I never use a pick and have all the mid bite i need. Maybe you should try using a bit more of the bridge pickup (if your bass has one) and maybe pluck the strings closer to the bridge.

For me, the trick to get good sound from a classic fender tone stack preamp type is to max the mids and use both bass and treble around 2/10. That gives you a flat(ish) sound that cuts the mix beautifully. Depending on the room both bass and treble can be adjusted (up or down) but keep the mids maxed IMO. This is what i do with my F1X and it has beed sounding great everywere and with every bass i use. EDIT: this is in a live band setting, for recording or home practise you can put the knobs at 12 o'clock for the well known "V-shape EQ".

Am i the only one that wants to use the B3 as a 3 distinct pedal unit? I would like to find a site with presets for each individual Fx not for a whole patch. It's easier to kick in a fx in a part of a song then to have to select a diferent patch (remember that to go to patch selection you have to press the fist pedal thus activating/desactivating that designed fx for a second before the unit enters patch selection mode).

D. Lakin Basses new website - interesting read
Ghost_Bass replied to wateroftyne's topic in Bass Guitars
Had a read through the history. Good info on Lakland but none on this "new" basses. Not very good marketing IMO. -
The odd thing is that KiOgon's pic shows one of the "better" battery clips, normally we pay good money for top gear with this kind of cr*ppy clips: these are destined to fail, all of them!

Alternative pickups/pre for sandberg ken taylor5
Ghost_Bass replied to tbonepete's topic in Repairs and Technical
You're very wellcome Fair play on Sandberg for admitting that the basses are different and not trying to trick you in to spending money in replacing parts. Now you know the way to go and how to get what you want with the least investment in time and money. Good luck finding another KT5 like the one you had. Cheers -
I would say to keep both, each has its pros. I use the Promethean (either as combo or just the head with the S12T) in most of my gigs for portability but there's always the odd big stage gig or open air gigs (now in the summer) where i need to take the rack (power+F1X) with me.

When using an amp with graphic or parametric EQ i always cut everything below 80Hz. Even on the mixer i use the 75Hz HPF on my bass channel. No point in muddying the band's sound with unaudible thump (at least for the kind of music i play, definetly not dub ).

Furman power conditioner would be my choice, a tuner you can have on a pedal (and act as a mute at the same time), the same applies to a comp. I would rather have a pedalboard in front of me and use the extra space for the conditioner as it may save you from headaches caused by faulty venue electic instalations.

I think one of the loudest ever made was the Ernie Ball Earthwood Bass but they're not available anymore and the ones found second hand go for insane prices.

Over here i don't have the DI problem, normally the sound guys believe in me when i tell them that my amps DI is of good quality and none has ever asked me to unplug it a hook up to their DI. If someone insists i'll hook up to the BSS, it's the same for me, won't affect my amp's sound and the signal i'm sending to FOH is the same. There was one time though that the FOH had some noise in the bass channel and the guy insisted that the problem was with the Thunderfunk's DI and hooked up a Behringer DI wich reduced the noise (the -20dB pad was activated on that thing...). Shortly after a tech came up and said that he found the fault, it was one of the lines from their multi-cable. I ended up playing the set with the behringer and didn't bothered. That company isn't known for being the most professional and having the best gear...

There's the Demeter "Minnie" 800D. Not cheap though: http://www.juleamps.com/bass/de-monique.html
(...) I consider getting a Sansamp Paradriver to get a smooth vintage sound out of my budget TC Electronic BG250 combo. (...)
Doesn't this combo comes with that toneprint thinghy? Isn't there a SVTish preset for it? Regarding the main question i can't give you an opinion, i don't use any preamp pedal, for me it's all bout the bass's own preamp and the right hand placement. My amp always DI's to FOH pre-EQ and the amp's EQ is only there to correct any anoying freqs caused by the room.

You have our very own BC Shep's band "Our Helical Minds". Two-piece and great sound (don't know if it's the kind of sound you're looking for).
-
Either a short on the battery clip (they are very flimsy aren't they?) or somewere on the PCB. You need to open up the pedal, check for signs of dirt/rust/whatever on the PCB, give a good spray with contact cleaner (scrub with an old toothbrush if needed). You also need to ceck the battery clip with a meter to see if it's shorted or not. My best bet is that the clip needs replacing. Cheers

What about pairing this with an octave up pedal before the B9? Would it make it more "bass useable"?

I recently have done this for a friend on his B3. He only wants to use it for a couple of FX (chorus and reverb) in a couple of songs and he didn't like the idea of it not being true-bypass. It was hard to find a place to squeeze the switch in. I had to cut a bit of the chassis and one of the PCB's so i could fit the switch. I wen't for the millenium bypass due to it's small size. Here are some pics and a video where you can also see the difference between the B3 in bypass mode vs true-bypass (it seems like there isn't any tone sucking going on there, there's a difference but vey slight):

This is not an e-bay item but i couldn't think of another place to post it. So i was checking my facebook and being invaded with all kinds of spam and add banners when something caught my eye. A Red Sub for £230, i thought it could be a great backup for my Promethean. I went to their site and saw the estimated delivery date... http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/RedSub-BT500H-500W-Bass-Head/B1D?utm_medium=display&network=criteo&retargeting_or_placement=retargeting&utm_source=criteo

Not too bad but i would struggle to get on with the tuning in the first weeks...

I just found strange that i could clearly see the shadow of the headstock on the back wall but it didn't seam to be any sign of the background guitar player's shadow (especially the head) neither Adele's. Appart from that it doesn't look photoshoped to me... maybe Adele does like to play chords on a bass using it all the way to her right side and even doesn't need the right hand to pluck the strings... Tapping master, that's what she is!

Only 3 strings?
3+2 fine with me, too. 4+1 just looks too unbalanced somehow. IMHO, of course. 2+3 I don't like either. Looks bottom-heavy to me... bottom. Snort!
Bottom-heavy...
