1. ARGH!!! Why does my birthyear bass has to come up in the exact time i've spent all my funds! Are you sure you don't want trades? Perhaps a Eden D112XLTN cab? If you don't sell it until the end of the month i'll take it, you just need to sort out a way to ship it to Portugal (and make me a small discount ) But why am i iluding myself, Truckstop should have it in his hands by now... Cheers
2. @ Riddler. Remember it's £750 plus £40 for each neo driver (it has two) and then another £75 for P&P! Jordi, i've sent you a PM a couple of days ago, hasn't it arived? Please answer me as soon as you can, i'm looking for a cab right now and we could work out a deal Cheers
3.
Nowadays and sometimes perhaps, but go back 20 + years and you'd be so wrong.
Yep, you're right, i have to agree with that
4. Thank you for the kind words Rodri, you're a real gentleman to deal with Another bump for a lovely Bongo 5
5. The W issue is more than a myth: Super expensive basses with horrible necks and all with the same tone (one that tires peoples ears after a while) Strings dead right out of the box Cables and plugs that are weak and break too often Racks that fall appart in a short period Bags that tear off too easily and there's not a single W bag zipper in the world that functions correctly or is still intact Expensive amps/cabs with a muddy sound ... I speak from experience, having owned and tried several W gear. There are only two pieces of gear that i can't flaw, a Streamer Stage II and a Starbass, both belonging to friends of mine, great pieces of kit and an incredible sound. Except for those two i can't justify the price tag in any of the others i know. I believe that if a company want to price themselves in the big boys league they MUST have a QC and a product range that follows. For the same price there's A LOT of great and more consistent quality gear on the market. I'm sorry if i hurt somebody's feelings but i think this is the point of this thread, to figure out wich gear is not worthy of the price tag! Cheers
6. Pretty much every single thing that comes with this logo attached:
7.
Mine is very light too and the electronics are like you described, smooth and subtle but capable of a variety of sounds. I'm finding that on my bass i need to boost both the highs and lows just a little bit to get it to cut better in the mix. There's also another isssue i'm trying to figure out, it seems that my bass could need some shielding, on two consecutive gigs playing practicly on top of a 18" sub i had some noise on my channel, both subs were from diferent brands (belonging to the house's PA) and i used diferent bass heads in each gig (Shuttle 9.0 and Walkabout). also tried it with bass gaoing straight to the amp without fx so i'm positive that the problem lies with the bass. Has anyone had a similar problem? Could it be a battery fault, on my TRB i get a similar sound when the battery is drained but the one on the Sandberg came new and only has 3 weeks of use. Another thing, i've played in the past with the TRB next to said subs and got no noise at all! Cheers
Just to put this straight, my bass didn't needed shielding after all, it's perfectly shielded with both graphite spray and copper foil. The problem with it was simply a fault on the pickups with lack of ground connection to some of the pole pieces. Sandbergs support was excelent helping me identify the problem and sent me new pickups free of charge to put in my bass (i have some soldering skills and was faster this way so they agreed to send me the pickups for me to install without loosing waranty). Now my bass sounds even better and has more output. No more need to boost the EQ to give that extra bite
8. Rodri bought a Yamaha BBNE2 from me, this bass belonged to a friend of mine and i was selling it for him, Rodri decided to trust me and we went ahead with the deal. Excelent comunication all the way through the process, fast payment and everything ended with a very happy BCer with a new bass on his hands. I can surely recommend him, a great guy, honest buyer/seller and a very serious BCer. Thank you Rodri, cheers Marco
9. Did a trade with Harry, my Midget for his WT-550. Everything went smoothly and on schedule. Harry is a great guy to deal with, great comunication, always kept in touch. Wouldn't hesitate to do business with him again. Thank you Harry, cheers Marco
10. I can't believe that nobody has mentioned this yet but here it goes! I always wanted a good 5 string Precision bass but Fender never did nothing good enough for the money they were asking so i bought a Sandberg! Cheaper and way better than any Fender i've come across. And you can have one done exactly the way you want it to be. Playing around the configurator i've knocked something close to the one you posted: Lovely basses, for around £1200 you can have one and save the rest of the money of the Deluxe for a new amp/cab Regarding the Yamahas, they are excelent pieces of gear, there isn't a single model that wont outplay most of the competition being sold on the same price range. I have a TRB5PII and i won't sell it even though the Sanberg gets out more nowadays. It's too good to let go.
