1.
NOT - What's the best bass guitar for rock, funk, jazz, pop, disco etc etc. Everyone has their own opinion on that. Instead, it would be helpful (at least for an idiot like me) to get a handle on what are the various specific capabilities that each of the genres really requires from a bass guitar? Apologies if this has been asked before. CB
Rock - Precision, played with pick. Funk - Musicman, slapped like a motherf... Jazz - Jazz fretless, Jaco's sound... Pop - Rickenbacker, sound doesn't mather, only looking good on stage... Disco - Anything weird looking or headless, kubicki, steinberger, ...
2. Don't do anything! If the guitarrist is going to solo just keep the base of the song with your drummer. Blues solos are meant to be melow.
3. Is there anything better than Tobacco Burst / Maple FB combination?!!
4.
Nice cabs I don't suppose you would consider an Epifani UL212 as a part trade? If not then you shall have a pm when my cab sells.
Is it 4 or 8 ohms? I like Epi's sound, if it's a 4Ohm cab it can be a good alternative to the barefaced for the bigger gigs, i don't mind the extra weight on those rare occasions. PM me your offer! Cheers
5. Thanks but i don't need another amp, just a second Barefaced for those rare occasions were i have to play outdoors. Cheers
6. Hi I have both this cabs for sale. They were bought two months ago and had only had one gig and a few rehearsals. Only flaw is on the 110, it came from the store with one of the plastic corners broken but the guy said he'll get me a replacement (still waiting for that...). They sound great and very loud for their size. I'm only selling because i finaly recieved my Midget and it's tone is more suitable for my current band. Here's some pics of them on last weekend's bash: and another one at home: I can (and will) get more pics as soon as the weather clears so i can take them outside and shoot then in the sun. Here's a video of them on their first and only time in a club gig with all the normal material and PA support, at the end of the night the sound man called me to show me my channel on the mixer, it was turned off, lol. They're that loud! Prices, including shipping to EU: 110 - £300 112 - £425 110 + 112 - £675 My contacts: "][email protected] www.facebook.com/marcorreia.bass phone nr: 00351 938503911 Thanks for looking, cheers Marco EDIT: Forgot to mention, i can take trades for a Barefaced Super12T (tweetered) or a Barefaced Midget (non tweetered) plus cash either way.
7.
One of the reasons I ALWAYS suggest getting a multi FX unit to folk whom are new to effects is to get to know what different effects do & to find out what you're likely to use in a band setting. Saves a fortune on "bling bricks". Buying 2nd hand is a good thing to do if you're not 100% if the pedal is gonna get used, that way you can sell it on at minimal/no loss.
+1!!! This is the best advice for anybody looking to start on FX. If you want a pedal but don't have a way to try it or even hear it in action before then is best to keep an eye on the sales forum and be patient, one will always come up for sale. The only pedals i bought new are the ones that in my sig (appart from the pickle pie) and a zoom multifx that i got early on my fx endeavour. All other pedals i bought second hand through forums and fleabay and passed them on at the buy price, no hit taken
8. I have pedals, they sound great in my band's mix, i use them and the rest of the band likes them too! Scr*w that "P-Bass with flats on a SVT+810 tone", my sound, my choice!!! A word of advise: no pedal sounds great right out of the box, it takes a few weeks of tinkering on rehearsals (setting pedals at home for band use is a mistake, it WONT sound the same in the mix) until you find that sweet spot. If you can't find it then that pedal is not for you, next!
9. Great job, looks lovely! Just one thing, on your next build you may want to paint the frame black before stapling the cloth. That way you won't notice the frame behind the grill Keep the good work! cheers
10. A friend of mine had '76 P with dead pickups and asked me for help to replace them. I've sent them over to Andy at WizardUK and explained the kind of sound my friend was after and he rewound them. The result was great, i would look into that before thinking about replacing them.
11. Two reasons for this to happen: 1. Dirt inside the pot - buy a can of contact cleaner from a electronic shop and spray a couple of times inside the pot; 2. Busted pot - find out the pot's demensions and resistance, take it out and solder a replacement; Each of this require you to remove the head from the combo and have a bit of electronics knowledge if you have to replace the pot. If you don't know how to do this i sugest you to find someone who can help you. Both are easy and cheap fixes. Cheers
12. If i was in a rock band at the present moment i would go for either a EBS Reidmar or a Ibanez Promethean and use a pedal for girth (SansAmp VT Bass would be one of the choices). I'm currently using a Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 (just about identical to the Aguilar TH500) because i need a cleaner tone without that big bottom muddying my sound.
13.
What a load of tosh.
I wont start an argument here but you don't listen with my ears just as i don't listen with yours, I've tested Proline vs Neoline and chose Neo because they had more clarity in the sound. That's what works for me and probably will work for anybody searching for a similar type of sound. As to the OP (and if bother to read my posts) after realizing that Jesso was looking for some good ole thump in his sound i had no trouble in admiting that the Proline would probably suit him better! Cheers
14. Here's an example of when i don't like to see blocks: If only something could be done... perhaps trading the necks and possibly repacing the pickguard off the bass to the right by a pearloid one... oh wait... what?!!
15. Honestly don't know. You should try them in every configuration possible and decide for yourself. That's where all the fun is!
16.
Do you need a reason? :-) I'm puzzling over getting a second one at the moment :-)
A second one?!! Is it to be used as a backup or are you trying to make yourself heard over here in Portugal?!!
17. I see what you're looking for. IMO i think you'll never find that trouser flapping with a small, Neo driver loaded cab. Either you get a cab with more drivers or get something with ferrite magnets. That Proline 410 actually is starting to look like a good bet for what you're after. You can also try to find a couple more neo 112's or a neo 212@4ohms and drive all of them form the Crown! That would be an epic rig!!!
18.
I don't think it's a good/bad discussion.. Only a "why might it be that way" discussion :-)
Yes, i see your point and i also had the doubt about having the "tweeter mounting bar covering almost 1/3 of the driver" question but Alex explained it so i'm over it. I only care about the sound it puts out and that is sweeeeeet! only question on my mind now is "How can i find a good reason to justify ordering a Super12T?"
19.
Good reasoning. I have a pair of neo 112 EBS cabs, but I find that they aren't up to the job in bigger rooms. Great little cabs but too small to expect miracles from. Is the neo line 212 a bigger box than the combined 112 Neos? Good point on the Reidmar too. Thanks.
I honestly can't tell if the 212 is bigger sounding but judging by the diagonal placement of the drivers i would bet it will be a bit shorter than 2x112. I have Neo 112 and 110 and using both, live, i have enough sound available but what works for me probably won't work for you. What amp are you using with the 112's?
20. You don't want or need that. The Proline series muddy your sound too much, what you really need is a Neoline 212. Lighter and a cleaner soud. Also, a Reidmar will give you the same tone with lots of volume on tap and just a fraction of the weight!
21. Used it yesterday at rehearsal and simply put, i don't care about all this tweeter discussion, that thing sounds huge and very defined. Enough low end for my needs and it sat perfectly in the mix, giving my bass the extra edge to cut through and that's exactly what i need in this project (funk/soul covers). Loved it!
22.
I'm guessing it's all been thought through. Just curious.
Yep, me too.
23.
My RS210s have coaxial tweeters, but they are actually 'built' into the speaker. What effect do the bits of wood have in front of the speaker?
Don't know about that, i've questioned myself some times over that same question seeing that the wood piece covers about 1/3 of the cone area. I haven't noticed anything different soundwise but maybe Alex could drop by and give us some insight on this mather.
24. It's been the same design for the tweeter mounting on the T versions since i can remember!
