'Hearetbreaker' are a vintage rock covers band into Zepplin, Free, AC/DC, Bad Co, Floyd, Kravitz etc. We are a fairly mature, easy going bunch with top gear that now need a new drummer to maintain our 4 piece (Gutar/voc, Bass, Guitar, 'DRUMS'). Portsmouth area.

Can anybody out there tell me the difference between the Fender American Deluxe Jazz VINTAGE NOISLESS pickups & the Fender American Deluxe Jazz SAMARIUM COBALT NOISLESS (SCN) pickups TONE WISE. I know the Noisless Vintage were fitted in the 99-02 American Deluxe Jazz & The SCN's were fitted to the 02 to present American Deluxe Jazz's. Also the SCN magnet is as stated samarium cobalt. Thanks, Rob.

With the versatility of the Ampeg SVT4 pro head being mosfet bi amped power amp section & the 8 ohm Markbass cabs you can run 2 x 8ohm cabs through one channel giving 4ohms or one cab per channel giving 8 ohms per channel. You can also mix the ohmage of the channels up if you have 3 cabs by say putting a 4x10 8 ohm cab through one channel & a 2x10 & 1x15 8ohm cabs through the other channel giving a 4 ohm channel. This works fine as I use this configeration a lot as well sometimes another 4x10 for bigger venues. After all you have a big output head that is ideal for moving some big air.

I had a Markbass 6x10hlf cab (45kg), great cab but like you found the action of moving one big cab although fairly light a pain in the arse compatred to 2 smaller light cabs. Just as well you dont have an Ampeg 8x10 (64kg) then you'd realy suffer in moving it. I now run Markbass 4x10hlf's(29kg) & 1x15 hlf 's(29kg) cabs, much more tonal capacity too than the 6x10hlf, light & easier to move around. Markbass realy do make some superb cabs though, apart from their light weigh, the power handling capacity & tone are just leaps ahead of most other speaker cab makers these days. I love Ampeg amps, I use an SVT4pro but Ampeg cabs I find just dont give the tonal range like so many other cabs dont ither. Its always very important when looking for new cabs to take your amp along to good music shops & try various cabs along side one another so you can realy compare them to make an educated decision on what suits your ears (& pocket). Compromise always shows up in time. Good luck with the sale, lovelly cab.

I gather the reason you have chosen an SVT4 pro head is that you want to move some air, have headroom so you dont get distortion & want tone & reliability. I've had one for many years & found that cab choice is so important to give you all the above. You would be mad to just buy a cab & hope it's going to give you the tone your after, so take your head & bass to a good music shop ie,( the Bass Gallery, The Bass Centre, The Bass Merchant etc) that have several suitable cabs so you can actually compare them alongside eachother. Whilst the head is very versitile, you still need to carefully match up the correct ohmage & wattage output of the cabs with the head. As the head is a bi amp (2 power amps), you should only mono bridge the 2 channels if you are using one really big cab that has the capacity to take some big watts, (1600w peak@ 4 ohms or 1200 watts @ 8 ohms). The head gives many other options of how to run cabs. You can run just one channel with one or two cabs only without damaging the head. However, if you decide to use both channels & multiple cabs ie 1x15, 2x 10's, 4x10's etc then you also have the option of running both channels in ither dual mono full range mode, stereo mode or bi amped mode in ither full range/low freq. or high freq/low freq configeration. The head spec is:- 2x350w @ 8ohms 2x625w @ 4ohms 2x900w @ 2ohms This combination works well with the head. 1x15 (8ohm 400w) cab & 4x10 (8ohm 800w) cab. This combination realy gives you all the options of bi-amping, full range, hi/lo freq or full/low freq. And take the power. You can also run 2 x 8ohm cabs through just one channel giving 4ohms I've tried & owned many verieties of cab over the years with this head, Ampegs, Hartki, Trace Elliot, Warwick, Aguilar, Epifani & Markbass. Some just are not capable of handling the power, but IMO, the most suited combination I have found for sound, power handling, ease of moving around etc are Markbass cabs. These are quite unique in their superb tone, power handling & they are very light which realy makes a big difference too. If you can only afford one cab first, get a 4x10hlf, then idealy get a 1x15hlf so you will be safe with these & give you a full range superb tone & clarity, move plenty of air & handle the power. Personelly I found the ampeg cabs just didn't have the clarity & tonel capacity of the Markbass cabs. You must make your own mind up as to what sound you want but make it an educated choice by trying as many cab options as you can, you'll not regret the effort.

Lookin back on a few of many nice basses that I owned. The Streamer Stage 1 was a Special order 1999 AAAAA flame maple body, AAAAA flamed maple neck with high gloss french violet finish. To this day I have not seen a better flamed wood than on this & I've had many. This realy was a stunning bass in its construction, finish & tone. This stayed with me for many years & delivers just about all I required in tone untill I got VERY LOUD. It sounded a lot clearer & deep than any other Stage 1 I tried & there were many. The middle instrament was a special order again, a 2002 Warwick Infinaty limited edition custom shop 5. It had a one off birdseye maple top & AAAAA flamed maple body & neck in high gloss French violet. This must be the best 5 I've ever had for feel, playability & looks but boy was it crap on tone. The problemb was with the Infinity semi hollow body & huge cut out for the humbucker 5 pick up removed so much wood from the body that it had a real affect of damping down the resinance & it just absorbed the tones rather than sustaining them as should have been the case. Definatly a big desighn cock up on Warwicks part as despite its good looks, you must have the tone to go with it. I have also found this to be the case on other semi hollow Infinaty's made in diferent woods too & must be a reason why not many sold or were seen on the live circuit despite looking the dogs bo***cks. Shame. Finally my 1973 Rick 4001. Well I started playing ricks back in the early 70's & stayed with them intill the mid 80's. Definatly superb for prog rock. In 2003 I bought this mint 4001, not a mark, flamed neck, toaster neck pup & checker board side banding. I couldnt falt it but typically my ear, style & taste had changed so I found a good home for her but this still must be one of the best 4001's I've seen & played. Still wish I had it for the occasional blast of Crimson/Yes/Genesis. I've been playing mainly vintage rock over the past several years so my main gigging tools are a 96 Custom Shop Fender delux with the very powerful John Suhr pickups & pre amp, rosewood, block inlay & bound neck & light natual body that realy punches the tones, also use a mint 62 EB3 & a Lakland 5 delux. Hope you like the picks, Munk.

Hi Beedster, I've still got the CS Jazz, its my main gigging instrament alongside my 62EB3, I cant ever see me parting with it, quite unique with those 4 pole pups. Also have a 73 Jazz that I dont use if your interested down the line. Unfortunatly, yellow & rear porting are not for me although the price is realy fantastic. If it was a black 610hlf I'd snap it up. Good luck, it must go for this price, cheers, Munk.
