1.
Oh, yeah, it's for stuff on your computer, not stuff online.
Yep, but it's still a nice cheat for those pics that i currently can't link directly to BC. Thanks for the tip.
 2.
Thanks for the tip, i'm going to try it.
Tried it with a pic i wanted to use (from google images search) on a post. Worked a treat with tinypic.com but i still had to download the pic in to my computer then upload to tinypic and then use the URL to link to the post. Surely it had to be a more direct way to link google searches pics to the forum without all these steps, i used to work directly. Has something changed on BC's platform?
 3.
I use tinypic.com to upload stuff. It works very well. You don't have to register or do anything fancy.
Thanks for the tip, i'm going to try it.
 4.
If it only happens at gigs it sounds like somebody else in the band is stomping all over those frequencies.
It was my first thought but then the OP posted this:
This is definitely not the EQ thing, I have played it through many different amps, as I am at music uni at the moment, and we perform every week on stage and play rehearsals in different rooms, I used different bass as well as other students with different basses after or before me playing at exact same settings would not have any problems. That's why I thing that the only things left are pickups or the pre-amp, but I think I have replaced the preamp before when I had some other problems, but for exactly the same model. Now it is narrowing down to the pick ups I guess. But I am not sure what could go wrong with them.
If this is true it must be some kind of problem with the bass. I still can't figure out why it only shows with band, if there's a problem on the pickup or preamp it should be even more noticeable when playing alone...
 5.
Yeah thats it - i thought i'd seen one on here some moons ago. A non UK BC member was selling some J basses and he put video clips up of the sounds of these basses, and in the clip was using a demeter HPB-1. Hey, what a memory i got Mind you - i bet the Dem is about 5 times the price of the PB-1
Ahahaha, i think you won't believe how cheap they are. I've got my PB-1 for 120€ and the Ashly for 140€, both used of course, if i remember it correctly.
 6.
If a cab is badly designed or made it could vibrate. If it is well designed it won't. Light cabs have internal bracing precisely to stop them vibrating. As I said in another thread a cab that vibrates is like a car with a slipping clutch. Good cabs will put their sound out through the speaker and port rather than wasting it on vibrating the cab. The cab mentioned earlier was probably moving because the sound waves were vibrating the box it was sitting on so non slip mats would work without affecting the sound of the cab.
Thanks for explaining that in a better english than mine. You're 100% right.
 7.
"For God's sake don't sing".
Ahahah! I can relate to that!
 8. Photobucket is in the process of stop alowing the share of hosted pics unless you're a payed customer. I've also been having problems with uploading pics. I used to do it with Picasa (now Google Photos) and it doesn't work anymore. When i try to link them in a post i get showed the message "you are not alowed to use this image extension on this board" or something similar. The same things happens with a few images i find on google searches, i used to copy the image URL and paste on the post with the "image button" and now there are a lot of pictures that i can't link, been shown the earlier message.
 9.
The non slip pad is absorbing the energy wasted that was previously shifting the cab. It won't be making the baffle any more stable. Energy is also wasted within non or poorly braced enclosures as the cab walls flex.
Not entirely true as the anti-slip mat adds friction and counteracts the momentum making the cab more stable and keeps it from moving forward/backwards. It doesn't absorv every vibration. In any case i have more than enough SPL's available not to bother with the lost energy. But, OTOH, what about line arrays that hang from a chain? They're not rigidly fixed so they can move a bit and also loose energy!. If we were going to go to the extreme we should all bolt our cabs to the ground because even a big hefty cab (oh, i said that word again...) will vibrate and move to some extend.
 10.
(...) Having written this though I have thought that is the pickup is ceramic or another bar magnet and it has broken, with part falling away from the pickup. Them the poles would be come demagnetised and the volume level of those strings would be much lower. So go ahead restrung so that the strings seed opposite to the way you normally have them. This will tell you wether the PUPs are at fault,
Yep, it was my thought. I think that just getting a spare G string on the B position and use it in a band reharsall/gig and compare both G strings to see if both are dull or not should crack this mistery.
