Low notes caused the farting sound. [/quote] Same happened to me with a old Trace Elliot Combo, the spider came loose on a spot in the glued joint where the spider attaches the cone. A bit of contact glue solved it and that amp is still running strong with a friend playing in a punk rock band. The best way to spot this is really by pressing the spider with your fingers and see if it's loose.

[/quote] Only? 23Kg is way too heavy for a cab these days, you can get neo 112s weighting around 10kg each and my 212 weights 19kg. I had a Aguilar DB112 that weighted about the same as that Ampeg and i moved it because it was way too heavy to move around. I'm not a weak person, i just don't need any more back injury

Racks are great for keeping things tidy but it's very easy for one to get too heavy. I have a 2U rack woth a preamp and a 1U poweramp and it's allready near the 15kg mark. I would like to replace the 2U rack for a 3U one and add a Furman power conditioner but there goes another 6kg... if then i want to add the fx or another thing pretty soon i would be near the 30kg and that is impracticable for me. anyway i allways prefer having my pedals setup and secure on a pedal board where i can stomp them at will and don't have to face back to tune. For me portability is important that's why the rack only gets out to outdoor gigs, the small gigs are done with the promethean combo and on medium sized venus the promethean head drives the barefaced s12t.

The Eden seen on the video does help a lot to keep the low-end. When i have to use some slap lines i set my balance a bit more towards the neck pickup. I tend to keep my EQ flat(ish) on both the bass and amp, i only correct for the room and boost bass just a tad to feel the kick on the back.

If you're looking for Ashdown tone go for a couple of Mi10 cabs, around 10kg and 250W each. If you want a light 2x10 maybe a Genz Benz Focus if you can find one or something from the GK MB range or Hartke Hydrive. The Fender rumbles 112 (former series) were also very light and sounded good. If i remember correctly Evil Unded is/was selling a Promethean amp with a Rumble 112 cab, great little setup, light and loud and a great sound.

Glockenklang preamps are the best (IMO), they work just as the OP mentioned, on flat position there's absolutely no loss in volume when switching to passive. Maybe that Cort you have is fitted with a Glock (see if the pots are red) or something licenced by glock.

Cheap solution: - Stagg EUB + Harley Benton Bass Uke Expensive solution: - Yamaha EUB (can't remember the model) + Kala U-Bass Small, light and good sounding

D'Addario Prosteels are the brightest strings i've come across, great for top end. Try this and work with the bass's EQ first. I can get a very decent slap tone on my BB1025X using just the P pickup with the prosteels.

Finally, for £150 i'm pretty sure that you can find a great deal on BC's classified section for a great and more reliable head

Used a combo (ultrabass bx1200) as my main rig for 2 or 3 years, never missed a beat and sounded pretty decent. Band had a mixer wich performed well but eventually broke down. I have a small 2-channel USB mixer at home connected to my PC and it's going well for the past months. It's not great reliable gear but it will do the job. You need to be extra-carefull because it's more sensitive to malfunction and 9/10 times it can't be fixed (everything's PCB soldered with micro components). If money is a problem get this head, with 3 year waranty you can use it and save money from gigs to buy a better head, if it malfunctions in the meanwile you just send it back to the store and ask for a replacement.

Sounds like you should sell the MB and bag ends and buy a bigger AER rig.

Aren't you overdoing on the gain? Using fx between the bass and amp will make your signal have diferent strenghts regarding the pedals you're using/not using at a certain time. If you have your amp's gain set too high as default the extra signal that a pedal may bring may cause the amp to reach it's threshold and cut into protection mode. Try lowering the gain and raising the volume and see if it still cuts.

James says it goes a lot louder [/quote] And probably you should have listened to it louder. My S12T still amazes me (and everybody else sharing the stage) everytime i take it to an outdoors gig. It likes to recieve power, the sound comes alive at higher volumes and a wall of low end appears yet all the clarity and definition remains top notch. At low volumes it sounds very hi-fi but i need to EQ some bass in just to be able to feel that kick on the back. I'm currently running the Promethean combo in all small/pub gigs and keep the S12T to use in bigger/outdoor venues with the rack pushing it. Great review btw
