Why?

Don't worry Shep, there are people spending more money than you: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=307631645947200&set=a.153482268028806.26828.141818032528563&type=1&theater The guy who commented on your pic must me a failed guitarist who never could get the hang to control a simple crybaby...
2.
Of the ones you mentioned, only the Big Muff and and the Pickle Pie are fuzz.
Not really, if setup properly the OD pedals i've mentioned were able to enter the fuzz realm!
3. I did a bit of nipping on the corners so that they wouldn't overlap and prevent the whole frame to sit close to the baffle but i didn't go as far as the actual corner to prevent the cloth from falling appart. A couple of staples on top left it nice and leveled with the rest of the sides. I haven't got enough english vocabulary to explain this better...
4. I stapled the cloth to a wooden frame (with bracing on the corners) and fitted in the cab, i didn't even had to use velcro because it was a very tight fit. I i remember i'll take one of and take a shot of the back so you can see how i did it. Cheers

Why?

Why do we use fx? Because we want to and like them! Any kind of fx used on the right spot will bring more life to the music being played and help fill some dull parts! I have met people who said that i didn't needed fx before they listened to them and changed their mind after that. It's just a mather of knowing how and were to use them. The bass doesn't needs to lose it's supporting roll by using fx meither it needs to get into guitar territory with them, that's why manufacturers are building fx especificly for bass. Go listem to jamiroquai, muse, red hot, etc. you have some pretty good bass lines going there whilst using fx! None of the bass players i've mentioned use them to get some king of a lead roll, they keep their bass lines where they should belong with an ocasional solo supported by the rest of the band! Horses for courses!
6.
Looks cool! Like a Barefaced I don't think it'll make much difference to the sound as it only has one speaker. If it had two, then vertical alignment would increase clarity because of phasing issues, with one like this it'll just move the cone an inch or two closer to your ears, It'll look great though
Anybody said Barefaced and vertical alignment? I'll take cover before Alex pops up and sues me... edit: spelling!
7. I don't think it would really make much of a difference but that's my opinion because i don't realy get on with the aguilar pre... too many mids... here's my settings for a defined but thick slapping sound: Volume: full Balance: about 6/10 turned to the neck pickup... if it isn't clear: neck - - - - I - - - - - bridge Low: 6/10 Mid: 4/10 High: 5/10 (flat) Piezo: 1 to 2ish/10 - depends on the condition of the strings, i use d'addario prosteels so mine are very bright, you'll probably have to roll back the balance more to the bridge side if needed! Try this with flat EQ on your amp and mess a bit with these settings to see if you can find a usefull sound for you. Avoid going for extreme settings on the EQ, on the Yamaha's pres the slightest move makes a big change! Cheers
8.
That's not right - there's plenty of fuzzes out there these days with a clean blend, Iron Either, SM/BS, Wounded Paw, Prescription Electronics and Mallekko all do blended fuzz, and thats just off the top of my head. It's all a matter of opinion but blend makes fuzz well useful for bass players. Fuzz by nature can get lost in a live mix and blending clean signal into it can help maintain your presence - whilst still giving you a killer tone.
By my hands passed Boss OBD-3, Markbass Distorsore, Fultone Bass Drive Mosfet, EHX Bass Big Muff and now i'm settling with a Wren&Cuff Pickle Pie B, all with blend controls. From my list the most useless must be the Boss and the best is the Pickle Pie, it really blends the fuzz with the clean without sounding that the clean just sits on top of the fuzz. As to the MXR i realy enjoyed the sound of it, i'll give it a good listen in my house this evening and play a bit with the PPB to see wich tone i like best, who know's i end up swapping!
9. I'm still very attached to my Multicomp but i get the feeling that i'm loosing something not going for a more complete compressor... I like my compressor to act only on the high peaks of my signal degrading them (no i don't want a limiter), i want to leave all my soft playing untouched without boosts so i can have some dinamics on my playing. The MC has been working great for my needs but my GAS is always making me wonder if something like this MXR would be better... any opinions?
10. Do it! That looks great, it's a very easy job to do! (BTW, i was the Rumbles guy )
11. Can't you EQ that thump on the bass? Maybe work more with the neck pu? The cristal bright tone is the main characteristic of the TRB's they're not meant for that tradicional thump sound, they were designed to be hi-fi. Perhaps it would be better if you consider a change of bass rather than go spending a good amount of money on new electronics just to find that the bass's wood and construction still gives you a bright tone! There's a lot of difference from a Spector to a TRB, if you like the Spector's sound maybe you would be more comfortable with another Spector or a Warwick.
12. I have a 5PII and the pre is the last thing i would touch! I find mine so well balanced and defined that i keep my EQ flat (and the amps and mixing desk's EQ also go flat). All my tone changing is made with the balance knob and with my right hand. Cheers
13. I see i'm a lot younger (30yo) than most of the users around here but here's my story: 1999 - Trace Elliot Boxer 15W (i still have it, great amp!) 2002 - Behringer Ultrabass BX1200 2007 - Trace Elliot 1215 GP12-X 2008 - Trace Elliot 7210H GP7 SM (bought it to use the 1215 head in it and place on top of the 15" combo, i think i've never used the head live...) 2010 - Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 + Genz Benz Shuttle 12T 2011: Bought a Promethean P110C cabinet to use with the Genz rig, a few months later i sold the GB cab and bought the Promethean P5110 combo. Later on i ended up selling both the Promethean combo and cab and bought two Fender rumble 112 cabs to use with my Shuttle 9.0. So 2011 will something like this: - Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 + Genz Benz Shuttle 12T - Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 + Genz Benz Shuttle 12T + Promethean P110C - Promethean P5110 + Promethean P110C - Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 + (x2) Fender Rumble 112 For 2012 i hope to get hold of a Barefaced Super12T and probable keep one of the fender cabs with me for those small gigs. P.S. - In case you didn't noticed by my listing i joined my first bass forum in 2007! I rest my case...
14. Does this price revision means that 2nd hand W prices will start to climb? Should i hang on to my Thumb for little longer???
15. I played a Star a few days ago, it was the first bit of Warwick kit that i enjoyed playing and thought it was beautifull! I have a Thumb that i simply hate and can't identify with just so you see the variety of tastes going on this forum!
16.
I bought a Trace combo last night off Fleabay, here she is, decribed as a :- Trace Elliot GP7-SM 300 watt 2x10" Bass Combo serial number is T0451/00424...does make it a GP7 SM 300 7210H? (...)
Indeed it is! I had one, a bit lacking on the low side but great tone and very loud! (also very heavy!...)
17. I had rattles also, in one cab was the grill ( a simple fix with a screwdriver) and on the later it has the back pannel, i took out the speaker and when i has going to tighten the screw i remembered to put some isolating foam between it and the cab, i've done it in both cabs just to be safe, 15min of work for a couple of months without any noise. It's a shame that Fender lets their cabs leaving the factory with problems like these but these are the kind of problems i can live with without any concern.

