe they should follow the drummer regardless, as I have said on other threads If you have a rhythm section that’s what it is for, follow it and the band will sound good, fight it and the audience will notice as well. As most here on B.C. I would guess play in just rhythm sections 4 -5 piece bands it must be a collective responsibility, but helps if you can find the best drummer in town.
3. Shame this was one outfit i would have liked to see.
4. Scales should be fun and sound like this, So for best bass intro has to go to http://youtu.be/W-apaIOOoAo

7. I have used comfort straps for over ten years now they are good but one of mine is coming undone(stichiing) there was also that thread scare, about the plastic buckles breaking and dropping the bass to the floor. from a thread i put up ref Pino's bass strap, check these out these are good. http://www.alangregory.co.uk/music/Neotech_Mega_Bass_Guitar_Strap.html
8. tredders, yours is definitely sweet. It has got me thinking, and I just bought an old ESP P bass to get back into 4 strings playing. And so may be tempted that way.
9. I would order one tomorrow, but fear I may not be gigging by the time it arrives What I would like to commission is not conducive to grey hair and Jazz gigs is nearer the point.
10. Latched on to these guys a few years back and just dug out the CD again this week, then pulled this off the tube, for another thread. check out Jo Jo and his brothers. would love to see an on stage dual with the Wooten brothers http://youtu.be/3W1jn0ZAjU8

12.
I was going to say Wings... Then remembered the crime against humanity that is "Mull of Kintyre"
sh*te- forgot about Mull of Kintyre, that ruined a good Christmas, still, it stopped the locals burning his holiday home.
13. Wings or The Beatles. In which band did Paul contribute more to the world of Bass and Bass lines in general Off you go. I'll say Wings
14. Every time I see this thread come up, I wiz to the end to see the pictures of your new bass. Let Jon know this is affecting all of us now. Can you PM me with a picture when it arrives I can't take the suspense any longer
15. Just thinking it was this very situation, the electric bass got invented, out of necessity. That’s not meant as a flippant remark just on reflection, but thanks to advances in amplification you will probably sort it and be able to project some nice acoustic bass out to the masses
16. I think it is best to take a section at a time, break it down may be a phrase or even a bar or two. Use a metronome just to ensure you are dividing up the tied and dotted notes correctly. If you start reading it wrong your brain will keep throwing in the wrong phrase later. So learn it right slowly then speed it up. Always good to have a few lessons to keep you on track, this does not have to be a bass player it could be a piano teacher a brass player just a good reader to start with. I had an issue for a while about the best place on the neck to start the piece. This comes with experience but found an ex pro, to reassure me. This does mean the dusty end has to come into play. Reading dots and flying up and down the neck back to your comfort zone = bum notes. So anchor your hand over the key centre of the piece. Say Eb where you would play that scale, and you will find most of what you need under your hand, but you won't if you start at the first fret. That’s my tip of the day, look at the key and the range of notes in the piece first. Always look over it to check where the repeats key changes, and signs and coda is etc.
17. Use your hands until your ankle gets better
18. Thanks guys, I'm gunna let the new strings bed in and my neck tweeks time to work, and see how she goes, I got the action down last night and it already sounds better.

20. Hi Guys, there seems to be a few with ESP knowledge on this thread Doctor J/ Linus. Can you take a gander at my recent acquisition, give me your thoughts. I know nothing about these basses but it looked good and I wanted a Sunburst precision project. Without paying silly Fender money. Although any of you watching the evil Bay last week will see I took a bit of a flyer on this. My main observations from other early ESB bass photos is that this has no skunk stripe or teardrop trust rod wood plug on the front headstock, the neck is also reasonably flamed not seen on others. It is also very obviously a Tele head on a later P body, was this trying to be a crossover bass between the early and later p designs. I'm planning on a Gotoh bridge, a set of wizards and possibly a tonestyler tone pot.
21.
Just want to let you guys know about a company that supplies grub screws. www.Modelfixings.com in Nottingham My issue was I found that one saddle on my Schack bridge had a damaged thread and the saddle would not sit at the height I wanted. This was due to the stock grub screw being too short and when fully adjusted was only held by the last couple of threads. These I believe got damaged by the bass falling over in its case face down. So the highest saddle gets the full wack. Anyway I have found these 8mm stainless steel M3 screws and now all my saddles are adjusted and the grub screws occupy the full thread. cost just £5 pounds for fifteen and an M3 key This picture is before replacement
