Remove its four screws and slide the head out of the rack. A sticker with the exact manufacture date and signature of the QC worker should be on the main circuit board. Cheers

First impressions after one rehearsall without time to setting up properlly, it's in fact louder than the 9.0 but i still couldn't get the EQ just right, it has more lows than the GB and some of them were mudding the sound, there was also something going on the mid region that i couldn't get along with, i cutted a bit on the [s]250k[/s] 250hz and it got better. Conclusion, i still need to mess with the EQ for a little while longer, from the first impression i can say that is louder but not as transparent as the GB. My bandmates commented that they prefer the GB due to it's definition. I'll post more once i find a suitable EQ. edit: i was off by 24750hz... LOL
You can't really comment on the colouration of a head unless you tried the two heads through the same cabs. The cabs colour the tone more than you would think. I'm guessing that you use your GB with the EBS Neos (going by your sig) and at a guess you tried the Reidmar through some classic cabs. Those two sets of cabs, sound wildly different. Anyway, let us know how you get on when you can A/B the heads side by side at home through the same cabs.
Nope! I tried the Reidmar with the Neo 110 (the one i came out of the store with ) and even took my GB with me for comparison, the Reidmar was lower and louder. There's a bit of colouring going on there, that i can assure you but not much, i believe that a mild touch on the EQ will bring that mid scoop back to life again! edit: But i'll give them a better test once i have them both and post my feelings.

Good man! You got yourself a nice bass. I got along with the neck very well from thr first day but i've been playing 5 stringers for almost ten years now so there's no such thing as a thick 4 string neck for me

I still prefer the clearer tone of my 9.0 over the tiny colour of the Reidmar (from the short run i made with one in the music shop) but it does have more headroom. I play my 9.0 with preamp gain at 12h, volume at 15h and the master volume around 12h. Everything else is set flat and no filters. I'm also a light player and don't like too much rumble on stage. I'll get the Reidmar to experiment and see if it's build quality maches the GB's and if i can get as much transparent sound as i get from the 9.0 but with more headroom and a little bit more low-end (not much, i prefer low-mid and leave all the sub-bass to the kick drum). I'll post my findings in a few days, i expect to go pick up the amp this saturday. I still think the GB is a fantastic head and is the lightest head with the better tone on the market, they exagerated on the power rating though, i would say that with a 4ohm load it can deliver something like 300 to 400 of the old watts (i'm talking about Trace Elliot watts! )
Yep..not sure I can use a 250w amp, tbh. I think I should be able to but doubt I could. And I have very good single 12's anyway so maybe I just want a small amp like a TH500
Sorry to be the one telling you this but i have the Shuttle 9.0 (same B&O power stage than the TH500) and the Reidmar is louder wilst retaining definition. If i push the 9.0 too much things start to compress and dissapear...

I have one, sounds lovely and plays very well. Yes, i also agree it sounds better than a Standart MIM and even a few USAs. Love the pickguard though...

What is the quietest micro head? Fan noise specifically.
Ghost_Bass replied to Owen's topic in Amps and Cabs
Genz Benz Shuttles 6 and 9 very quiet, you can't hear a fan inside or any other kind of noise on your sound. -
You can't do that! Now we all want to know?
Well, i jumped a few lines whilst reading your topic and just read
I'm putting £100 in a bass fund for the next 5-6 months
and a few posts downs i read
Not having 24 frets isn't a biggie, but is there a fretless 5 string Fender P? & if there is, is it in my budget?
So i remembered seeing a 5 string Precision for sale a while back, this one: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/162086-fender-squier-5-string-precision-bass/page__p__1576892__hl__precision%20squier%205__fromsearch__1#entry1576892 When i saw this add i noticed that it was a P but with jazz pickups, then i re-read your first post and read
So, what I'm looking for is a 5 stringer (or maybe a sixer) & I think I want to go fretless
so i knew that this bass was not a valid sugestion and removed it. I'm obviously not a monday morning person...

just re-read your first post, and deleted my sugestion.
I would argue with this. With no signs of wear or tear visible I would say you've been had
If you look closer you can see some scratches but minor (Cliff was known to take good care of his gear) and if you look at the picture from behind of your screen you can see his finger print on the other side of the plectrum!

NPD! Snatched this of evilbay dirty cheap for US$1000! The seller swears that it was used by Cliff Burton, in a couple of years il'll worth twice as much!

