Spector

top end basses.. And like most basses in this class, subject to a wide range of opinion.. Friend of mine has 2 Euro 5LX's, nice basses, but I would not stop playing my Dingwalls.. He likes my Dingwalls, but prefers his Spectors...
2. As a fellow J-retro user .... 1. You don't have to use all the knobs travel. :-) I set mine to be as close to the passive tone as possible and then move incrementally from there... 2. It's never going to sound like a stingray.. 3. Might be worth playing the trim settings on the preamp itself... But I agree that you need to be careful with it...
3. move on, life's too short etc etc... sounds like the singer is only on the first rung of the ladder to prickdom..
4.
I occasionally find myself looking at old Rick 4001 basses & thinking I'd really like another one because they look so great, but then I remember that the two I owned were garbage, and every one I've ever played has been terrible too & the desire to own one soon passes again.
this. in spades :-)
5. Anyone in the band has a veto, no questions asked... Suggestions seem to come pretty much equally all of the band members... So no problems there... I've had problems in the past though and tend not to want want previous mistakes, all of which have been covered above by other folk..
6.
There's only one answer to this. I'm as loud as the rest of the band. In practice that means being as loud as the drums.
this...
7.
Out of interest, I wonder how many of you above are members of original bands? The reason I ask is that (IME) the role of each member is much more clear-cut and constant in a covers band. With an original band, things tend to evolve and therefore roles have to also evolve, or new people have to be brought in to carry out those newly evolved roles... Some members might grow increasingly uncomfortable with their new (or changed) role. That was certainly my experience in my last band. Is this making sense?
I agree.. I'm in a covers band and an originals band.. In the originals band my main job appears to make sure that not every song sounds the same :-)
8. Ham and cheese ...
9. Dingwall... Or Lakland.. My Dingwall Z3 is a thing of wonder...
10. Hi, Why are you selling? What does the SUbway not do for you?
11. Huge war on talkbass about these :-) which one are you looking at - the tube preamp one (GB streamliner clone apparently) or the ss one ?
12.
But they are pretty meaningless figures to the layman. 105 db at 1 watt at 1 mtr????? So assuming I have a 100 watt amp I will be pushing 105 db in my bedroom using next to nothing of the amps power, less than 1 on the volume control. Crank it up to half way and the windows w ll blow out??? Possibly even the walls.
Not really.,.You 're aware that things are quieter the further away they are.. So 1m is a good standardised distance.. And it's pretty easy to calculate what the SPL would be a 10/50/100w. Basically everytime you double the power you add 3dB .. So your 100W amp will do about 125 dB at 1m. It will do very small amounts of dB at 1 km ..
13.
I feel it would make things much easier if cabinet manufacturers would include sensitivity ratings so we had a starting point regarding how much volume any given cabinet and speaker configuration would produce. Power handling is nice to know but If its a really sensitive cab you would know you could get good volume results with a lower wattage amp. Powered cabs have DB ratings on them but surely thats a different thing as they also include the power amp?
I think most cab makers give an SPL @ 1watt @ 1m figure. It would be nice if they gave this to us with the source frequency or type of noise (pink/white) ... For instance my Tecamp 810 has a sensitivity of 105db/1w\1m but it appears to be pretty much identical to my Super12T with 102db/1w/1m. Theoretically the S12 should need twice as much power to sound the same as the 810, but it doesn't
14. Me too..
15. Same for neutrik speakon connectors as well. My Rh750 can do both jack and speakons from its combo connector.
16.
I've been experimenting at home with various effects on my Zoom B3 but have never felt confident enough to gig it (plenty to go wrong anyway). My idea was to use it to find FX I liked and then get individual stomp boxes. Then I finally got my Trace Elliot (bought from another Bass Chat member) to band practice and the difference over my Ampeg was immense. The guitarist even said he was pleased to be able to hear me finally (I may have made that up, it sounds so unlikely). Anyway I'm not going to bother with effects. No one notices them anyway. The rest of the band and anyone listening at gigs think the bass just goes thud-thud-thud.
I think you're selling yourself short. Your core tone should, of course, come from your fingers --> bass ----> amp ------> cab, but certainly for the stuff I play a good quality chorus (EBS) , compressor (TCE) and distortion pedal (Cog) is needed.. Good quality true bypass pedals are a revelation...
17.
To me that's a very small and insignificant part of being in a band. But, like we say, were all different Blue
Irony fail :-)
18. There's a guy on the Facebook barefaced group with a compact and 250 reidmar . From what he says the combo you're suggesting will blow your head off . With good tone :-)
19. Never done it. Never seen or had the need.
20. This might be of interest.. I lost the sight in my right eye as a child and had to learn to shoot left handed. Holding a gun right handed feels entirely wrong now. However l/h firearms are more expensive and rarer (stocks with cheek piece, bolts) let alone semiautos that spit brass into your face .. I feel for you guys..
21.
I did a google of the rcf m18, seemed very good indeed. But a little above our budget. That's good to hear, thankfully we have a tech savvy drummer (who'd have thought, eh?) So the software shouldn't be a problem. Are the inputs limiting? Should we raise the budget and look into the 16?
https://www.mercury-av.com/sales/RCF-M18-Digital-Mixer-1.html?gclid=CjwKEAiA6rrBBRDsrLGM4uTPkWASJADnWZQ4qss_S7n0PRR9OwZgZHN64zs25yp-PvmYAyE05dpERhoCOPLw_wcB Actually cheaper than the ui16..
22. Nice - Spector ----> Warwick --------> GMR :-) Nice Bass - Great price.. IS this passive or active? If active, JOhn East or the other one?
23. It is indeed a bargain... Lovely bass..
24. I was looking at these as well. The various forums seem to suggest they're prone to locking up.. I'm probably going to go for an RCM M18..
25.
Any suggestions for where to get speakers re-coned?
http://www.bluearan.co.uk/recone/