 11.
Aha! They're out there - thanks GB. Didn't one of the Demeter pre's contain a Q sweep ?
Here you go: It's not labeled as "Q", i think it's "width" but basicly it has two sweepable para-mids with Q control. Nice catch, i wasn't remebering this one.
 12.
Here's a question based on the fact that 'every action has an equal and opposite reaction'. Speakers work like pistons with the voice coil and cone being forced back and forth within the speaker frame/cage. Is it possible that in very light weight speaker cabinets that the speaker box is moving very slightly in the opposite direction to the cone? If you were to put a heavy weight on top of a light weight cab would it reduce any reactive movement of the cab and increase the acoustic energy from the speaker. Maybe 'heft' comes from stability of the baffle? All I know is that my 40 pound 112 cabs have more h**t than my 25 pounders.
I had my Barefaced Super12T (2x12") with a SS amp on top (Thunderfunk TFB550) move a bit too much on an outdoor gig. It was on top of a flyghtcase wich is a very smooth surface and it didn't help that the bass player that was borrowing my rig was in a thrash metal band In the end of the gig it was too close to the edge of the flyghtcase for my likings... I've started to take with my a couple of anti-slipping matts, one to put between amp adn cab and another to go unederneath the cab's feet. Never had a movement since.
 13.
Not sure where the perceived negative feeling has come from - everything seemed moderately above board to me (compared to other discussions), the OP asked for reasons not go buy a micro amp & got them - the average response being that most people saw them as a sonic compromise that is balanced out for many by the portability. I don't personally know any bassists that think class-D sounds better than traditional amps but I do know a lot that use them. Discussion forums are all about people putting their opinions across - if you don't like that don't participate or start a thread stating your position & looking for agreement. For example; I could start a thread titled "Reasons for not buying a tube amp" and everyone would respond saying they're heavy & expensive, then discussion would start around whether they're worth the cost/weight which of course they may or may not be.
You should have another read at the posts.
 14.
What i'd like to see on the pre section of an amp, for a change, is instead of just the usual mid freq adjustments, actually add a Q sweep, like the filter on ACG bass pre's I dont remember seeing such an addition on amps, though there may well be some out there with this function
It's not a bass amp but a preamp. I used to own one and only sold it because i already had the Alembic. The PB1 is a very nice preamp: Another preamp, doesn't have a "Q" control as wide as the Yamaha but it sounds very good (also had one back in the day):
 15.
Heft is an unmeasurable parameter only present in Valve Amps. It is proportional to weight and the real subtlety of heft comes from the light of the valve heaters.
It's true! You sure know what you're talking about!
 16.
Heft
Who?
 17.
They're too light, people prefer amps that weigh around 12kg. Tone Hammers tend to blow away in the slightest breeze.
Hey... don't get me started...
 18.
(...) Have you had any thoughts on the electrics...mixing the piezo/mags ? Ian
As a coincidence yesterday i was looking at this: http://noll-electronic.de/bass-electronics/mixpot/ May do the trick.
 19.
No problem, it's just another excuse for posting a pic of our Hiwatt..!
Hahaha! Looks very pretty... and heavy...
 20. And if the problem happens with only one of the pickups then is most likely that it's knackered.
 21. Back OT, for me the only reason for not going micro is if you still haven't found one you like the sound. The same principle applies to every bit of kit you think about purchasing.
 22.
I'll defend the almighty heft to my dying day, but you don't necessarily get it from all-valve amps exclusively. ...It's just a lot more likely, that's all.
I agree.
 23.
Given how you feel, can I suggest it might have been wise to give a thread called 'Reasons for not going micro?' a fairly wide berth..?
That's actually a good idea! Do you think my inbox will be filled with hate mail very fast? Can i get some extra storage space?
