1. If i hadn't just bought a Smith i'd be all over this one, i'm GASing for one for too long and this is the exact colour scheme i want! Sadly i don't have anything in the 4-string department to offer you as trade... Good luck finding a good owner for it that will keep it nice and safe and will sell it to me a few months from now
2. Can't do a proper review for now. Had a gig in a very bad room for stage sound plus i had to play almost sitting on my S12T so all the mid/high range was lacking a bit because the tweeter was below my ears. I promisse to make a propoer review when i gig it in better conditions. But i can go ahead with this, the pedal sounds awesome, no bass lost whatsoever. I moved from a Pickle Pie B to this one and even with the clean blend i can say for sure that it hasn't got as much low end as the TFR. I'm loving it, just need to use it in a live situation and be able to hear it.
3.
not tried the deluxe bass big muff, but I used to own the std bass big muff. It was a decent enough pedal, but the tall font russian, for me, is so much better sounding. doesn't lose any bass, if anything it adds bass. i'm not interested in the new EHX pedals, not liked what I have tried. i can't see the point of a DI out on a fuzz, and I think if you want options, some of the more boutique builders are a better option (fuzzrocious, wren and cuff, etc). i don't personally go for the obsession with clean blends that a lot of folks have with dirt pedals - the stache and the TFR do not lose any bass, and sound huge. (...)
This is what i would have written if Gaz hadn't jumped in front. I won't vote on the poll because i haven't tried the Deluxe Muff but i wouldn't sell my TFR to buy a EHX
4. I have a East and a 3 band Glock at home waiting to go in their basses, i've tried both for comparison and liked the glock more. I'ts versatile and very musical. It needs to be properly maried with the bass like someone wrote earlier, but on the three basses that i've treid them the glock sonded better in all. In the end of the day the East will go on a friend's Geddy Lee and the Glock will either replace the 2 EQ Glock on my Sandberg or will go on my TRB (haven't tried on that one yet). It's all about taste, i find that the aggies are not of my liking and rather have the flat(ish) tone of the Glocks, others will think differently. Cheers
5. Well... that's odd! Not the part of LG or SF dying, that happens more often that we'd like to hear about it but happening to the same person with days of interval... humm... Could this be a case of a fault with your house's electric instalation? Were they plugged in to the same wall socket when they stopped working?
6. Can someone please tell me more about the differences in sound of the P vs J on the bridge position? Never had the pleasure os trying a double P config bass.
7. Go for a Roqsolid cover, they fit perfectly and really protect the cab. Love my S12T, the rumours are all true
8. I can't see how i can vote on my particular case... I was/am part of a music forum here in Portugal and heard from basschat from a lot of guys over there (friends that i know personnaly and others i've got to know on bass bashes and gigs). I ended joining BC when i found here my current Yamaha TRB5PII for sale at a unbelievable price (in those days the poud/euro rates were good for buying from UK). Never left ever since
9. I always used 60W soldering irons bought from your equivalent of the pound store. In 15 years only had 3 or 4, now i recently bought a soldering station with controlable temperature, very nice. It's just hard to find tips for it, the ones that came with the unit started to melt early... Use the "melted solder on top of it" aproach, it really works!
10. It's finally here! More info soon after this weekend's gig. From the first quick trial at home during lunch it looks very promissing. the pedal nails that green muff sound we're all used to hear in our heads
11.
A question for the sound engineers or maybe experienced stage types. I had the opportunity last weekend to play a great gig at a beer festival. It was nice to have a decent stage and sound engineers, playing in a marquee. I don't get the chance very often, so I am not too clued up on DI etc. The engineer told me to turn down on stage and took an XLR out of the back of my gb Shuttlemax 9.2, i was plugged into my mesa 2x12. There were also 2 guitar amps mic'd up. All was good on stage for sound check volume wise. I wasn't coming through the monitors at all, but this was ok as I had my own amp for monitoring. The guitars and vocals were coming through the monitor mix. Anyway about half way through the gig one of my guitarists decided he wasn't loud enough so he turned his amp up. the mix through the monitors was then really loud, I really struggled to hear myself. I couldn't contact the sound engineer as we were playing 1 long 90 minute set. So my question is, if I had turned my amp master volume up on stage so I could hear myself, would this effect the FOH mix, or is this mix only effected by the gain stage of the amp. Just checked and I was on the post EQ setting. As I said I'm not too sure how the DI set up works. Any ideas? I have another big outdoor gig at a car show coming up and want to understand more about it. Cheers Thebassman
Your gtr is an ass (sorry for the slang). Tell him he can never do that again, once sound check is finished you shouldn't touch the dials on the amp again unless you know exactly what you're doing. This could ruin FOH mix, stage mix and can even cause some bleeding from the backline to the audience wich will affect overall sound. The gtr player should have backed up a bit to hear his guitar better or should have asked for a bit more guitar on the monitor. Raising level on a mic'ed amp results in a raise of volume on the amp, monitor and PA...
