Well, yes - I can do a Google image search to see what one looks like. However...
You just made my point. If you need to google for a image of a multimeter then i strongly advise you to take the bass to a tech. Soldering and taking multimeter readings on a bass wiring isn't something that can be explained in a post. You need to read through a lot of threads to gather as much information as you can and then practice a bit in old knackered PCB's before you risk doing more damage than good to your bass. Now, if you did recognised the multimeter or even had one of those around the house, i could tell you to turn it on in the "ohms" setting and check continuity over your wiring. You would need to be aware of how the pots and cap influence the readings to check if everything is fine. Again, you should really start by shielding the entire bass with copper tape with conductive glue. Then, if the hum continues, look at other options. We're here to help, and even though sometimes i enjoy a good laugh/joke, i posted the pic to help you, not to make fun of you.

Bored in the car: tone OR playability - you can only choose one...
I never voted at all. I don't believe in 'plays like butter' or in 'tone of the gods' so I reject both options.
Here you go: Not only plays like butter but it's also a Precision. Case closed! Edit: [s]no pic... i'll take care of that[/s] done! -
Spain.
Ah, i see... i was thinking about it and was under the impression that it was on that place where little bearded people lived under a rainbow and guarded their pot while they smoke a pipe... ...Amsterdam if i'm not mistaken!
Not sure... something about the art of the Iberian Peninsula, I think.
Oh! Where's that? Never heard of the place...
Yes. I'm very rarely serious on this forum - unless it's a Barefaced thread.
I also come here for a good laugh in those dead moments at work. Now, back on topic again... what was this one about?
I could get away with using a Jazz and a Precision for my covers band (and yes, we play Crazy Little Thing Called Love) but i prefer to only use my TRB and have a far better tone that those two basses put together along with more comfort and playability.

I am slightly uncomfortable with your implication that one sort of bass is superior to another.
You should buy a Yamaha to take care of that discomfrot then, like i said in my previous post i feel very comfortable with mine.
Just start a Barefaced thread - people will be queuing up to disagree with you for reasons not even they are aware of.
Now you're just messing with me, aren't you?
Absolutely - it's my day job which is why I feel so strongly about it.
I don't even know the basics of PS (just use pixlr for gig posters) and i could see right away how bad it was made. If it were done professionally then it would be a great April's foul joke and perfectly believable. They could even had it posted on their site, i find the general idea very original adn i'm always up for a good laugh, just a shame it was done like this.
A multi-meter!? Not sure what one of those is, being honest.
When using copper tape you should use one with conductive glue or you'll need to drop a bit of solder to join every piece together in continuity. Spraying with conductive paint is a good solution but you need at least 2 or 3 coats to have a funcitional end coat and even doing that paint isn't as good shield as copper, is more suitable for grounding. Having said that, i had a buzz on a Ken Smith i used to own, opened the control plate and saw that the conductive paind had sunk in the wood during it's lifetime. After checking with Ken himself i sprayed 3 new coats of graphite spray and added a new wire from the electrics ground screwed on the wood through the paint. Problem solved! Reading the OP's last post regarding the hum comming from the bridge pickup - this is completely normal as the P pickup is humbucker, so hum-canceling, and the J is single coil. That doesn't mean that the J pickup is knackered or there's a fault in the electronics, the J is more prone to show earth/rf problems. I would strat by shielding/grounding the entire bass before taking the soldering iron to the electrics.

Here are my beauties: I'm still missing a 5-string J/J, maybe a BBNE2 or a BB2005 would complete my collection.

Playability, every time. I find that any bass i pick up will eventually end up sounding like me so the tone part is taken care of. Even if it's a really bad tone it can be upgraded to sound better. A bass that's a love child of a sledgehammer and a cricket bat can't be upgraded to feel nicer. -
Appart from that being posted on April 1st the "relic" job is photoshopped. It's easy to notice if you have the picture big enough. Here are the most notorious tells: In this pic, the worn on the body on the arm rest not only removed the clear coat but it also removed the hole top wood leaving it with something with a different grain.... Even though the neck is worn and descoloured it still can shine a flash like a mirror??? It's obvious that Fodera wouldn't ruin a $$$$ bass just for an April's foul joke, it's cheaper to pay for photoshop but they could have paid a bit more for a more beliavable job.