11. Bump for a price drop and postage offering during the hollidays
12.
Larry Graham is outside the operational parameters of the model. MK v Flea. Gun to head. If you don't answer hell is an eternity of whichever one you don't want it to be most...
In that case the one i find worse is Tal...
13.
I think it's awesome. Since it's already deviated into maple v rosewood and back again, I think the REAL question is, which is best? 1. Mark King playing fingerstyle on a maple-boarded ash-bodied Ray through a 100 watt all-valve amp into a broken-in BF Super 12, or 2. Flea playing slap on a rosewood-boarded modulus through a 300 watt class D head into a fresh Baer ML-212.
Neither, it'll always be Larry Graham on both accounts! The real question is :" Would he sound the same if dressed in black instead of white?!!"
14. I've been buying my latest cabs online, the courier does an excelent job in breaking them in during transport, no sine wave needed!
15.
Play it as hard as you can right away, if there is a flaw that will result in a failure, you want it to happen right away, within warranty and before you get super dependent on the individuality of that amp. Then you can replace it with same or different depending. If you find yourself eqing in some bass early on, just be aware later you might not need to, so don't necessarily count it as a limitation of the speaker as new.
I would wrap this subject with this, the best answer to this question i've read so far. I've never broken in a speaker with the 25Hz signal, always played it until breaking. Sometimes i took it straight to a gig, other to rehearsals. Honestly never noticed the tone changes but i believe they're there, they probably were disguised by the sound of a drummer playing next to me. I'm just a bass player, not an expert but i'm also an engineer so i understand something about the mechanics of the materials and i believe that the material will in fact losen with time and use alowing for more cone excursion, this means that there will in fact be some increase on air being shifted, therefore also an increase on low end response. Is this audible enough to have the cab broken in before giging? - No, Just play the damn thing! The amp's EQ is there to shape your tone at any moment. Is this of any importance to make a decision about buying/keeping new gear? - In this mather i would play it safe and reserve my final judgement until after 2 or 3 gigs/rehearsals... Cheers
16. A Trace 410 is a very loud cab, IMO don't mess with it and save that money until you get enough to buy the Powerhouse 610. In the meantime listen to Mr Foxen's advise, there's no problem in running the amp with that cab, you just need to EQ it so that you don't damage your cab. Cut the 33Hz slider completely and maybe a bit on the 80Hz too, if you need bottom get it on the 180Hz, it'll give a tighter and controled bottom. Don't go too crazy on the Bass knob also, i had a Walkabout and it pumped serious bottom so i never had to go past 13o'clock on the bass knob and cutted almost everything below 50Hz on the parametric. If you set your EQ right you'll have more than enough power handling on your cab to be loud on every stage you can think of. A word of advice to the population, if you say you can't be loud enough with any Trace cab (one of the oldies) then you must really should think about seing an ear doctor...
17. Well, i'll be able to shead some light on the TF-Eden comparison because i have the TFB550-B and am waiting to recieve a WT-550 in the next couple of days. I only have two gigs done on my TF and both going through a DB112, the tone is tremendous, lots of bottom and good clear highs that aren't harsh but i do miss the mid clarity of my Barefaced so i'll be looking in to getting another cab from Alex capable of delivering the kind of bottom i'm experiencing from the DB but with the definition of the Midget. As for Markbass i think there's no possible comparison, MB amps are fine but like any other light weight amp you can hear the compression working and that takes the b*lls from your sound, the TF is just like JTUK described, if you turn up the volume it keeps all the dynamics with a very clear sound.
