1. I admire your dedication. Bad memories over Band Wagons. I Was in a nine piece Band in Oxford years ago and the Band leader said one night I want to pool some money and get a Van so we can all go to Gigs together. We went over to look at the Van owned by the 'Education' A respected local Band. It was a converted Ambulance with Aircraft seats already done out, so we were won over. Then his next project was a new PA, A huge stack plus stage risers for the Horns. We never did get in the van.
2. Sorted for £500 34" 45mm nut 18.5mm string space at Bridge and 18mm depth front back at first fret 22mm at 12th mucho fast
3. Bump for Loan and trial before you make an offer no pressure. Have too many fives I have a set of TOM flats for this if you like, but it limits it for jazz, hense the new set of Elites I would consider trade with 70's P plus cash from me(sunburst rosewood)
4. The price is the best reason i have seen for taking up six string bass. good luck
5. Yes it is German, Andreas Schack. Had this over 10 years now no neck problems on either of my schack basses. Not heard that, He seasons his wood longer than most and supplies most major manufacturers and resin pressure treats all his schack necks, they are also the finest Maple grained necks i have seen, see Pic attached. Very fast neck shallow D , weight 8 3/4 lbs http://www.schack-guitars.de/ and http://www.woodland-gmbh.de/ anything else just say and I will get back Cheers Paul

8. I think Dlloyd, covered it quite well. Having come from Trombone and played in Brass Bands and Orchestras for the first 10 years of my musical life. I got used to living in a Mono world. Just playing notes and not having to understand why this or that note, I have played for years without any need to understand Chords and where I fitted into the whole picture. When I took up the bass my musical world suddenly became three dimensional, Music changed from Black and white to colour. There are of course exceptions to this rule, but even now blowers i.e. Trumpet and trombone players are less likely to improvise as Sax players who are naturally drawn to Jazz in the first place. And yes they are usually lazy in that they turn up just in time for them; helping set up n pack away etc. is not on their radar. They will be first in line for food n drink and seem to have a very narrow view on the subtleties of dealing with the clients. So I would add selfish in as well as lazy
9. Thought I should post a more recent shot, Wife still singing and I'm asleep at the Back.
10. Talking of 30 year old gear, here is a 30 year old line up. I'm Far left, My the Wife centre, and thought you may like to see John East Bottom left, When he used to spank the plank on a regular basis, and got me hooked on this Bass madness. We did use a full HH PA with Column speakers in 77 this was taken in 81.
11. Hampsters bassist got me into thinking about it, ref tension and ease of tuning-its easier to adjust below than above, sting length allows use of long scale strings etc. I would go for this reverse set up if i get a bass made. would love a sklar double reverse P like this
12. Price may give it away
13. Is that a finger, or is he just showing out. Does that ad' say which toilet to meet in.
14. I'm Leaving You
15. Have to say having had a good experience at GAK 5 years ago when i bought an Amp, my last visit on a Saturday in the spring was really bad. The Bass room was locked, and I was told they did not have the staff available, but would open it when staff became available. A typical British music shop just interested in shifting guitar starter packs.
16. and also in the US http://store.bassemporium.com/ Also another German shop, check out the Waja bass, anyone got one seen or played one http://www.cmsme.de/epages/62030644.sf/de_...22B%C3%84SSE%22

19. Now tell us you're in a Wilko Johnson tribute band.
20. How about we all turn up after our Gigs tonight, and Party. You may get a sale or two. How does that Walnut Jazz sound ??
21. My advise would be not to buy down to a price, but look at some quality second hand gear on here, G&K Neos would be a better quality buy and more efficient. check the recent issues with TC cabs as they are nearer 10 ohms than 8 which means less power from a non TC amp. like ya ashdown. Trial it if poss. good luck
22. apa, Elites ground wound are realy good, best i have found, but as i am into GHS now might try those you suggested. from first thread, i would describe pressure wound as an ordinary round wound string squashed, rolled along its length so taking all the round windings down to a flater profile, as these companies usually start with a heavier gauge wrap and squash it down to a standard diameter, there is more mass in them than ordinary size round wounds. so more magnetic coupling.
23. I think there should be a set criteria all manufacturers should disclose, not just the ones they like and use words to gloss over the ones they don't wish to publish. Slew Rate would be high on my list and it means more to us that any other musician. But you never see it. Think Carvin did some years back.
24. Wedding near Tidworth Marquee job, They had sorted everything we asked for, stage for band and a good size Geny no electrical problems + food n drink. First Gig we've had in August due to holidays and we played very well as if we had not had the break First time in a Marquee this year so used my 4 x 12" for first time this year also First time i had to use the Landing lights on my Shuker 5 string in anger so pleased with that and it justified the investment. First time the Wife (singer) has broken anything. Twisted her ankle packing away and has broken a bone in her foot. So next weeks gig she will be doing a Jessie J. Oh what joy. It was all going so well.
25. watch out for the earlier KAM T bar sets, they may still be available but the LED's were not bright enough. I know they are an ideal compact set up with foot switch and cheaper now. I wanted some until i saw how bright they were. That said i have seen some recently that looked a lot brighter and think they may have changed the type of LED installed. Just dont get caught buying blind on the net. check them out in a store.
