  1. Bump for any help Cheers
  2. Try this from the former British Bass Mag Don't know if this is possible, hope it works for you, if no good send me your e-mail and I'll attach it there. Cant think how you will get a good printable version off this ??
  3. Are you using the PA head in Mono and the other channel for foldback, That would be a good match a keep everything ticking over nicely. and will not strain anything I used an old Peavey 8 channel mono amp for the first ten years of our band. Drummer would still prefer it. You don't need stereo just because you have an ear each side of ya head. The industry have pushed us that way. have to sign off now the nurse has come to take me back to my room.
  4. Don't start on Synths DX7 and Juno8 couldn’t give um away then, well had to sell them while not making the wrong sort of funny noises. My first rig was a Guitar amp 4x12" marshal with 100w valve top, second hand from a guitarist in a bedsit in Oxford. All he had left was his guitar and the mattress on the floor. Paid him £80 My bass sounded great through it. This would be a good storey if I had sold it years later for hundreds, but no, I sold it to the girlfriend’s sister’s boy friend on instalments. Think I got £40 up until they split.
  5. 2 or 5 for me can’t stand my Streamer knob layout. And as the present custodian of Old Git's Shuker, the LED slide switch on the back works just fine, no need to take it off. Since Homer modified it with an East preamp it also has a kill switch, which used to be the coil change I find this handy too. LED slide switch in picture is under the 2007 just use your nail, you don't accidently knock it on or off Just realised Rich said OldGits P5, well this is his other bass which shows it works to have the same thing done twice. When i do get round to a custom order I may get brave and have all the knobs in a line up the top horn, ( providing the cavity isn't already drilled at the bottom !!)
  6. Sound city amps, always thought they looked very Woolworths. But what do I know I traded my 77 Olypic white fender P bass for £325 15 years ago.
  7. Glad you have sorted it, I own our PA and there are so many things that can go a miss. I wondered if yours was a cable short to the speakers that can sound odd and of course do damage to your amp. The other thing to watch for is insert jacks. I use a sterio exciter /enhancer on ballanced jacks so like stereo to two monos (send -Return) jack sockets can get tired and these need to make contact again internally when not in use. I periodically use a professional contact cleaner and spray a jack with it, then run the sprayed jack in and out of all the jacks on the mixer to clean them up. same with you sliders each gig slide them all up and down whilst off their full travel. these two things should avoid any poor quality or scratchy sound. It is amazing how much dust and sh..t gets thrown up by dancers over a mixer. I also keep spare everything just in case, but not speakers !! All the best
  8. Just wanted to add, bought one for my first bass 77 Fender precision. I thought it did make a noticable difference to the quality of the tone. I did not know about cutting slots until i traded it in at the Gallery and MP pointed it out, but it seemed ok as it was.
  9. Thanks Tom you got me on it now, but i'm not getting up at 5.30 am to play this stuff
  10. Anyone have the Bass part written or Tab worked out for Mayhem, I just can't pick it out and have a load of others to get through. Any help appreciated Cheers Paul.
  11. You would need to sort a spread sheet out and trawl people’s opinions of important headings, but populating it would have to be done off line or it you could bore everyone and they would lose interest. Just reading some lately it is all down to personal taste and type of music played although that is not often asked. Indie or C & W Funk or Punk - Pick or finger style ? It was recently suggested there are only three factories in the world making strings, Is that true? I once wrote to a couple of companies suggesting they get their act together so purchasers could sort out if their strings would actually fit the customer's bass. Rotosound were quite dismissive and missed the point. I feel a lot of strings made have become very generic over the last ten years. Lengths have changed as has wrap length, lead in and lead out of the cores either ends. What I wanted them to state in picture form on the box or wallet was 3 things:- Distance from ball end to useful saddle position Then useful length of string from there to the wrap at the nut end Distance from the last usable part at the nut to the taper that would actually wind on the tuner post You could then confidently go into a music store with three dimensions from your bass and buy with confidence without persuading the guy to undo loads of packets. We would all be tempted to try new strings without wasting £30 Until we get past this you won't know if people use strings because thats all they can find that fit
  12. I wish I was that disciplined, good on ya. One great number as an exercise I used to teach people was ( La Isla Bonita ) by Madonna, A recognisable tune but also a great bunch of forward and backward major and minor triads to get the fingers working.
