You would need to sort a spread sheet out and trawl people’s opinions of important headings, but populating it would have to be done off line or it you could bore everyone and they would lose interest. Just reading some lately it is all down to personal taste and type of music played although that is not often asked. Indie or C & W Funk or Punk - Pick or finger style ? It was recently suggested there are only three factories in the world making strings, Is that true? I once wrote to a couple of companies suggesting they get their act together so purchasers could sort out if their strings would actually fit the customer's bass. Rotosound were quite dismissive and missed the point. I feel a lot of strings made have become very generic over the last ten years. Lengths have changed as has wrap length, lead in and lead out of the cores either ends. What I wanted them to state in picture form on the box or wallet was 3 things:- Distance from ball end to useful saddle position Then useful length of string from there to the wrap at the nut end Distance from the last usable part at the nut to the taper that would actually wind on the tuner post You could then confidently go into a music store with three dimensions from your bass and buy with confidence without persuading the guy to undo loads of packets. We would all be tempted to try new strings without wasting £30 Until we get past this you won't know if people use strings because thats all they can find that fit

I wish I was that disciplined, good on ya. One great number as an exercise I used to teach people was ( La Isla Bonita ) by Madonna, A recognisable tune but also a great bunch of forward and backward major and minor triads to get the fingers working.

I think the old Trace amps have something special, but time has moved on. These light weight amps can do the business and have the tone to match. I have never missed my old Trace cabs in fact on reflection everything I have owned since has been better. My biased opinion would be a Mark bass amp and Tecamp cab say a 4 x 10. My 4 x 12" weighs only 54 Lbs

Even pay split between function band members
deepbass5 replied to harvey1-8's topic in General Discussion
I have a real affinity with what TimR says all through this thread. I own the PA and lights and van. The wife runs the band gets bookings etc works out sets organises everything. After twenty one years together with various line ups where we used to split the gig evenly and pool any odd amount to cover consumables, Gaffer light bulbs practise hall fees. We parted with our guitarist who was letting us down and generally pissing us off, and got in a guy who is pro. And provides pro deps, when he can’t make it. He has produced a pad with all our numbers written out for such events. We pay him £150 minimum he is worth more, I am now probably the worse paid but have never been happier on Gigs, and in the present gig climate we take the hit. If we want to be out. What this comes down to is setting out from the start how things will be. And everyone must know, no hidden agreements, I feel I should get more but in this current arrangement I accept it. A band I knew use to split the money as if there was an extra player and that went to the guy owning and lugging the PA etc. -
How closely does your backup bass resemble your main player?
deepbass5 replied to ThomBassmonkey's topic in Bass Guitars
A really interesting thread and feedback. I have to say I do agree with most of the comments that basses are fairly reliable and I have only broken two strings in 30 years, a G when first put on at home, and an E that parted somewhere inside and took me about 8 numbers to realise it wasn't an intermittent lead. But I do agree with GK that no back up is risky and not professional. And we are all pros when out earning on a Saturday night and amateurs or semi pro when not playing. We now have a pro guitar player and his professionalism has rubbed off on me in a good way. Firstly I had to get my act together musically, but I also now carry a spare amp as well as a spare bass to all gigs. Yes these were originally similar 2x schacks, but my streamer has taken over as my main bass and my active schack as backup. These are different in sound. And I now tend to try each out to see which fits the venue acoustics best. I also carry spare PA amp and mixer Oh and I am a pessimistic nervous wreck, but I used to be a maintenance Manager and a boy scout before that. should just add our drummer carries a spare snare and bass drum pedal. he also put his beater through his bass drum mid gig, and wow he had a spare in his case. -
All joking apart, it is hard for them, and I have had spells where the boots on the other foot and found myself booking odd Saturday nights out for meals in our diary to keep a balance. From our original line up the drummer, lead and rhythm are all divorced now.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder Just tell her “you want me to be happy don't you" It helps if it earns money. ps has anyone successfully convinced the Tax man that gig money is not earnings, annd that a band is just a subsidised hobby. it is different for me as I married the Singer 30 years ago. Which is handy as she runs the band, so when I buy new gear or a bass, I just say “you do want me to sound the best I can don't you"

Try Lushlife they do some nice arrangements

Have used them quite a lot, for cables, effects lighting, PA bits, they are cheap for Warwick bass spares, I bought a load of music stand lights K&M but they came with Euro plugs and i had to by adapters. I complained that this should have been made clear on the page as I was on the UK pages. That was the only issue i have had. Some times they are cheaper some times not.

Tumbledown Dick, Uffington way Remember them, didn't the Lady singer play the dog house bass, does this mean she's retired and think her husband was in the band also ?? Good luck with that.

Yep you havegot it, but bear in mind for future link ups, that it is the impedance that governs the power consumed not the wattage, thats just a limit at which damage may occur. This will not actualy allow you up to 450 watts just because you think you are adding a 200 + 250. They are both 8 ohms so share the power equilly which is good but you will still be limited to the lower rated cab in this case 200 watt. so 400 watts would be as high as you would dare want to push it. Alex didn't mention this because you are unlikely to get up there and these are close enough to make little difference. I only mention this as I have seen similar questions on here where someone is adding a 100w and a 300 watt cab if these are the same impedance this set up would be limited to the 100 watt cab. So together could handle 200W a 100 through each.

Most Dinner dances we do an Hour then 10-15 min break change out of our monkey suits to coloured shirts then do hour 'n' half to finish. too often end up doing two hours because the little Lady says there's no time to break now. Thats ok for those that don't have a coffee table hanging round their neck all night.

Have re-visited by board after writing that last night, back to how i started out I think, but thats always the trouble isn't it so many tweeks you can't remember what you have tried and which was best. Now have Compressor up front set passive and Aphex last set passive. I have come to think that the active settings are there so not to over cook the signal on the output side of the device rather than what you are plugging into it. So adding a degree of attenuation to protect down stream device ?. Any thought on that theory. Anyway sounds good and is quiet, Will try it live this weekend thats the best test at gig volumes. any names suggested for a Looper I may go for that

Interesting thread, have not noticed a drop in mine if anything a boost when in. Set mine Oct2 off, direct level at 3 oclock and Oct 1 between 11and 1. I saw this setting suggested in a bass Mag and find it about right for most of my numbers. Thanks for the heads up

What do you guys do when it comes to mixing pedals and those with attenuation switches when using you active basses? Do you set them to active or passive and where in the chain if you think this changes things. My board = Boss OC2 - then - Boss Dynamic Wah AW-3 - then - Boss Flanger BF-3 - then - Boss Chorus CEB-3 - then - EBS Comp set to active - then - Aphex Xciter set active then into Amp just not quite happy, I need each of these at various times in an evening, but would prefer no pedals as I feel they degrade my tone. Any suggestions I have tried the Comp up front but feel the OC2 works best in front. Or would all the others benefit from a hotter compressed signal pushing through them My basses as below Warwick active SS1 and an 18v schack though not overly hot in output.
