Doesn't mather how hard or resistent the piece of gear is, it's never intended to be thrown in a van without care. If the compact you had has falling appart is because maybe it wasn't properly conditioned in the van. This could have happened to an Ampeg fridge, every piece of gear can be broken if not handled propperly! My band does pub gigs and we use a Mercedes Vito van to haul the gear and ourselfes (we're a trio), the gear we own costed us a great amount of hard earned money and we have a lot carefull when loading and unloading so that our gear can serve us for a very long time. We would never throw a bass bin on top of other gear, it's allways the first thing to be loaded and the light gear is placed on top of that.
It's all relative really. The heaviest "light" cab is still a light cab, and the lightest "heavy" cab is still a heavy cab... Having used (and owned) a number of Barefaced cabs, their lightness always amazes me. They all have slightly different tones (although some people say that they don't like the "Barefaced tone"!) but of course, their tones are not for everyone and every situation. I like them, but I don't get offended when people say that they don't! In the last couple of years, the range of "very light" cabs has increased - with representatives from manufacturers such as Vanderkley, Purple Chili, TKS, Bergantino, Markbass, Gallien-Krueger, Genz-Benz (and others I have no doubt forgotten!) as well as Barefaced. All offer different solutions to the various problems of weight, tone, volume, style, finish and build quality, etc. It is a very interesting section of the market and if you have a budget of over £500 (per cab) then you really have a lot to choose between! I find myself rather envious!
Great post To OP: A couple of trips to a few music stores and maybe the goodwill of some basschatters may help you try different pieces of gear and choose for yourself what suits you best.

I've heard both the DB750 and the DB659 preamp and they are definetly diferent creatures. I don't know how much this was due to the power amp used with the preamp but IMO if you're aiming for the sound of a DB750 then only a DB750 will satisfy you

I'm still very happy with my Super12T. 19Kg with a power handling of 1000W+ and up to date is the most honest sounding cab i've ever tried. Great tight lows, natural clear and balanced mid range (not scooped and definetly no spikes) and highs that won't hurt my ears. Haven't found a lighter 2x12" with an output that comes close. These cabs have popped in the FS section on the forum in the £500-£600 price range.

Sold a Darkglass Duality to Wolfgang. Great guy to deal with. All PM's were answered on time and payment was very fast. I would reccomend him for business any time. Thank you Marco
(...) I need to look at light things. Maybe a Barefaced with a tweeter?
If you liked the weight and power handling i would say it's a possibility. Maybe a Big Baby 2 model. The tweeter will definetly add the clarity you lacked in that occasion.
Oh, I like the ATKs I just don't consider them a "Stingray clone".
Ah! OK, this clears things up!
-
(...) I would not go for any other "clone" no matter how pretty.
I had a SR5 and a few years latter got my hands on a Japanese ATK305 so i have to say that you should consider changing your mind about this EDIT: currently don't own any of those because of the same issue - they're heavy as hell!!! - but the ATK had the SR vibe, only... more!

More attack? Humm... perhaps a Smith or a MM Bongo. -
Please thank Doug for comming up with the B3K. The best pedal ever made!

Generally only (power) valve amps need a cab connected to be safely operated, no problem with solid-state (class AB/D/etc.) amps even when they do have one or more valves on the preamp.

I heard one and sounded very good to my ears, i haven't explored it to know pros and cons though.

I understand all the theory but i had front and back firing cabs and in a small pub stage having a back firing port next to a wall only helped increasing the amount of boom on stage (i'm not into that, i like a mid-focused bass sound and let the PA worry about the bottom-end stuff), besides nothing beats that cool brise running up one's shirt after hitting a low note I think that a shelve in conjuction with the grille/frame (see the 2x12/2x15 pic on bassmayem's post above) would look lovely and the extra height in the cab would only help bring a 2x112 setup closer to ear level. You should have this option available on your cabs

Basicly, if you go through PA you don't need a sub but if you're going straight in to the room then a sub could be usefull - be prepared to have a muddy stage sound if you do it though.

I use this one: It's great because the "arms" are adjustable so i can get them at the same height for my S12T or one higher than the other to fit my promethean at an angle. Here's a link: http://www.thomann.de/gb/rockstand_rs_23010b_combo_stand.htm

The looks, size and weight are amazing, i'm only sorry that in the newer series the port had to be sent to the back. I like a front firing port, add that to a S112 and i may just start saving money for two of those...
TRB 5Pii is a hell of a bass for sure, how does it differ from the TRB5P?
PJ configuration: TRB5PII: TRB5P: EDIT: Appart from the PU difference it also looks a bit smaller on the body so it should be lighter... i think...

I've got this recently from Kev in a trade because i wanted to try it but i don't have use for a fuzz pedal in any of my current projects. It's brand new with box and candy, no scratches or unwanted noises and the sound is awesome. [s]I'm asking for £160 shipped to EU/UK[/s] SOLD!!! No pics at the moment so i'll leave you with two videos: Not looking for anything in particular for trade so hit me with what you got (no behringer or squier type gear please, only top of the line stuff) EDIT: I could go on a part-ex for a EHX B9 Organ Machine, just to try it. Cheers Marco

It's a shame, love my TRB5PII and i wont let it go. I would love to find a TRB5P to add to my collection but they're hard to come by... I also hope that they release new bass amps, after the BBT500H amp and cabs they haven't released nothing! I loved the PB1 preamp i used to have, only sold it because the F1X took its place. Also loved the sound of a B100II head, glorious!

Very lightweight, excelent definition and clarity, noiseless, versatile, reliable, good components, killer DI. Don't have much low-end extention (for me this is actually a pro, i allways have PA support, don´t need mud on stage) I think this sums it up
-
There's no such thing as a "too wide neck", only an oportunity for a 5-string conversion!

I did a part-ex with Kev, his Darkglass Duality for my Wren&Cuff TFR plus some cash. Kev is a great guy to deal with, all PM's answered and the pedal arrived just as described. I would certainly deal with him again in the future. Reccomend Thank you Marco
