Isn't that battery compartment too close to any bridge screws or pickup routing? I woud have putted it towards the top horn so i could keep the most wood possible on the central block to help with ressonance but i'm not a luthier and i know nothing about this science Looking good
I have, but only for vocal monitors as part of a pub PA setup. They're certainly small and light, but quite what would they kick out with a bass I can't say. I believe the keys player may have had one for his foldback at times too, but I don't know what his experience was with them.
I had one of the Mackie's this was copied from. It can't hold a bass without speaker farting, it's excelent for vocals and guitar but that's it. If you hook up a bass you either have to turn the volume down or cut a lot of bass but that results in a thin sound. I wouldn't reccomend this for bass use.

I had one, loved it and sold it because i also thought it would drive too early. It was hard to get a clean sound from a single 112 with enough volume to hold its own against the drums. If it was today i would try fitting a 5751 valve on the preamp (only about 60% gain) to see if it could be pushed further without getting dirty. My flat'ish setting was with the mid all the way up and bass and treble at about 11 o'clock. Para EQ pretty much flat except for a cut on the 30hz like WoT described. i wish i hadn't sold it...
Barrel jack? Replace it, not much else you can do, everything's internal. http://www.maplin.co...is-socket-n39gb
+2 They all eventually fail and are impossible to fix. Get a new one.

TRB's don't suck batteries, there's a problem there. Either is the bass that's somehow shorting the battery or is you that don't unplug the jack when not using the bass...

You can just see it there on the left, behind me. God! How i was thin back then... need to go on a diet!

I used to do that with my old trace combo. TE 1215 GP12 I got a flightcase for it (like it wasn't already f***ing heavy) and used it on top of that. About 80cm to 1m off the floor with big casters. It improved my onstage comfort a lot. My sound stopped sounding muddy and thumpy, i gained clarity wilst retaining the TE punch and i started to use a lower volume setting, so what's not to like? Go for it if you think you can handle the extra weight
I ordered a VT5 (that's a PJ to you and me), fretted, sunburst, hard core aged. I specified my preferred weight and balance and they nailed that too. Order went as smooth as you like and was about 3 months to make IIRC.
Just to add, i also specified that i wanted a light bass because of back issues and they chose a very light body and neck for me. Great service

When i ordered my VM5 i contacted the authorised dealer over here in PT and he send me a Sandberg form to fill with my choices for the bass. I belive that at that time i was quoted with 6 or 8 weeks for it to be finished and it arrived exactly on date. I had to pay a deposit before ordering (50%) but this can be specific to each store. No downsides when you end up with the bass that you want BTW, i only moved mine on to get funds for the Ken Smith, if the new owner haven't resprayed the body from a beautifull tobacco burst to black i would be all over it again.

F**k it! Leo got it right the first time, EVERY Jazz needs a stacked vol/tone control for each pickup with 2 resistors to prevent crosstalk. As simple as this!
KevB - trying out different scratchplates is certainly tempting... might have to see what I can find/dig up. Matt black perhaps.
Some ideas: Something along this lines would look the part

You can go for a cheaper alternative but those yellow stripes on the side look way cooler. https://www.punkrockshop.co.uk/detail/musical--instruments/strbwck&cur=AUD&cur=GBP?category=musical--instruments&code=strbwck&cur=AUD&cur=GBP
It did cross my mind to put a checkerboard on there somewhere... just couldn't work out where or how... plus thought I might regret it
Obviously you'll need one of these: link here: http://www.jeridesigns.com/checkeredguitarstrap.htm You're welcome!

Increase the size of the control cavity on a Precision
Ghost_Bass replied to Delberthot's topic in Repairs and Technical
An idea. Before you start carving attach the pickguard and use a permanent ink pen (the kind that washes away with alcohol) to trace the outline of the pickguard so you know that you won't be exposing the cavity when carving. This only works with laquer bodies, don't do it on a unlaquered body -

I tried a few of the ususal suspects and ended my drive quest with the Darkglass B3K. The Drive knob goes everywere from a sublte boost to full overdrive/fuzz'ish with lots of sweet overdriven tones in between.

Barefaced Cab Problem (and I can't get hold of them!)
Ghost_Bass replied to misterook's topic in Amps and Cabs
What's the problem? Maybe someone here may help. The guys at Barefaced usualy take some time to answer mails because they are working on building cabs to clear their backlog but i find it very strange and a bit disturbing that they haven't replied you in a week! That's not very good after sales service IMO. -
There are at least two units up and running:

20Kg for the 210??? Is that a mispell? It's the same weight as my S12T...

Check out the classifieds, i'm selling my rack and i'm willing to split so if you want a 1kW amp that'll go down to 2ohms in stereo and 4ohms in bridge let me know. Cheers
Take it off and put on a 8 ohm one instead..?
Brilliant!!! Edit: when i first read Dad's post i read it as a joke, sugesting the OP to replace the sticker on the speaker. Now that i've read his post again i'm not so sure that was the intention but i laughed anyway
Interesting...Speaker is 6 ohms, but specs say 120w in 8 ohms. At practice it is on just 'two' on the vol knob. So a little loss of watts would not hurt. Cabinet is made from wood about 2cm thick. The speaker has a massive magnet, so that was why I had my first thoughts of exchanging it. I am also looking at other option, including another light weight combo.
Does the speaker say it's 6Ohm or are you getting that reading from a multimeter. I don't know the exact science on this but when reading with the multimeter you get a reading a bit below the nominal impedance of the cab and "only as a rule of thumb" it's normal to aply a 1.3 coeficient to get the aprox nominal impedance. Multimeter reading: 6ohm -> Nominal impedance: 6x1.3=7.8 ~ 8ohm driver.
Maybe we're using DI to mean different things ITT...
I understand you're talking about being asked by the sound guy to plug your bass directly to the DI box so he gets a clean signal on the mixer. What i was talking about is for you to get a DI box and plug the preamp output from your amp to it and then you'll be able to send balanced signal to a mixer with less noise. Doing this you'll still benefit from your amp's EQ and any fx going to the mixer. You won't get any benefit from the speaker's colour but... who wants his tone coloured by a speaker?!! Just get a nice transparent cab and do all the tone shaping on bass and amp! It's the best way to ensure that the sound you're feeding to the PA is the same you're hearing behind you. I'll run for cover now...