The guitarist will have been miced up, so when he's turned up its affected the level hitting the desk. I don't know of any bass amps where the DI level is affected by the master volume as that would render it pretty useless in the situation you describe. Turning up your input gain and pre-volume would affect the DI level but your master should be safe to adjust. Alternatively you could use universal sound engineer sign language - point at your bass, point up in the air, he turns up your level in the monitors. Winner!
Mesa Walkabout has a DI affected by Master volume, i had to mod mine to have it pre-master.
12. I have a different opinion of Chris. I own a California VM-5 and had it up against 2 Sads on our last bass bash. One can see that the Sad is a more expensive instrument but not by so much difference. My bass has a flawless fit and finish, everything came prefectly aligned and setup. I had a problem with the pickups on mine (lack of pole pieces grounding) and Sandberg sent new pickups free of charge very quickly. Electronics are very good, the glock is very musical and versatile and doesn´t have a volume drop between active/passive. On passive mode the high knob works as a passive tone control. My bass is the lightest bass i ever owned, lighter than the Ken Smith but doesn't lacks in tone. I would buy a sandberg over a Sadowsky any time, i can´t justify paying the extra 1K. Sandberg necks tend to be a bit chuncky but i like them that way. Here's a video of mine on the bass bash (after it enters a Fodera, you can hear the difference but is it a 10K difference?): http://youtu.be/cnFyQgxsrFA cheers
13. Bottom price reached, this has to go! Cheers
14.
any difference with the silver cloth? just visual right?
Yep! Will have a better look on my funk/soul band.
15. Just got one of these in a local trade for my Asdown Mi10. Great little combo, good sounding and very versatile with the aux and DI. Have a free bump for a great deal.
16. Isn't as simple as that because theres a wooden frame around the edges of the baffle to support the grill. That frame would be in the way of the cloth grill frame and it can't be removed. Saying that i had fitted a grill cloth on the midget T i had so i know it can be done but it's a lot of work to get it right. I just wanted to know if i could simply resolve this with a cab trade before going for the DIY alternative. Cheers
17. Probably you can get away with a Genz Benz (shuttle/shuttlemax) amp and Barefaced cab(s). Mind that you'll never find a competly flat sounding rig but from my experience this combination will serve you well.
18. Can't add another cab. Either keep the 410 or sell it and buy another thing. To be able to use two cabs with that amp each would have to be minimum 8 Ohm.
19. If the tweeter is indeed blown and you can find a replacement that fits then yes, it's easy to fit a new one. Only a few screws in your way.
20.
As a full-on monitor, I agree. As a "top up" for reference, up close to your face, it's not at all bad especially in small venues. If you sing as well as play bass (as I do) then this is a great small-scale, lightweight solution.
True, with the bass rolled off you can get away with it.
21.
http://www.soundonso...fedale-wpm1.htm
I had the Mackie equivalent to this type of monitor, it's not useable for bass, more for vocals/guitar. The 5" cone can only go so far. IME anything smaller than 10" (talking about a single speaker solution) for bass won't held well against a drum kit, even for personal monitoring.
22.
My thinking would be a P-bass and J sound....which means you can put the pickups in the 'correct' places. A MM is another beast so it would be another bass... Looking at the Sandberg pic...that MM HB seems quite a way back..?? Sims have a multi pickup config which does it all... but it is a big block- which it has to be- so the sound produced is very correct as the magnets are in the exact places for the sounds the pickup is trying to emulate.
Yep, don't look at this bass as a P/MM it's more of a P/J but with more on the P and more on the J . Great vintage vibe, the glock pre is very versatile and controled. I love this bass as much as i love the TRB or the Smith, i put it up there with the others in terms of build quality. These germans are flawless
23.
This is for sale currently: http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1
I beat you to it
