I have said it before and I 'll say it again - who f***ing cares? Why are you guys so obsessed with the bass when the funk is in the fingers?
'BASS GUITAR FORUM IN TALKING ABOUT BASS GUITARS SHOCKER'
I have a video of the recording of the album and I am 99% certain he is playing an SR5 in that song but I will watch later and confirm! Cheers ped
That too would also make sense
hmm in the video he sure dont use a wal, and i dunno just doesnt sound like one to me, im gunna have to try n look it up...
I'm just speculating really, if most of the album was recorded with the Wal, that's where I'd put my money. Also bear in mind that the bass used in the video has absolutely no bearing on what was used during the recording. Also remember that the video was done well after the the album came out and after John Frusciante left the band.
some info I found...
Yeah that looks spot on that. I've had so many arguments with people on the RHCP forums about Fleas gear, stuff like people saying that he DEFINATLY used a stingray to record BSSM, when all you have to do is a little reading to find out the truth (like interviews which state otherwise!) Need to do a bit of reading about that Jazz though, I'm 99% sure one of his jazzes got stolen partway though the Californication tour. Would explain why it suddenly stopped appearing at concerts, unless it got found? EDIT: Had a look around, not found 'proof' as such but did find someone on talk bass making reference to the stolen jazz
no mention of the bass he used to record soul to squeeze there... any ideas?? it wasnt the wal i dont think
Well Soul To Squeeze was part of the BSSM sessions so he probably used the Wal. Might not sound like it but you have to bear in mind that the playing style is far more mellow than the other songs on that album.

One hot minute was recorded with an Alembic Epic, apart from Aeroplane in which he used a Stingray (read this in an interview) Someone mentioned the Jazz he used on the Californication tour/video, this was actually stolen whilst during the tour. From the top of my head the one that he's been using recently was a gift from a record exec (I think) Still waiting for the story though!
I think flea made every bass he used sound great on the records, with the exception of the Jazz which didn't suit many of the songs on the latest album if you ask moi. I think his best sound is between BSSM and some of the tracks from the album before last using the Modulus. I think the best live sound without a doubt is the Modulus. Nothing cuts with such clarity and tone than graphite imho! ped
Totally agree. I've seen them live twice and when he uses the modulus it's like you're listening to the bass through headphones! Never heard anything cut through so well.

Flea always sounded best with a musicman, and worst with a fender if you ask me. I'm sure Ian at SMART will give us an explanation soon.

Courier points system and courier issues

Here's another minus for Interparcel, although to be fair it should really be a minus for UPS as Interparcel just outsource the carriage to another company, in this case UPS. My shipping quote from interparcel stated 'delivery time within 2-3 days', it actually took five days which lead to some un-needed concern about whether it had been lost or not. I was also horrified to find that despite packing the amp (and Eden Nemesis NA212) better than how it arrived when I first bought it, upon arrival they had somehow managed to break one of the deep recessed handles on the top. I have no idea how they managed that, the top really must have taken a hell of a knock to do that.....tossers.
nterparcel a big -1. Nearly destroyed a Bass amp head. Bent one of the dual steel rack ears completely back on itself and knocked out a couple of mosfets. repair cost was a 1/3rd of what i paid for the amp.
Which company actually delivered the amp? As far as I know, interparcel don't actually do any of the delivering. -
those days will come back, its only a matter of time a bass like this is worth a grand, not a measly £850! the sparkle stingrays, particularly the 5's, demand the extra cash and people will pay for it, an ernie ball official said to me that sparkle finishes such as mine (blue dawn) and yours are very sought after, and i was advised not to consider selling in the current climate (which i wouldnt anyway ) yours is rarer than mine too! dont be tempted to drop the price unless you cant eat
Thankyou I remember being on the Ernie Ball forums a while back and people would fight to get one of these basses! Same with sparkle ones too. Have had a bit of interest over there but trades only, I've been told that people are more interested in the new Sterling 5's at the moment. I won't be putting the price down as this is how much I think the bass is worth and also, I'm in no rush to sell at all!
This is indeed a great bass, I traded it with Waldo because I don't get on with Stingrays! Come on guys, someone must have a burning desire for a rare sparkly stringray?
Nice one matey, do you still have the Bacchus?
