1.
It also says the module is 2.5 ohms stable on the spec sheet for the ICE module.
Yep, i believe that the D800 and at least also the Magellan800 state that in their specs, both use the same (...ahem... ) ICE.
2.
Darkglass day is here. I am so excited about this amp. http://darkglass.com/microtubes-900/
So Doug went all Genz Benz and found a way of making that ICE700ASC pump out 900W? Or is there a new B&O module i haven't heard of?
3. Hi, sorry for asking these basic questions but let's do some trouble shooting first: Are you connecting the FX Loop SEND to the pedal's INPUT and the pedal's OUT to the amp's FX RETURN? This is the correct way to hook it up, i've found some similar problems in the past (mainly with guitars using Wah pedals and connecting them the wrong way around). If everything is connected as it should but not working then i would see if the amp has any kind of bypass switch for the FX Loop that may be switched off. All things failling then it's time to take it to a technician for repair.
4.
Gotoh 201 is a straight fit for MIM Fenders, and is quite reasonably priced.
I was scrolling down with this answer in mind when i saw that you beated me to it. Can't go wrong with a Gotoh 201, excelent quality with more mass and more durable than the BBOT for a very good price.
5. You can try a Yamaha type batterry box, i believe they're bigger: These are net photos, there's a piece of tape on the batterry lid but you can get an idea. These are definetly bigger as the battery is fitted on it's larger side, so it will require a bigger but shallower hole to be fitted in your bass. I'll see if i can find a better pic of it and post here or i'll take some from my own bass when i get home. Don't worry, there's allways a fix for everything, you just need to take the bass to a proper luthier this time.
6. Jazz into TH500 into MB cabs and you get a nasal sound... well, IMO the amp is the less culprit of this. MB cabs have their own voicing and they tend to be very nasal and lack that full range definition. A Jazz can also sound nasal very easilly. I would try different bass/cabs before dissing the amp. IME that amp should be able to have more than enough "heft" on stage (unless you're not going through PA), i have the same power amp module in a different brand (GB Shuttle 9.2) and i have all the low end i need on stage.
7. Not all DISCO but great bass lines and inspiration from the past: http://youtu.be/hCDAfa-NI-M http://youtu.be/-xTGrfs5TXM http://youtu.be/gkgoRtxzeHY http://youtu.be/T0ZGNGBNIL8 http://youtu.be/rrBx6mAWYPU http://youtu.be/3GwjfUFyY6M
8.
The above pic is interesting... I was going to say 10k plus... but how do you really know? I do recall the gig was in a stadium and the football pitch was full...how many people can you get on a football pitch, ..?? I also recall the P.A was supposed to be 20kw and was a huge row of JBL 4550 cabs. and PiL had caused a riot there a few days previously over security, iirc..
Yep, that's my idea +10k, you can't really tell in the pic but the crowd streched all the way down that avenue (notice the public light posts) and also to a large space on the right of the picture. I'm sure the organization has streched their numbers but it was a big crowd. After us there was a big national artist playing that's now in the top charts so that place was packed. The cool thing about these gigs is that they're actually easier to do than a pub gig as you don't have the audience standing right in front of you in a way you can easilly make eye contact. You just get detached from all those folks in the dark and focous on your band mates and your playing. It was excelent. Tonight i'll be doing another open door gig but probably with less people, again opening for another big name. Should be fun!
9.
What a beautiful setting for a gig...music stand or no...
10. Regarding the obstruction of the audience subject. Here's a pic of a gig i was dep'ing last weekend. There's no need to have the stand in front of me, i just use it to take a look at the chords or tab before a song. It's not in the way of anything. BTW, that was a Rock band.
11. I'll drive as far as it's needed as long as the travel expenses are covered in the gig's price. The further we travel the higher the price of that gig. We price our gigs that way, we have a fixed amount per musician, add the travel costs and (if the venue want's a reciept) the taxes on top of that.
12. I'm not ashamed to use a stand if it's needed. I also feel like they don't look proper Rock&Roll on stage but they're a tool for a job, like a tuner (would people judge you as a bad musician if they see you using a machine to tune your instrument instead of using your ears?). I've done it in situations where i was dep'ing for another bass player or i was getting together with old bands for that occasional reunion gig. I allways knew the songs of my current bands from memory and don't/didn't need a stand but there are gigs where you can't just simply memorize/remember a 40+ songs setlist in less than one week.
13. This last new years eve we played an outdoor gig, from what i could see in front of my i would say it would be at least +10k in front of me. In the next day the organization revealed a number of ~30k for that night. It was a very cool gig, we were meant to finish our gig 1 minute before midnight so they could have the countdown and the fireworks after. As we ended the gig the organization told us that it was early and we had to play another song. We chose a rock song to go out big, half way through the song people started counting so we stopped the song after a chorus and finished the countdown on stage. As the midnight came with all the fireworks we looked at each other and decided to finish the song playing one more chorus of Highway To Hell! What a great way to start the year!
14. I got Flea, not bad as i'm more in to Funk but i bet i would have got Nathan East if there was another option for the $10.000 bass purchase. I would choose to buy a hand full of Yamaha basses instead of a single Fender.
