I got a message from a friend today with a link for this video. I must admit that i never was much in to Iron Maiden and only have one CD from them on my collection. The thing that caught my eye when waching the clip was their gear, i already knew that Steve Harris played a P but i never would have guessed the guitars being used: [attachment=121201:Sem título.jpg] I can clearly see Leo's work on that stage So the question is, if these guys can pull it off with Strats and a P is there any question left that any peace of gear is capable of playing almost any kind of music? Does a guitar need to be black and have pointy things to be "aproved for metal"? I know this has all been discussed over the forum, i just wanted to leave you with this nice pic. If it takes a man to play a pink bass it takes a big man to play a sunburst Strat on a metal band Cheers

Does anyone know the string spacing on the 5ers? Cheers [/quote] Yeah, i had to especialy order the vintage tinted neck (think Fender Classic 50's P neck, for example). My order was treated as a custom build but because i had almost the entire bass chosen to be stock the build took a lot less time. I know that the switch for the coil tap is only available on the TM and not the VM, i'm guessing that's due to some phasing issue, on the VM you already have 2 humbuckers (P and MM pickups) working side by side so no coil tap would be needed. I really don't know if they'll offer the option of including the switch on the VM's but you only need to send them an e-mail or a facebook message, they're great guys and will get back to you under 24h. I've been doing that odd comment with my GF for some months about buying a new bass and being getting the same kind of reply regarding the numerous basses i own. On the beginning of September i went ahead and ordered this as a birthday present for myself: [attachment=120680:IMG_1126.JPG] I was quoted a 8 week waiting period for the build by Sandberg but their dealer called me this week saying that he already had the bass in the store (3 weeks before schedule) so i'm recieving it early next week and i haven't even thought about the way i'm going to break the news to her without causing the rise of the antichrist and thus the end of all mankind... yep, it's gonna be on 2012 all right!

Anyone tried this? Does it work properly? As a hobbyist DIYer i find it a very interesting idea for making your own PCB's without having to have them made or have to buy all the gear to make them at home in the "traditional" way. Would one of these pens go a long way? I currently own both the Wonderlove and the GR1 and on my first impressions i still prefer the sound of the GR. The Wonderlove seems to have a very high (in a sense of tone) effect, the GR can be phatter and "wetter". I'm really thinking about selling the Wonderlove and getting a GR2. I'll give it another week of trials and then decide.

I would bet on a faulty or tired valve starting to act up... maybe the vibration in the car on the way home set it back to a stable condition... i would go and get my amp checked just in case.

[/quote] Nope! I used to play with 0.040//0.060//0.080//0.100//0.120 and always had the lowest action on earth (i'm a light player), never had any buzz or floppy strings. What you need to do is to adjust you playing technique to the loose strings in order not to get fret buzz and if needed raise the saddles a mm or so or adjust the truss rod (don't think this will be needed). It's not a little raise in the action that gonna make you play worse. You just need to try it! Did it never happened to you setting up you gear in the pub and when you came back from dinner to have the entire bass half step above or down of tune? Did it felt diferent when you picked it up before kicking in the tuner?

It's just half step back, i say keep the same strings. You'll notice the slightest diference on the first couple of times you use the bass after detuning but you'll grow acostumed to it. IMHO i don't think there will be much difference in sound to justify raising the caliber of the strings on such a small detune. It will all come down to your preference, try it and see for yourself if you can live with the diference, don't forget to do a full setup if needed.

I had a MIM Classic 50's - absolutely stunning bass, great playability and very good sound. As for upgrades i think it wont be money thrown away, you can always keep the original parts in case you want to sell the bass in the future. For bridge i would definetly go for a Gotoh 201 (badass not worth the extra money) and for pickup i would either go for a SD quarter pounder or a wizard thumper. Add this to a couple of 250k CTS pots with a 0.100uf orange drop (if you really want a big fat dubby bottom) and you're set with less than £100 of investment.

Bought a pedal from Stipey a few days back. Arived safely and on time. Nice guy to buy from, always in touch trough e-mail, i definetly recomend.

I also had an Ibanez EWB 205, excelent bass, a handy buildt-in tuner, balanced XLR output, great playability and big phat sound. If i ever find myself in need for an accoustic that'll be the one i'll get.

It's normal that a bass doesn't sound like it should when connected to a PC. The hardware and the PC speakers are not suited to take the signal and freqs that a bass throws in! If that was that simple there would be no need for amplifier manufacturers to make specific bass/guitar/keybpard/etc. amps! you should try to get your hands on a bass amp, even a 15W practise amp that you can find cheap, or try to borrow one from a friend. That's the only way to tell if there's anything wrong with your E string. Don't rely on the PC to judge your bass's sound. [b]Maybe this is the root of all your bass problems[/b], i say it again, PC's are sh*t for reproducing bass unless you have a very good professional sound card and great monitors (speakers) and i don't think this is the case because this gear is expensive, a lot more than a bass amp! cheers

Ok, my time to chip in again. Most users won't agree with my way of doing things but is up to you if you follow them or not. First thing, let's straighten your neck properly: FIRST STEP: What we need to do here is first to get your neck as straight as it can be. First you need to be aware of wich side the neck bends acording to wich side you turn the trussrod. After you know that (a few tweaks on the truss could be in order so you can find that out) tune your bass and look at the neck from the bridge side - we want to look at the neck's profile on it's edge. If it's curved in any way start turning the trussrod slowly and for each quarter turn repeat tuning the bass. IMPORTANT - i don't give much importance on letting the neck rest between quarter turns, it would take a severely bent neck to cause any damage to the wood wqhile adjusting trussrod! THIS IS MY PERSONAL OPINION, PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RESPONSABILITY! After you get your neck straight as a ruler and tuned then give the trussrod one quarter turn (or a bit less) in the direction that makes your neck curve to the string side making it looking like a very slight bow. Repeat tuning. SECOND STEP: It's time to check the accion. Set your bridge saddles as low as you can get them without any fret buzz, RETUNE AFTER EVERY MOVEMENT, i believe that by now you already are getting the hang of doing this. For every saddle movement struck the loosse string and then try all frets from top to bottom and keep raising/lowering until you get zero fret buzz in your neck and, again, with your bass perfectly tuned. THIRD STEP: Intonation: What we need to do here is to set the saddles correctly in a way that your loose string hits the same pich that if it is fretted on the 12th and on it's 12th harmonic. Start by comparing loose string with fretted 12th, RETUNE AFTER EACH SADDLE MOVEMENT, after that's as close as you can get it then start comparing 12th fretted with 12th harmonic (exactly on top of the fret). IMPORTANT: you need to use a cromatic tuner to help you trough this step, if you don't own one then find a online one (you need tu connect the bass to the PC), there's some free ones out there. FOURTH STEP: Pickup height, it shouldn't be too far or too close from the strings, you were already given some good reference mesurements, if the bass sounds more strong on the treble side instead of the bass side then you need to reduce distance to strings on the bass side and/or increase distance on the treble on. If the oposite than proceed in the opposite way. If you have some foam at hand it's useful to place some underneath your pickup or use some springs on the screws to held the picup pushed up. If you follow all this steps wou'll end up with a playable bass, not with a pro setup but a playable and gigable bass that'll keep you making music for a lot of time. If you find any of this instructions confusing then my best advice is to serach professional help for your bass. (sorry for the english) Good luck