  13. Still think these are one of the best cabs Peavey made
  14. Wow, my first bass rig was a 15" combo with this head, much louder than the spec would indicate. Fond memories
  15. I think the old Trace amps have something special, but time has moved on. These light weight amps can do the business and have the tone to match. I have never missed my old Trace cabs in fact on reflection everything I have owned since has been better. My biased opinion would be a Mark bass amp and Tecamp cab say a 4 x 10. My 4 x 12" weighs only 54 Lbs
  16. I need to slow down !!!, I read that as an iAmp Micro Gig bag. I'll go and lay down.
  17. Get a computer bag much cheaper office world or curreys or Staples where i got mine much better lots of pockets and padding that way you get exactly what suits your need and there is a lot more choice.
  18. Colour original Red and Black, will sort a photo ASAP. Ref trade would prefer cash as i have a mark bass amp
  19. Anyone in the market for an EA iAmp 350 Head complete with gig bag. Very nice flexible warm amp. Offers around £300. Trying to rationalise my gear down to please the wife, well you have to try.
  20. I have a 2 x 10 Carvin Red eye languishing in my local music store since before Christmas. No pictures available sorry, but it is in good order and never been pushed was used as a top box on a bi amp rig and for Jazz Gigs. I'll take £100 or 1st cheeky offer. Thames Valley area
  21. Just a self Bump to re launch a possible sale
  22. Hungerfor jazz forum Last friday of the month, just turn up £2 on the door all are welcome there. George and Andy run it for you. Hungerford British Legion, Bars open and they provide real books for all
  23. I have a real affinity with what TimR says all through this thread. I own the PA and lights and van. The wife runs the band gets bookings etc works out sets organises everything. After twenty one years together with various line ups where we used to split the gig evenly and pool any odd amount to cover consumables, Gaffer light bulbs practise hall fees. We parted with our guitarist who was letting us down and generally pissing us off, and got in a guy who is pro. And provides pro deps, when he can’t make it. He has produced a pad with all our numbers written out for such events. We pay him £150 minimum he is worth more, I am now probably the worse paid but have never been happier on Gigs, and in the present gig climate we take the hit. If we want to be out. What this comes down to is setting out from the start how things will be. And everyone must know, no hidden agreements, I feel I should get more but in this current arrangement I accept it. A band I knew use to split the money as if there was an extra player and that went to the guy owning and lugging the PA etc.
  24. A really interesting thread and feedback. I have to say I do agree with most of the comments that basses are fairly reliable and I have only broken two strings in 30 years, a G when first put on at home, and an E that parted somewhere inside and took me about 8 numbers to realise it wasn't an intermittent lead. But I do agree with GK that no back up is risky and not professional. And we are all pros when out earning on a Saturday night and amateurs or semi pro when not playing. We now have a pro guitar player and his professionalism has rubbed off on me in a good way. Firstly I had to get my act together musically, but I also now carry a spare amp as well as a spare bass to all gigs. Yes these were originally similar 2x schacks, but my streamer has taken over as my main bass and my active schack as backup. These are different in sound. And I now tend to try each out to see which fits the venue acoustics best. I also carry spare PA amp and mixer Oh and I am a pessimistic nervous wreck, but I used to be a maintenance Manager and a boy scout before that. should just add our drummer carries a spare snare and bass drum pedal. he also put his beater through his bass drum mid gig, and wow he had a spare in his case.
  25. All joking apart, it is hard for them, and I have had spells where the boots on the other foot and found myself booking odd Saturday nights out for meals in our diary to keep a balance. From our original line up the drummer, lead and rhythm are all divorced now.