Ahahah. If it can track a bass it's the solution for the "bass player that can't sing" syndrome!

I have a BB1000S and also don't know the current market value for it. '85 MIJ necktrough, best sound i've heard from any P and P/J that have gone through my hands. BB basses are very underated but don't spread the word...

"Who farted?"

Yep! Shield the bass and don't forget to connect the ground to the shielding so it's also grounded properly. Problem solved!

I think that the gain on the preamp is there so you can match your bass output to optimal leval for the preamp so if you push it hard (specialy with a high output bass) you can risk damage to the preamp or at least make it go in protection mode and cut the sound. There are exceptions like preamps with a valve on it where they can be pushed in to drive without harm but i think that both your amps aren't designed to do this. There are other solid state amps that have a drive integrated on their design and will be safe to do it. Full valve amps are another story and they'll gladly overdrive as much as you like. The safest bet is to send a mail to EBS and TC and ask if their designs will take the signal without harm. Getting a used B3K won't be too expensive and you'll have a lovely drive, much better than the clipping on the amp. This is all IMO and i'll be gladly corrected on this.

I've been "Bass GAS" free since i've got the TRB 5PII (and i think i'm permanently cured) but that didn't stop me from having "Backup Bass GAS"...

I truly believe that if you ever get to the point of putting enough power in both cabs at the same time so that the one10 farts out i'll be able to hear you over here in Portugal... Seriously now, the power handling isn't an issue, it's the voicing from both cabs that may not mix well. You should talk to Alex and ask him for advice.
This is also very true. We bassists obsess about tone, but almost nobody else can hear any difference between bass x and bass y (or amp x and amp y) at all! The rest of my family and my bandmates are utterly bemused by the idea that I would ever need more than one bass - after all, they all sound the same, don't they?
Off Topic: Naa. There are a lot of people that notice the bass. I get complimented a lot for my tone... well not my tone really, they don't notice the tone itself, its more that "my sound" is more flat(ish) and has mids so it cuts through like a hot knife in butter and people (and other band members) can actually hear my notes and understand the lines i'm playing so they end up noticing the bass. When someone uses the standard Precision through Ampeg with a "V" EQ the bass is more "felt" rather than "percieved" by the audience. Nothing wrong with this, just diferent takes on the same thing. /Off Topic

I also like a versatile bass and i've been using them for a lot of years. With my current bass i can go form Jazz to Modern to Precision just rotating the balance knob and adjusting right hand position. If i add a little EQ boosting a tad the lows and cutting slightly on the mids i can get away with a Stingray(ish) sound. I like having a versatile bass because i play in a covers band and in our set we have songs from reggae to funk to rock and i use diferent settings for each type of music, i could get away with a Jazz but never with a Precision as i need the brige pickup for tone in a lot of songs.
That's interesting! I quite like that artificial sort of tone, but then that goes with the style of music I tend to play and listen to. The way I play the two types of string sound really close! But then I do scoop the mids a bit as well
aha! there you go! question answered.
What do you find are the differences in sound are between the Pro & Flex?
I really don't hear much difference, both get me my tone easily, even all around and with all the clarity and punch in the world without being too bright. The Flex sound a little bit brighter but at the same time less "piano-like", probably a good word would be smoother but with more "air" when comparing with the Pro. The Flex aren't as harsh to the touch when new as the Pro but they still need some time to feel right. I wish D'Addario would find a way to take care of this harshness, either using lubrication in the strings before packaging or sending a bit of lubricant with each set of Pro/Flex. I never used fast fret or other products but since changing to Pro/Flex i've been aplying a layer of Dunlop String Conditioner everytime i put a new set in my basses just to help with those first couple of days.
