Peavey DPC 1400X or KMT DC5? Other? Opinions!
Can't find any now , but the one I was thinking of , was the D2004 2nd hand . Go for around 5-700 pounds . Dood used to have one (though , what hasn't he had he he) . These are sort of the bottom end ones , but do a search on Google , and you'll be hard pushed to read any negativity about them .
That specific model doesn't do 4ohms in bridge mode. It' in fact does 1000W at 4ohms on stereo but i think it's silly to cart one poweramp channel not to be used, of course with class-D material this isn't a big issue. I'm close to closing the deal on the DC5, It's a class-H poweramp and does 1000W bridegd at 4ohms. More than enough headroom for me and plenty of power to push the S12T on a big stage if i ever need it. -
Surprised no ones mentioned Powersoft yet . Not the mega expensive K range , but the more affordable 2nd hand cheaper ones - supposed to be really good
Well, i can only find the very expensive ones on the web. If you have any links for cheaper/used models i would apreciate. -

I don't mind the weight. I'm not looking for lightweight (i have that covered with the Promethean and the Thunderfunk). The DC5 is also heavy (10Kg) and a bit deep but that doesn't mather because the Yamaha PB-1 is a deep preamp and i can't use a shallow rack with it. Another thing i haven't posted on my topic is that the DPC 1400X is a 1400W class-D poweramp and the DC-5 is a 1000W class-H poweramp. I'm guessing that the DC-5, will sound a bit bigger than the DPC even with less power, what do you think? -
Hi, i'm looking for a 1U class-D poweramp wich can put out at least 1000W at 4ohms (bridge mode). I narrowed my choices at two (or three) amps: 1 - Peavey DPC 1400x: 1400W at 4ohms in bridge mode but very hard to find. Only one i see available is new and cost about £560. Has a fan but the link must be made through the terminals, either with a banana jack or with bare wire. 2 - KMT DC5: 1000W at 4ohms in bridge mode. I can get a new one with waranty for about £350. Has a fan and has a dedicated speakon output for bridge mode. 3 - Stewart World 1.2: 1200W at 4ohms in bridge mode. I can get a used, local one for about £400. It doesn't have a fan (and i've read people complaint about it shutting down due to overheating) and has to be linked with banana jacks or bare wire. I think you can tell from my description that the DC5 is the one with more appeal for me at the moment but i've been reading lots of good reviews on the Peavey amp. I'm looking for opinions of BC'ers who have tried or heard any of this amps. Whats the pros and the cons, etc. I have a fourth option on the table but it's in standby. It's one of the new Crest Audio Prolite 2.0 poweramps. 2000W at 4ohms 2U with dedicated speakon for bridge and retailing for about £525, new plus P&P. Oh! The chosen amp will be pushed by a Yamaha PB-1 (lots of output) and is going into my Barefaced S12T (~1200W at 4ohms). I'll never use it at full blast so don't worry because i'm not going to burn the cab. I'm just looking for the headroom, not the power. Cheers Marco
It made a sound but it was a weird sound. It was very quiet but also... hard to describe. It was what you might get if you just pressed a microphone against the body and played unplugged, rather than the pickups doing their thing. It was hard to compare the two basses. The Peavey has a volume and tone for each pickup. The V940 had both pickups wired to the 'blend' knob. The V940 pickups had two wires each, a ground and output. The Peavey had 5(!). A ground wire, a thin black one, a thin red one and then a thin green and thin white wire that were soldered to each other and then taped back out of the way. I didn't understand that at all, but that left me with three wires in play; the ground, the black and the red. I treated the ground and thin black as two grounds (because they're both black) and the red as signal. That's when I plugged it in and it made the sound I described earlier. So, I just panicked and ran away. Then I returned and resoldered the old Peavey eq into place.
You got those wirings wrong. If you can post some pics of both the Peavey's wires and the EQ you got from your V490 we can try to help you hook it up the right way. Cheers

Na, just try a couple of them to find out. Crest Audio and Crown are amongst the best you can get at reasonable prices on the used market.

From my recent experience i would say that a Pre+power setup beats a amp head. You have more of everything

Yep, have the tech contact Beta Aivin and see if he can source a replacement board. I believe that replacing the board won't be too much more expensive than spending a lot of time finding and replacing the faulty part.
OK - and so early this problems? By the way...Very good band in which you play bass! I have just visited your Facebook page. And the singer sings very well!
Thanks I bought this bass used over here (was the reason i joined basschat). It already came with that slack on the detent. Both pots work fine but the volume doesn't fully close the volume when completely turned off and the tone has slack. That's why i'm changing.
Thx for your fast answer! I searched this afternoon in the web and found this: www.partsimple.com ! As I gave the part numbers into the input-box the system found it immediately. I´ve ordered 3 parts and will wait what happens now. It´s a company from USA ;-)
Great! I also only ned to change the volume and tone on my TRB. The tone is also the worst knob because the center detent is almosty gone.

Hi Paulie The amp comes a bit shy of 15Kg. I really don't know much about it, like i stated on the add i got it just to clear some store credit and at the time it was the only resellable piece of gear i could find that would fit my current need for a power amp. Only thing i can say is that it packs a heavy punch and has what seems to be unlimited power! Hooking it to my S12T it makes her shine. Only reason i'm selling is because it doesn't mach well with the PB-1 (too much low end from each) and i prefer to keep the pre and change the amp than do the opposite. The Ashly maches the Ampeg very well, nice and smooth sound, defined and clear but i already have that sound covered with the Thunderfunk. I'm looking for some warmth and the PB-1 is the best alternative to the F1-X i can find at a very reasonable price. Cheers