Well, i'm picking mine up next weekend or the other one after. I've tried it and i can confirm everything people have been saying about it, stupidly loud and very good sound. I can notice a bit of colouring on the sound even if set flat but nothing major. Only flaw i've seen on it its the lack of a mute switch. I would also like to know if the compressor is placed before the DI so if you were usind the DI in Pre-EQ it still would be affected by the compressor. That would be a big plus because i could remove my Multicomp from the board. I'm still to decide wich cab to use with it, i was looking for a single 12" solution, right now i'm divided between the EBS Neo 112 and the Barefaced Midget T, i already have a Neo 110 so i think i'll start looking for a Midget and compare both... If anyone wants to trade his midgetT let me know, i have a shuttle 9.0 that o could trade if the Reidmar takes its place Cheers

Helping a friend connecting pres to an amp
Ghost_Bass replied to Ghost_Bass's topic in Amps and Cabs
It doesn't matter if he's actually using both the basses simultaneously or not, if both pre-amps are switched on then they'll both be supplying a voltage to the input of the amp, even though there may not be a signal present. If the power amp is a stereo one then he could perhaps feed one pre-amp into the LH channel and the other into the RH channel but that's just starting to get messy and complicated (and 'simple' always works best IME). Seriously, the AB pedal is the safest way forward and, as they're generally a passive device, it doesn't have to cost a fortune - you can get a perfectly adequate Behringer one for about £20 and a Boss one for around £30.
I understand what you're saying and it makes sense. My first answer to him was in fact to get a boss AB-2 pedal to do this but i wanted some confirmation about this subject. Thank you for your replies. Cheers -
Helping a friend connecting pres to an amp
Ghost_Bass replied to Ghost_Bass's topic in Amps and Cabs
Thanks for the replies, you're confirming my fears. The voltage explanation makes some sense even though he wont be using both basses at the same time. Keep posting other alternatives to the pedal. Cheers -
Hello, a friend of mine phoned me today with a question that i'm not sure about the correct answer. He's got some gigs comming up where he'll be using both electric and double bass. He wants to use two preamps, one for the electric and another for the upright but he wants to use only one power amp and a single cab. Here's the problem, the power amp only has one input so he asked me if it was safe to link the two outs from the pres to the amps input using a Y adaptor. I know that you can't connect the out of two amps together (like hooking two amps to a cab) but i honestly don't know if there's any kind of crosstalk between the signal from the pres. If he can't use the Y what would be the cheapest/easyest way to solve this (if told him about using an A-B pedal but he would need to buy one)? Can someone shed some light on this? Thanks!

My first guess is that you need a string tee or see if your strings are strung in a downwards way so they get good pressure against the nut (i normally alow my strings to wrap 2 or 3 turns arround the tuner thus getting lower and pressing more against the nut and at the same time with more turns i notice i have better tunning stability). Try playing open notes and pressing the string between the nut and the tuner to see if it solves your problem. Cheers
So i'm thinking it's between the discumbobulator and the 3Leaf proton (currently ahead because of size); both seem to have that wet sound I am looking for. Anyone know of something similar with a dry mix or will it have to go in a blender?
Small, close sound to the Proton and with dry mix: MXR M82 Bass Envelope Filter! At one time i had with me the MXR, a Proton and a GR1 and did an ABC. The GR is the phatest but both the MXR and Proton were wetter. I ended up with the GR probable because it was my first filter and i've grown accustomed to it's sound and all my filter lines in my band were written with it so it just sounded right to my ears. The Proton has gone for LeftyBiskit here but i still have the MXR that i can sell you, if you're interested send me a PM. Cheers

Powered speakers usualy have a XLR/Jack combo input like this: You can plug a XLR or a jack to the socket. EDIT: try to find pics of the control panel of whatever cab you're thinking on buying to see if it has this option on the line out socket.

Help changing Fender Jazzmaster gain & volume pots please!
Ghost_Bass replied to Ghost_Bass's topic in Repairs and Technical
Just to give some closure to this, last weekend i sat dow with my guitard at the rehearsal to try to solve things without messing with the amp. I started explaining him all the options you've sugested me and when i told him about putting a resistor in "Input 2" he said "I don't use that channel, it's atenuated" !!!????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.... F*ck!!! Apparently input 1 is louder than 2 (like having passive/active inputs on your bass amp) so i convinced him that he would not ruin the amp and we plugged to input 2. Problem solved!!! F*ck*ng guitards......... -
Here's a pic of the original bass: and here's how it got to me: I'll post a pic of my wiring and the final assembly when i'm done. Keep posting ideas and alternatives, nothing is final until i sell the bass Cheers
-
LOL! Sounds like i should have sold you the bass the way it got to me! The dual J is now an american deluxe humbucker wired in series (if i'm not mistaken). I won't put series/paralel option on the bass to keep it on the cheap side and prevent drilling the scratchplate. Just took delivery of two dual concentric pots with knobs from axes'r'us because they were at a very good price. Also ordered some orange drops to keep at hand. I'll use this diagram: http://support.fender.com/service_diagrams/bass_guitars/019-0209C_SISD.pdf The pots are 500K/500K and i supose they are audio taper due to the lack of such information and i'll be using ,047 and ,022 drops. Hopefully it'll all work fine and i'll end up with a good bass ready to hit the market!
Excellent find :-)
Actually was sheer luck! I was serching this store looking for some parts for a wiring job i'm doing (see my thread: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/170087-need-ideas-for-wiring-a-p-bass/) and came across this pot. Coincidently when coming back to BC i came across Daz's topic!