18.
It's amps that "put out power" - not cabs. The power that the amp puts out depends on the impedance of the speaker cabinet, and even that is not the same at all frequencies! The "wattage" value on a cabinet is the power load that it is supposed to be able to handle before sustaining damage. It's fairly well known that most cab manufacturers are fairly inaccurate with these ratings. Again though, it will depend on the use of the EQ. If you run a very bass-heavy sound you may damage the speakers in a cab way before reaching it's supposed power rating...
Thanks for clearing it up, i know that the speakers are the ones presenting a resistance (load) to the amp's power flow but i tried to explain things in layman's terms without overcomplicating so that the OP could have a bit more understanding on the subject. cheers
19.
I don't know how cabs are made so this may be a stupid question, but can you swap out the 4 ohm bits for 8 ohm bits? Just thinking about running the 4 ohm (If I get it, have to wait until the new year anyway I think now) until it needs changing and then swapping out the electrics and get an 8 ohm cab. Wild speculation on my part, so if I'm wrong so be it. Why won't a 4 ohm cab be able to handle extra power?
Sorry but not possible, it's the speakers who makes it either a 4 or 8 ohm cab. You would have to change the speakers... believe me its better and cheaper to get another cab. Too much thing involved with cab tuning that i don't even know how to explain. IMO if the drivers have enough power handling then the 4 ohm cab will handle the extra power from the amp (don't know wich cab wer're talking about) but won't be significantly louder. Let's say you have a amp running 500W @ 4Ohms and about 300W @ 8 Ohms. In terms of power handling a 8Ohm cab will only put out 300W and a 4Ohm one will put out 500W (assuming the cabs have more than enough power handling to do so), if both cabs are of the same configuration, 2x12" as an example, you won't hear/percieve the 4Ohm cab to be twice as loud as the 8Ohm, in fact you'll only notice a slight difference in headroom. This is due to the fact that, put siply, if you want to go louder you need more speakers (or more sensitive speakers but that's not the point now, i just don't want to start another argument about cab design). If on the other hand you use two 2x12" cabs, each 8Ohm, and link them to the amp then you'll get the full 500W and it will sound a lot louder (though still not twice as loud).
20.
The Smiths? Come on!!!! Take away the singer/songwriter/frontman aspect of all those you've listed so far and maybe at a push Flea and Bernard Edwards, but don't fool yourselves, the rest as bass players, are very replaceable. JE was replaced in The Who, Larry Graham was replaced in Sly, JJ was replaced by Bob Babbitt and Macca could have been replaced by Klaus. All bass players are replaceable, as are all musicians.
Pretty much agree but i believe that Peter Gabriel would not be/sound/feel the same without Tony Levin! I can't imagine anyone else playing Sledgehammer...
21. Thank god you bit the bullit, i was already trying to find a way to explain to the missus how Ovangkol could turn in to blue during the winter...
22.
Thanks guys, Ghost Bass, the picture is indeed my amp. I will try all the suggestions and see if I still have any issues
Good luck with that. The main idea around Trace gain setting is to get your amp setup to a point that when you play your bass in the harder way you'll ever be playing the red LED never lights, only the yellow.
23. BF Midget T with GB Shuttle 9.0: And with Mesa Walkabout:
24.
He paid £100 (GBP) and I'll buy yours as a back-up for the same price!
So you're the one porking all the TF's... well you ain't gonna get this one any time soon BTW, i'm now using the same setup as you, i'm only a DB short. I wonder if you're also collecting them in your loft...
Could You send me PM - I want to now how much did you pay. I'm wondering of selling TB 550b..
I got mine in a part-ex trade so you'll be better of searching the classified or for sale section and see for how much they are being sold. Also check Talkbass prices but keep in mind that everybody who has a TF in europe had to pay for shipping and taxes so prices will be higher even in the 2nd hand market. Cheers
