2. Where abouts in Liverpool are you? I'm geniunely interested but it will be pending on the sale of other stuff and actually having a look at it first
 3.
hold strong on this one mate, don't you dare lower that price
Oh, I'm not planning on! All PM's replied to, (I think, I've had quite a few since the last bump!) Am also interested in through neck Warwicks
 4.
the meter on my ashdown is actually on the output. and lot more useful, i find.
Yup same with the one I used to own, but that was a guitar amp though.
 5. And replied!
 6.
WTF......
That was his 'excuse' for making off with about £20K+ of peoples money, including mine.
Thats the one where a few years back I brought a Behringer head as a backup...plugged it in there and it worked fine, took it home and plugged it in and nuthin...dead as a dodo. When I read the t&cs on the back of the reciept there was the immortal paragraph which went something like "Dawsons accepts no responsibility for advice given by any member of staff regarding whether a product is suitable for use." A.K.A. don't rely on a member of staff to give you good advice. I sent it into Trading Standards, as I was a bit pissed by this point! I got my money back and I think that caveat got taken off the reciepts. Last time I went in there tho, it'd definately changed it's act and as NancyJohnson said, it's very laid back re. trying out gear!
My local one definatly isn't laid back and there isn't any excuse for it. I asked to play a Deluxe P bass in there once and the answer was 'Will be you be buying it?'
bought the 2005 Ltd 'ray off them on the day they opened, I was apparently the first person to buy anything 'good' off them! I was tempted to blow my credit rating on that black Lakland DJ they had in a while ago too. And yeah, good to see there's not just me here representing our cultural capital! Would I know you from any bands round here?
I gave that lakland serious consideration too! Oddly enough there's a blue one in Dawsons at the moment but it's practically hanging off the ceiling and I seriously doubt the staff would want to climb up and get it down for you. I used to be in a band a good 18 months ago but I'm not anymore. How 'bout you?
 8.
If you're out there Steve get in touch, I'm sure you could come to some arrangement to pay your debts off and carry on building neat cabs, am I wrong? From what I have seen and heard about these cabs they seem to do the biz.
Last I head he was dying of cancer or something, lets hope that's true.
 9. Why do people keep doing this to me when I don't have any money?
 10.
On the subject of Crack Convertors knowing the price of things...I pop into my local one 2 or 3 times a week, often on a Monday for obvious reasons. However, today noticed a pair of marked s/h Mackie C300 z PA speakers and enquired as to the price as they were unticketed. "£399 mate" was the answer, "Does that include the stands?", "No", was the reply. Just had a look on ebay, a pair of new ones, BIN £319!!!! Someone is having a laugh....
This is why I can never believe stories like this, everytime I go into crack converters they have nothing but stupidly overpriced, often unbranded tat. Unless the original owner had some sort of mental disease that made him go and sell his bass to them, it's been stolen.
I went in there to try some of the new Trace combos, after the assistant had given me all the BS I plugged in and nothing, on both of them, they were both knackered! He then said that he could get one in for me within a week but only if I was interested in buying one. Not one single lefty bass. Out of about 200 guitars on the walls, I counted about 15 that were american or original country of origin. I think Liverpool for its size has the worst music shops in the country.
We could do with a nice big PMT really. Things have gotten better since Dolphin music came though, they actually have some boutique stuff in there. Was quite amusing to go there on opening day and see that most of the staff in had jumped ship from Dawsons over the road! I had a similar experience when trying to buy an Ashdown practice combo. Went to the one in Chester, asked to buy it and they plugged it in to check that it was working and guess what? It wasn't! I then asked them if they could ring the Liverpool store and see if they had one there. Turns out they did and I was assured that it was working. Drove from Chester to Liverpool to pick it up and guess what? The combo wasn't working there either! You know, I've suddenly just remembered the real reason why I stopped shopping there!
I can only sympathise. Saying that, I've been in there when they do let kids loose on the drum kits, it's hell on earth!!! Dolphin have nicer basses in anyway, it's the only place worth going if you're having a GAS attack!
Dolphin had a great stock when they first opened but has now gone dramatically downhill bass-wise. They've gone from proper Warwicks (including a nice thumb dirty blonde), Laklands, the whole Musicman range to Warwick rockbasses, a few fenders, some low-midrange ibanezes and the odd musicman. They still have the best stock out of any of the shops though Nice to see someone else in Liverpool, by the way!