19. I'm a smoker (on the process of starting to quit) and in my country the smoking ban only appeared two years ago (i think it was two...). Before the ban the pubs were stacked with people (and a big cloud of somoke) but after the ban they took a heavy hit, realy! Less than half the normal customers. In our case the ban wasn't strickt, some venues could still get a license for smoking if they had a good and effective ventilation sistem, what happened was that after the ban the pubs who forbid smoking started to see less customers and the ones that invested in ventilation started to pack. It also reflected in venues with live music, lots of pubs started to do less shows because they couldn't make enough money to pay for the band. I agree with the ban but in restaurants, public equipments, markets, etc... in pubs and discos where you must be over a certain age to enter i think the choice should be up to the landlord, as long as he guarantees a proper ventilation of the space. People that go to a pub go to have a good time, to drink a coffee or a beer and to smoke a cigarrete. People who don't want to be in a smokey room can choose to go to a non-smoker pub! Back on topic, i smoke and play in pubs with smoke, everytime i change strings on my bass (every two months) i give a good clean - i also clean my amp and cables at least twice a year - , i never had anybody complainting of any smell comming from my gear! It's simple, don't be a pig! Keep your gear well taken care of and it will never turn yellow or reak from dirt or smoke and it will last for years to come! Sorry if i came up too strong, i just don't understand why do people let their gear reach the conditions i've seen... Cheers edit: some mistakes, i know there are a lot still remaining...
20.

Ohh!!! This is going to be my next rig, it looks awesome! Too bad i can't hear it, if it's possible could you do a small review of that rig,... please!!! Happy birthday!
21. Oh, btw, taking on Pauls question, if the cab has weels you should realy be wondering if the corsa fits inside the cab intead!
22. It's safer to get the cab dimensions from the maker's site and build a cardboard full scale replica to see if you can fit it in your car so you don't get an unespected surprise when picking it up.