15. You don't need to split the cabs to get better sound. The rig is able to cope with both low and high register notes, just be aware of any farting noises comming out of the cabs and turn back the volum if needed. If your EQ for the guitarrish parts doesn't need to be changed i believe that a octave pedal (1 octave up, i presume) could work. Start by working with what you've got at home, see if friends are able to lend you some gear to try other ideas and go from there. You should only spend money when you're almost convinced that it'll work.
16. No need to spray 2 times, just get some stencils and spray each letter or have a custom stencil made in a graphic store with your band's logo. Another option (non invasive and fully reversible) is to have the logo printed/stenciled/painted in a piece of cloth and cover the grill with that.
17.
I've been playing for a number of years, but my technical knowledge of amps is very limited, so guess I'm a noobie in this field. Recently I've been jamming with a drummer friend of mine, and we're thinking of starting a bass and drums duo - just a fun side project. I'm really into bands like Royal Blood, The Carps and Death from above 1979, heavy overdriven/fuzz sound. So this is what I'm thinking, and correct me if what I want to do won't work: Bass > OD/fuzz > Boss LoopStation > Stereo chorus > A/B pedal > Amp head (2 channel) > Cabs (210 and 115) So, what I want to basically do is send all the lowend to the 115 cab, and all the highs/treble to the 210 cab - so can I do this with a head with 2 channels? Musically, what I want to achieve is (on some songs) play a simple bass riff, constantly loop it using the LoopStation, and then play heavy (fake) guitar OD/fuzz stuff over it, to make us sound more like a full band.
Reading this again i think you can get away without using amp channels and A/B pedals, just use something like this: Bass > Preamp pedal with EQ or HPF > OD/Fuzz > Chorus > Loop Station > Amp head (single channel) > Cabs (without splitting signal) 1st - Record a bass line: Preamp off, OD/Fuzz off, Chorus at teaste, Loop on, Amp EQ'd for your bass sound. Play and record loop. 2nd - Guitar(ish) riff: Preamp on (or High Pass filter) cutting out the low frequencies and EQ to tailor your tone to taste, use OD/Fuzz generously like Lemmy would want you to, Chorus if you want - leave amp's EQ alone, after setting up in the first step. I think that this way you can get something close to what you're looking for and won't set you back a lot, a Behringer BDI21 is very cheap and highly regarded on this forum.
18.
I've got two passive PJs, both of which are pretty silent. One has a split-coil J at the bridge - if I back off onto that, I need to nudge the amp to compensate. The other has a fat humbucker at the bridge. When I back off to that, I don't need to do anything to the volume. It's a beast. Maybe you need to go down that route?
This ^ The best (and cheapest) way to balance a P pickup is with a humbucker. For me, personally, i find that it sounds better than the single coil J. There are split coil J's in the market, they're a bit expensive, and it will be hard to find one that has an output to match the P, but they're out there somewere, you just need to search hard or send your P to a builder and order them a custom split J to match.
19. I believe that Gallien Krueger and Trace Elliot (back in the days) did some bi-amp gear, you can try searching there.
20. Most 2ch-amp heads i know only allow for one channel operation at each time. A rack with a 2 channel preamp or a preamp with build in x-over and a 2ch poweramp should be your best bet.
21. I allways practice at home and rehearse with my band sitting down. Once the song is learned i play it a couple of times standing up as i use the bass a bit lower - it's the position where i feel more comfortable and don't stress my arms, i'm not a tall guy - and because of that there's some difference in left hand angle aproach to the neck. For me it's enough to spend 3 to 4 hours a gig playing standing up, i don't need to hurt my back more practising in the same position. There are some songs that i know from the start that they'll need some standing up practice (fast lines and note changes from one end of the board to the other) but it's easy to adjust from sitting to standing. On another related issue, i learn songs and do rehearsalls with my eyes closed most of the times but play live with them open. I find that it helps my muscle memory to play without constantly looking at the neck and if i find a dark stage i won't be struggling to fing the correct notes. It's also good to be looking at the audience and very occasionally "sing*" some chorus. I've played live both sitting and standing, i don't think that a band needs to allways be standing up, it's all related to the type of gig/venue/situation, sometimes is better (visually) to have the band sitting down, it creates a more intimate setting. (*) Important note, i'm the bass player, so i can't carry a tune even if my life depended on it!
22. I allways unplug my bass(es) when not in use, it drains battery plugged in. I can't have a passive system in the TRB as it has active pickups so i allways have a spare battery at hand during gigs. When the battery is dying the sound fades a bit and a low volume "wistle", like a feedback, comes out of the amp so i have enough time to finish a song and replace a battery before the next one. I wouldn't gig a bass without a quick release battery cover (i.e. battery fitted inside control cavity needing screw removal to get access) unless it was fitted with something similar to a Glock preamp - these preamps have active/passive operation and from all brands i've tried they're the ones that have absolutely no difference in volume/tone between passive and active.
23. Ohhhh! this would look perfect next to my '85 1000S!!! It's a shame that i currently can't afford it. Good luck with the sale
24. Obvious and completely biased answer from me: YAMAHA Will tick every box.