 13. So I went into town yesterday to check out some new gear. I'm in Liverpool and there are 3 music shops right next together, I went into the two I normally shop in and decided that since I havn't been in Dawsons for so long I might as well have a look, see if anything's different. I go in, go to the guitars section upstairs and am greeted by signs pretty much on every other guitar and piece of gear (and they have a lot of gear!) along the lines of 'DO NOT TOUCH! A MEMBER OF STAFF MUST BE PRESENT BEFORE YOU TOUCH ANYTHING! YOU MUST BE OVER 21 TO TOUCH THE DRUMKITS' And then I suddenly realised why it's been so long since I've set foot in Dawsons..... Oh and £800 for a Marcus Miller jazz
 14. If this story is true, it's blatantly a stolen bass. No matter how destitute you are, there's no way you'd sell your $4000 bass to crack converters for a tenner. He should try and find the owner, I know if I was the owner I'd buy the bass back off him for a damn sight more than £80!
 15.
Has anyone actually seen one of these up for sale? The only one i can find is at the gallery for £600, which is an awfull lot for a 1x12 cab imo Ah dagnamit wrong area, can someone move it to the items wanted section please?
I've seen the complete combos second hand for less than that...
 16.
email is - [email protected] (I don't think the [email protected] one works... yet...) probably to best to phone to discuss details of a bass build though! As for seeing one (or quite a few!), pop yourself along to www.bassday.co.uk, stands 2g and 2h. Hey, it's closer than Brighton!
I was using the info@ email, that being the one on the website! Didn't know about bassday, I shall be definatly going to that as I'm not far from Manchester. Thanks for the heads up on that, very useful advice
 17. Tried emailing GB today for a quote but my email immediatley bounced
 18. I have a 20th anniv. corvette jazzman, I think the controls are the same. -The volume knob is stacked with the volume on the top and pickup balance on the bottom. Pulling the top knob puts the bass in passive mode - The next knobs are your usual active treble/mid - The other stacked knob is active bass control on the bottom and on top is a tone knob for when its in passive mode - The switch switches the humbucker between serial/parallel/single coil (can't remember which order) Hope that helps you, you can certiainly dial in a lot of different sounds with that setup!
 19.
As each bass is bespoke the only way to get a price is to speak to Bernie. Solid colours are cheaper than fancy woods. Mine were £1800 and £1500 but that was a few years ago.
As far as what I'd like goes, that Daphne Blue one a page back pretty much fits the bill perfectly! Perhaps with a matching headstock and maple board. I think the best thing for me to do would be to get a second hand one and see what they're like first. If I like it, I can always sell it on and place a custom order So if there's anyone in Liverpool or Staffordshire (I visit there a fair bit) who has one for sale let me know
 20. There are some seriously nice basses in this thread, it's actually making me consider selling both of my basses and having one of these made. Only problem is, I can't find any pricing information anywhere! Help?
 21.
Think, Jazz bass on Steroids! huge eq +- 24db slim neck, great ergonomic. And just plain class. I dont think you will see one of the current Rumour equed ones for £800 any time soon, so I would guess for a current crop one £1500+. if u can find one that is.
Cheers, lets move this discussion into the GB thread. And jazz bass on steroids is exactly what I'm after!
 22. Am giving serious thought to getting this GB here (depending on price and money), opinions anyone? I really like the sound of GB's from what i've heard and i'm looking to get a bass which sounds like the Bacchus that I used to own (which had bartolini soap bars). Looks like that has bart pickups but can't tell 100%. If anyone has some spitfire soundclips that would be great. Even better would be somone near liverpool who has one and wouldn't mind me having a play The GB website doesn't appear to be working at the moment either.
 23.
Hi All , UFO first - Steve: Sky One was definitely the best - not so sure about the string vests they used to wear onboard the sub though. I know what you all mean about selling this bass - it's by far and away the best looking in my collection but I've got an Overwater Progress which I prefer tonally, which I bought on a buy now pay in a year deal so needed to find the money to fund this.(Wife has since paid for it !)so not now so desperate for the cash - it finishes on Ebay tonight and if it doesn't go I definitely won't list it again (which may be for the best !) . I have listed it on Ebay a few times only to withdraw it with minutes to go as I could not bare the thought of parting with it.
Believe me, if I had the money I'd take this!* The fact that we're both in liverpool makes all that more tempting *unless anyone wants to buy a stingray five and a 20th anniversary warwick corvette
 24. NOOO, I've missed the chance to get one of my cabs back
